Perfect timing for me as I got 2 Hozelocks that failed on me recently. Both under 2.5 years old, lucky bought I from Bunnos and they will honour the 5 year warranty and refund me the purchase price.

Anyone know if Hoselink retractable reel will last Adelaide hot summer sun? I believe the Hozelocks failed as they were out in the sun

    • Try filling a bucket out of both taps without the hose connected and see how long it takes to fill.

My old place the back tape was terrible compared to the front, had nothing to do with the hose, was all the plumbing in the house must of been a very long line to the back tap.

Either way the hi flow will help, that's its purpose to help if you have less pressure, even if you don't it's still the best option, it's what i'm getting.

      • At the time if I remember correctly I thought they said choosing the hi flow could be detrimental if you don't need it but I went that route thinking surely it couldn't be worse off.

Next time, won't be needing to hose the gardens here for awhile in Brisbane, I will unreel it fully before using and also try the bucket timing separately.

  • Dumb question, but do these mount ok to brick veneer? I'm a renter and would hate to f the wall but really need another decent hose.

    • You are a good tenant, paying that much for hosereel kit to be fixed in. But the answer is its good for BV wall. but obviously if you move out and take reel with you, then end up with holes in the brick!

      • +2

Gonna be here for a few years so not a huge investment. That said, now that I look, the pole mount might be a good option too.

    • Maybe attach to a pole instead? They sell those.

    • +2

Drill holes in the mortar, instead.
It’ll hold just fine, and you can patch the mortar easy & invisible. No damage per se.

      • +1

I personally hate this method of bolts in mortar as they always turn to shit but maybe if it's a rental it could be an option.

        • +1

They’re not equal, but better technique & fasteners can result in a perfectly-fine job. Many people go ape on the drill, and blow the hole out, mortar everywhere.

    • If you are going to take it when you leave I'd just put the bolts back in and leave them or grind the heads off.

I also suggest replacing your garden tap with one of these
    https://www.bunnings.com.au/enduraseal-15mm-female-dual-outl…

Makes it so much easier to leave the reel connected to the back tap and use the front one to wash your hands or fill a watering can. Plus no pressure loss from crappy Y adaptors.

    • Thanks, mate. Definitely need this.

    • Good tap and easier to open/close, may be need someone handy with the tools.. I think I would need the male option for my setup ($1 cheaper)

    • Ooh…I like this!

  • 20 vs 30m; so $50 for 10m of extra hose and slightly bigger case.
I paid $20 (20m) and $39 (30m) for cheapo bunnings ones. the $39 one has been in full sun for 3yrs and has exploded a couple of times with pressure and sun heat, the $20 feels real cheap, pun intended, but undercover and also hasn't given any issues for 2 years. Both Aqua Systems but clearly different OEMs.

  • Bought 3… 1 each hopefully it will last me decades to come!

  • Better to get 25m high flow for same price as 30m regular? Dont think I have water pressure issues.

    • Yes, get the high flow.

      From their FAQ:

"It has up to a 25% increase in water flow in comparison to our standard models and would be recommended for use on water tanks/bore pressure. Or even on average - low mains pressure."

  • I have two of these. They are solid, but the fittings are massive. To shorten the lead hose, I had to put the fittings in boiling water to pull off and reattach, which is perhaps not extremely safe. It also takes a fair bit of strength to unroll them.

      Do you weigh 40kg?

      • 6ft, 77kg. I don't reckon a person small of stature would have an easy time.

        • +1

Maybe but you just need to lift more if you're battling with a hose reel!

          • @7hours 44min ago: I exercise and am very fit. I am just saying this because I don't think elderly people such as my mother-in-law would be able to use this with ease.

  • +1

Thanks OP, I grabbed a Charcoal 25m Hi-Flow - I should be able to wash my car at home now.

  • +1

bought a charcoal high flow 25m a few months back. my experience hasn't been great. It works, but i've spent so much time just standing on my lawn in the hot sun trying to retract the hose fully because it always seems to get stuck - it's never once just retract completely in one go. Also high flow feels anything but, it feels weaker than a simple hose attached to a regular holman head from bunnings.

    • Have you looked at returning?
I had the same with a hozelock. Was unhappy, and planned on returning it. On possibly the 3-4 use, I have it a bit more oomph. SNAP. broke something deep inside, and ended-up with a cheap crap hose, threw the rest out :-/

      • honestly - it works just not as well as i hoped for this price point and all that marketing jazz. it's already bolted to the wall and it's an incredibly bulky item, so haven't thought to return it.

        • +1

That is the problem with these items not sold at physical stores, It gets difficult and costly to send back to them for minor issues! as well as getting locked in their eco system for fittings, that is why I went with Gardenia.

        • ignore…..question is below.

Just another thought, do you de-pressurise the hose before retracting it? (i.e. turn off and squirt the hose to remove the pressure).

    • That's kind of a deal breaker at this price point

    • +4

Do you make sure to turn the tap off then release all water in the line?

      • -3

i've always left the main tap on for convenience - this shouldnt have to be an exercise just so it can wind up properly?

        • +4

It's in the manual that you need to release pressure. I was having the same issue, haven't since doing this.

          • @Hinee:

It's in the manual that you need to release pressure.

