NY0085-86E Bracelet $189 Delivered

NY0085-19E Rubber $189 Delivered

Cracking prices for ISO-certified Citizen Promaster automatic divers. I have the Pepsi version, and despite having 8203 printed on the dial, I got an 8204 which adds hacking, a bit more reserve, and a bit less accuracy, although mine runs at +3 sec / day. YMMV on these, Starbuy still list the movement as 8203 in the specs.

The Citizen Promaster NY00x series has a lineage back to the NY004 and its reputation for over performing WR, and tough and reliable operation.

Bracelet is awful through and through, but on the plus side it does have a diver's extension.

Despite the case diameter of 42mm, these wear small(er).

Specs

  • Case Diameter: 42mm
  • Case Thickness: 12mm
  • Promaster - Automatic
  • Uni-directional Elapsed Time Bezel
  • Luminous Hands and Markers
  • Day function
  • Date function

very good watch from a very good seller!.. I have the pepsi edition one and love it

    • Same here, watch runs a little fast ie. 1 minute a week but still highly recommend at this price

  • +1

I bought the Pepsi version for $199 in Dec. Good price but certainly not the Bargain Bargain.

    • Haha high standards for a watch bargain. What do you say is a bargain bargain then?

The watch specials posted on ozbargain making me broke!

      • +1

It's about what you pay for it shipped from the cheapest dodgy OS suppliers so not such a bargain but much better after sale support and a warranty that probs works

        • I think that's worth it over the cheapest dodgy OS suppliers right?

  • I'd be all over the rubber one if it didn't have those depth measurements on the band.

    • That fugly strap is part of the charm! 😉

But yes, it's been naff for a while.

    • Most of us would be changing the band anyway

      • +2

cheaper to get a rubber strap than to buy a stainless factory bracelet ….I always go stainless and swap out.

        • Which rubber strap do you buy?

  • +2

Great price, and you may even end up with one of the new build ones with a hacking movement! Mines 12+ months old (non-hacking moevment) and been an absolute strap monster.

    • +1

Yes, noted in OP. I have the Pepsi, 8203 on dial, 8204 inside 😊

    • The website lists 8204 for the Pepsi and 8203 for this coke? Maybe this coke doesn't use the newer movement?

Another poster mentioned their coke got shipped with 8204 movement though.

  • Any recommendations for bracelets? The end links on the stock bracelet are hollow 🥲

    • And the links are folded, hideous all around.

    • I run a Strapcode (Militat) QR Hexad III on it some days….and yes I know it is not a cheap bracelet but it is very nicely made

      • Just searched for this one, does it have straight end links?

    • +2
      • Thanks, grabbed one for this coke too..

      • Got a pic? I've got the same strap, except black with red stitching. Nice strap, but I don't love the colour.

Blue one could be a goer though.

appreciate the abundance of luminescence on the face design - looks great imo

But who's looking after the Saab factory?

  • -1

id prefer to buy a homage watch, if i was a diver or swimmer id definitely get this over a homage tho for a piece of mind on reliability in water. but since i only wear watches as a fashion statement and i like the look of more expensive watches, i think homage watches do a better job for me, pagani design for example uses Japanese movements, stainless steel construction and bracelet and sapphire crystal, and a very decent finish for the price which usually goes for 100aud to 150 aud depending on model.

    • +1

Reminds me of my dad's mate who has collected every single bucket list watch via homage watch brands. Hundreds of watches in display cases, average price under $100 each. Nothing wrong with it although not a common approach, you do you my friend.

I personally do the opposite and daily an older Seiko diver under all environments for the past 16 years. Ideally I will be at my funeral wearing this watch…

      • thats a little extreme having 100s, I have a 12 slot wooden watch box case that im slowly filling up, 3 to go, purchased over 3 year period, all pagani design watches rolex homages, very nice looking and decently built with good spacs. i wont go above 12 thats my limit.

    • You like Chinese knock-offs of actual watches? Show them off, kiss them dry, put them to bed but Do Not Get Them Wet, not even in the shower!

Definitely can buy and rely on this for diving, this will take you to 25m and beyond with no sweat.

Bought one this morning, here's Jodie's review of it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dnoLTXdQvKI

  • What makes this a diver's watch? Is it just the waterproof rating?

    • +15

      It only works under water

    • yep wr200 ….. which usually means screw down crown so you can have confidence of no leak at 30M…… vs desk diver which is wr100 and no screw down crown.

    • +1

Iso certified, 12 o'clock bezel lume, different colour on first part of bezel, different WR testing methodology, screw down crown, I think from memory…

EDIT: There's many more requirements, including thermal and physical shock, unidirectional bezel etc.

      https://thedivewatchblog.com/iso-6425-diving-watch-standards…

    • It's a real 200m rating because it's ISO rated. If it isn't ISO rated then it literally isn't recommended to take it diving - that's the official line.

some japanese watches are tested to JIS standard

however i doubt a $200 watch is tested by a 3rd party at all

be that as it may, if citizen says its 200, its 200 and really even more than that

        • They don't test every watch for certification, just one of each model that is forward by the company for certification. Kind of like crash testing a car - they don't crash test every car. I don't know of JIS certification for watches, if so isn't that similar to IP / IPX? For example, very basic waterproofness, 1m for 30mins? Nothing to do with a diving watch?

