  • Wonder how these compare to yeelight aurora strips? My yeelight strip can be quite flaky with the connection and some colours look a bit off. Anyone have any experience with these?

    • I bought this exact set a couple weeks back to work as backlight/bias lighting on my 65" TV. It's easy to setup and sticks very nicely and for the price it's a great 'starter' kit.

Doesn't really do all the shades of colours that well (I don't have any other brands to compare to but reviews of nanoleaf & Phillips Hue say they are much better), but if you just want vibrant colours like a party light then it's fine, especially for the price (no hub required either, works with my HomeKit setup).
Also it really can't do 'cool' white light at all (which is the primary requirement for a LED TV bias lighting)… the best I got it to was maybe 4000K (just by eyeballing it against a light bulb).

      • Thanks for sharing your experience, sorry to hear it wasn’t great for your use case. I was thinking of running this along a curtain pelmet (wooden box above curtains) and reflect off the ceiling for ambient lighting and controlling mostly HomeKit and Home Assistant. I found it hard to find many reviews of this model, and had a couple of questions if you have a chance?

How long is the power cord (approx)? Have you had any wifi/HomeKit connectivity issues? Does it support HomeKit Adaptive Lighting?

        • +1

power cord is not that long maybe a metre and a bit, but from memory (it's behind a TV cabinet so I can't see it/can't be bothered pulling it out again) it is one of those small circular 5/10/12V type connectors to the light controller so you could probably extend if needed.

It's near my router so no wifi issues. Does not work with adaptive lighting - if you want adaptive lighting then it's Nanoleaf (and maybe Hue I think).

  • Is there an accessory that I can buy if I cut the strip into half and then use it somewhere else?

Also can I hardwire it to a light switch? Ta

    • The controllers are the expensive part, and no don’t hardwire it to mains power…

      • Any smart led light strips can be hardwired and you can recommend ? Ta

        • No.
