  • subpar card

    • I agree

it does match the price, 3070 card may add another $500

      • Is there a good one with the 3060 that's not the L5/pro?

      • +8

This laptop is for people who want to game, but don't want to enjoy it.

        • +5

Hmm, I know this is the lowest of the 30 series, but the 3050 is still good enough for most people.

From what I can see, it seems to be equivalent to the 1660Ti Max-Q in performance, which as of a year or two ago, would have been quite an excellent card to game on using a laptop.

The 1660Ti Max-Q is the card I have in my own laptop, and I find it more than sufficient for my games, as it's able to push 144Hz 1440P on a lot of games I play (when overclocked)

Not really this is perfect for the chassis, price and use case.

      • +2

yes really good price considering jbhifi is selling this for $2599

    • +3

Anyone serious about gaming isn’t buying a laptop.

  • +1

AMD really need USB4/TB. eGPUs is a crucial component for expanding performance/connectivity on thin laptops/ultrabooks.

    • +1

USB 4/TB 3 is available on AMD Ryzen 6000 based laptops. If you want such a feature, the 2022 version of the Asus G14 with the Ryzen 6900HS seems to blow away the competition in terms of performance per watt, have great battery life, and with a Radeon dGPU in between a 3060TI and 3070. The Ryzen 6000's iGPU is no slouch either based on reviews that have come out in recent days. If laptops like this are coming out it in future based on AMD 6000 APUs, it would make eGPU cumbersome and irrelevant if you want portability and battery life whilst gaming.

      • cant wait then, im wanting a 2 in 1 where i can use my razer core x. like the flow x13/z13 in amd 6000 platform.

    • I believe the 6000 series laptops will have USB4/TB support.

Shellshocked beat me to it 🙂

  • I assume the refresh rate is 90Hz, but it's not really specified anywhere in Acer's info.

    • I think so too

    • This is an Asus not an Acer

I looked up the correct model, I've just made a error in the post. Relax.

          You just got corrected, relax.

@FabMan: I got negged for the comment, and you're kinda proving my point with this follow up.

            • -1

@jasswolf: I didn't neg you though, still haven't, so relax.

    • tbh I can't see any info about refresh rates on Asus website

  • Why laptop manufacturers still get away with not plopping a terabyte of storage in reasonably expensive machines really gets my goat. Is it the same logic as to why 720p screens were dominant for so long?

    • +2

720p webcams, let's talk about that

every time I have to take a video call on a laptop, I feel like it's a call from 2005 or so

I think the deals on the Lenovo Slim Pro were better.

    • Link?

The Yoga has a 2k,90hz, OLED screen, but it's not on sale at the moment and neither is the Carbon version with the AMD CPU.

        • i think the price right now is already damn good

        • idk if its a straight better deal though, the slim does get 2k90hz vs 1080p but everything else is better here though? You get a proper dGPU-the mx450 is only marginally better than AMD's igpu, you also get a full powered, unlocked 5900HX processor rather than a 35w HS cpu.

I reckon the slim would be more popular with people that wanted a good screen in a compact form factor, but this aint too shabby for a beastly amount of performance in a relative thin chasis with a bright OLED display.

  • Correction: 5900HX and not 5900H

RTX 3050 isn't bad at all, I got a 900$ laptop with 5600H and RTX 3050. (I added more RAM and SSD)
Pretty good with all the games, amazing performance and battery. I didn't test the GPU for productivity.

This one has way better CPU and way better display. Therefore, this is a great deal.

    • +1

so why don't you upvote it? ;)

      • +1

        Done! Haha

    • i want a 900 laptop with 5600h and rtx 3050… where? is it acer?

      • Got it last year - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/635777

        899 for the laptop, 69$ for the 8GB 3200MHz RAM and 179$ for 1TB Samsung 980 NVMe.
And a 10$ NVMe mounting bracket from AliExpress.

Display was bad with windows 10. However, after upgrading to Windows 11, Boom! GOOD display.

If you can wait, I will say wait till July-Aug for the AMD 6000 series chips in laptops.

  • Are there any good full metal body gaming laptops.
I've bought 2k+ plastic body ones and they fall apart after 4-5 years of use esp at the cover lid hinges, cracking around air vents and the backlid screw holders disintegrate. It's just poor value for money. Tried HP and MSI both had similar issues.
Never had anything remotely the same happen with apple.

    • Lenovo Legion 7 16'

  • Is this available from a real outlet?

  • I picked up one from Caringbah yesterday. Super happy with the performance. I am a casual game player and RTX 3050 was more than enough than what I needed. OLED screen and build quality are just amazing. I still think Lenovo slim 7 is packed with better features and build quality but this one has a more powerful CPU and a GPU. Slim 7 has MX450 and most of them have delivery date of 8 weeks.