    • ISO Certification.

  • Noob question but is this light powered or needs a battery?

    • +6

I am also a noob but I believe "automatic" implies that it's self winding (from wrist movement) and it can also be manually wound. So it's mechanically powered by er clockwork.

      Google off?

      • +4

I hope you don't reply with

        Google off?

every time people ask you a question in real life.

        • -1

No of course. This was especially lazy. Couldn't even be bothered in reading the description where it says "automatic". Nothing to do with being a noob. A noob can ask maybe if these lose time or need one of those gadgets to shake them and keep them on time. A noob reads the description at least

    • it's automatic ….. I really like solar dive watches as very accurate and never have to change batteries which means don't have have to seal properly again, just once a month set the date but don't really use the date function just time…. auto is good as no battery to replace but not as accurate so you are unscrewing crown to set time if you haven't worn, or to get rid of the 1 minute per week, so for diving need to make sure the crown is greased ….. quartz battery, replace once every 3 years ……..

      my prefferences are
      1-solar
      2-quartz
      3-auto

But of course you need to like the look which overides 1,2 or 3 sometimes.

wish it was ecodrive at this price ….

      • -3

Bruh you need to replace batteries of solar watches.

        • +1

have solar watch has been going for over 20 years ….no new battery …. not sure if would still run on 6 mths on a charge but it hasn't sopped even if not worn for 3 mths ….. this isn't a battery as you have in phone or torch ….. we have some IoT devices with 25 year batteries, even your road toll thing has 10 year life on single charge ….a lot of things have to do with drain cycles also.

        • Yeah, ever 15-25 years they need a new battery.

          • @macrocephalic: auto have recommended service intervals …..or the time keeping deteriorates …..

            • @garage sale: Yeah, I was just pointing out the absurdity of saying they need new batteries when 98% of them will die from other causes or get lost before the battery dies.

          • @macrocephalic: No, not correct. The lifespan of the capacitor is wholly dependent on how the watch is charge-cycled.

      • They do have batteries, to store the converted light energy. They are rechargable. If they are left flat for long enough they will die. How long they last is a variable. They tend to last longer than normal batteries - although this really depends on the quality of the rechargable battery.

        • it’s more complex chemistry than the battery you buy at costco or you get as a lithium ion in your mobile phone ….. mine has been going over 20 years no issues ….as accurate as the day i bought it ….doubt an auto would run for 20 years and still be within seconds per month accuracy …….

      • my preference is a little different
        1 - auto
        2 - auto
        3 - auto

  • +1

Bought this bad boy at the last deal and love it. As others have mentioned, this model now ships with 8204 movement. I've find mine to be very accurate.

I rock these two bands and both look fantastic but the Hemsut is 10/10:

    Hemsut Canvas 20mm - Green

    Premium-Grade Fluorine 20mm - Black/Silver

    • this model now ships with 8204 movement.

      Good stuff. Thanks mate.

  • bought the one with stainless band …..$189 isn’t bad , will be curious how acccurate it is over over a month or if it’s weekly time adjust ……

    • I didn't think my 8204 Pepsi was terribly accurate until I read that autos that aren't charged enough can run fast. So, I wound and wound and wound and wound, set it to time, then checked for a week with an app, and bam! +3s/day which was a huge improvement.

      • 8204 accuracy will depend largely on what orientation it's held at while you are "calibrating" it

        • Yep, tried all kinds of orientations, but it was making sure it was fully wound what done it.

  • +1

As a man with quite hairy arms, that bracelet band was never going to be an option. It will be weird wearing a watch again after not wearing one for 15 years or so, but I have found I needed one a few times after getting back into spearfishing and my old budget Lorus would probably cost me nearly this to get a battery replacement and pressure test.

    • +1

Be carefull once you buy one you might buy another, and another.

      • True that!

    • It looks awesome on a NATO, I keep my blue dial one on a red white & blue for swimming - gets comments

  • Thanks bought one with the rubber band. Didn't need it.

  • Expired, hope you got one if you wanted one :)

  • The bracelet version still seems to be selling for $199, only $10 more. Rubber band version back at normal price.

  • anyone have pics with alternate bands etc?

I have the Promaster with the Blue Silicon and not a fan as it rips my hair. The band on my Bill Gates Casio does not.

    Thanks

  • Mine arrived today. Love it, a really great looking watch. Bit smaller in size but great on the wrist.
Currently running a nato on it.
Stock strap went straight in the bin.
