Just waiting for 50% cashback deal for Book Depository…

    • Most likely the code won't be able to stack with cashback unfortunately. It's not on the CR page as an allowed coupon.

If you're making a big enough order, I find the best value is to stack CR with the CommBank or Amex reward offers.

      • Different shop…

They used to be every month or so. The added bonus with Book Depository over Booktopia is free shipping on lower value items.

        • But how do they compare for prices

          • +1

@King Steuart: I find booktopia generally cheaper than book depository before shipping costs.

Booktopia also has faster shipping, usually 1-2 weeks faster than book depository (BD is usually shipped from the UK). Booktopia from Sydney.

@King Steuart: I generally use https://booko.com.au/ to compare prices and delivery fees.

AMEX holders may be able to combine with offer for spend $100+, get $15 back (check your account; not sure if this has been posted here).

    • Thanks for this. Grabbed the Lord of the Rings 4 book hardcover set

Bloody Amazon, I went to compare 4 books and literally all of them are $1-2 cheaper there.. they really are good at trying to price everyone out.

If its a hardback maybe go with BT instead. Amazon almost always damages hardbacks I order from them.

      • That's not a bad thing if you complain that the item was damaged you can chat about it to an agent and they may give you a refund and voila! you get a free book.

        • Yeah, but you can only do that so many times before they'll flag your account.

I'd prefer just getting it in good condition in the first place. Plus sometimes with more limited items you can have issues getting another one if your order is damaged.

          • @HolyFosh: I mean its their mistake. Not like you are lying. You just tell them they (profanity) up.

            • @DrScavenger: That’s true, but what HF said is also true. Even if it’s their fault if you complain enough they just ban you anyway. You may be legitimately entitled, but they can still tell you to go away. Seen it before

    • Yup, either price them out, or Amazon buy them outright (see: Book Depository) and - just like that - price competition disappears.

Australian's believe that competition lowers prices still after every privatisation effort failing to do this.

        • +1

It's still correct to say that competition between multiple private entities usually lowers prices.

  • Yea, this seems about right. I only spent $8 on shipping on Friday for a textbook I needed :(

This code is not on either Cashrewards nor Shopback, so if we take the Free Shipping = No cashback?! :( Is this correct?

Booktopia have always been really good for me. I choose then over Amazon any day. The small guys need to survive.

    • Booktopia aren't a "small guy". Booktopia offers Qantas points as an incentive to purchase! The 'small guys' are your local bookshop that doesn't have an online presence, let alone one connected to any points scheme.

      • +1

True you're right, I was thinking small in comparison to Amazon. Your local brick and mortar stores are the real ones struggling.

I spend one time each year to buy books from Booktopia, and each time I spent >= $350
Normally Booktopia don't have free shipping, but most of other books website have free shipping if we buy over an amount.
So after each time of spending >= $350, I sent an email to support and ask them to refund the shipping fee as I bought a lot from them. And it was always successful.