            💯💯💯

Once the pressure is released from the line, you will find that your O-rings don't fly off when you disconnect accessories.

  • Get a cover (or two) and spare parts like the end connector with shut off lever (very handy). Extra end connections as they do wear out. Pack of the black O-rings.

    • +1

      Pack of the black O-rings.

They give you 3 spares in the box.

  • Not tried HoseLink, but every retractable hose I've had that's been out in the sun has had the plastic start to disintegrate after 6-7 years and the colour bleached out, are these more likely to last?

    • +1

I've had for 6-7 years in sun for half the day, colour is only slightly bleached and plastic hasn't disintegrated. it still works the same only thing is the spray gun sometimes does not catch the stopper so have to use the other mechanism to stop water until the gun works again.

      • +1

only thing is the spray gun sometimes does not catch the stopper so have to use the other mechanism to stop water until the gun works again.

Hoselink also provide the lubricant that you should use when servicing your spray gun.

  • Hello everyone,

Do I need a seperate accessory to connect this to a pressure washer such as Karcher or Gerni ? Thank you in advance.

      • Hey thank you

      • Probably better to buy another tap connector and leave that on the pressure washer.
But get a click-on adaptor as well.

    • I would suggest use this connection instead.

      https://www.hoselink.com.au/products/universal-tap-connector…

Remove the tap connection on the pressure washer and screw this one on. The click-on adaptor will work, but feels flimsy…..I did use my click-on initially but it felt delicate and I could feel it moving and bending as I moved the pressure washer unit around and untangling hoses and what not.

      • Thanks. Does this go on the pressure washer itself?

        • Yes. Screw it onto the thread after you've unscrewed the click-on hose part.

Mine is a ryobi one though so yours may differ and assume you can remove it.

If you need photos or anything let me know.

  • How do these compare to the German made Gardenia ones?

    • I have the Gardenia, very good quality, with standard fitting accessories if need to add/replace (Hoselink has its own fitting type), only weak part of Gardenia is nozzle type. I like the Hoselink nozzle with different spray options and ability to close flow with a nob from nozzle. Gardenia hose has kink rating 10/10 so presume is better quality than Hoselink. So overall very similar quality, but with the 15% off offer would be cheaper than Gardenia. Gardenia has 5 ys warranty, Hoselink has 2 years

      • Thanks mate. I've noticed the new Gardenia are no longer made in Germany which is disappointing.

  • These are quality. I bought cheap Bunnings ones at first, they lasted a year before going to landfill. My hoselink ones have lasted years, they still look as good as new.

My opinion, they are well worth the money.

  • Try wrap some shade cloth over it during summer. It shouldn’t affect use.

  • I made a mistake when I ordered in the last deal. Contacted Hoselink customer service and they helped me out in a big way. Very kind and generous. Happy with my hoses now.

  • Bought one to try it. I wasted $$ on an Ebay one a few years ago. Barely retracts after a few years. Have an Aldi one that is even worse.
We have some old retractable reels at a holiday house that are quite weathered and at least 4 years plus in age which work brilliantly, but I cant see any label/brand on them

  • I'll give this one a go then!

  • Any chance of extending the hose? We have a huge backyard and some plants are way out towards the boundary fence. Would love to explore a hose which could possibly be extended out somehow :(

    • +1

You can with the hose joiner set but the extension you add won’t be retractable.

      • +1

Can you add a link to an example one? I need a hose to drop down off the second floor balcony and attach to a hose around the corner

  • +1

Bought 4x hoses with a 5% discount about a fortnight ago and installed them last weekend to water some new plants we got in..

Been raining ever since + this superior discount.. Lol.

  • I need a hose that can reach the second floor (ground, first, second) so I can wash my massive balcony that doesn't have its own tap. The tap is slightly around the corner, about 15m.
Do you think this would suffice?
I csnt do a bucket and broom situation anymore. Killing my pregnant back!

    • and how would you pass the hose from ground floor to first and second? That might be bigger task than mopping with a bucket! May be use cheap blower then just mop if required.

  • Just to add - not to take anything away from Hoselink as their products are great.

I bought 2 of these for my house in Adelaide in 2017 and they are still going strong, I do not tug on it like some people though
    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/132507177318?hash=item1eda0b1166…
Only complaint is the strength of the wall bracket - still holding but could be better.

    • The locking pin for wall bracket looks plastic not metal?

      • My model is slightly different - so I cannot be certain if this is an improvement or not. It looks like metal to me though

  • +1

I like the idea of retractable but they all look super bulky.

  • purchased 2x 20m :)

  • Bought 5 of these babies for work in a commercial hatchery. All 5 still working 4 years later albeit with some minor issues i.e last bit does not automatically retract, need a tug to reel it all the way in.

  • I did it. Purchased 20m and 25m hi-flow.

Hope it holds up to OzB hype!!

  • Bought one because I can padlock it in place :)

  • How about Pope 30m hose reel compare to this one?
    Cost $199 i guess.
    Anyone have any idea??

    • I’d go with the Hoselink for an extra $16.

  • 20% off on their eBay store brings it down to $204

    Code: TSHG20

  • I just got mine installed on the weekend, it looks great but a few issues.

    1) the hose retraction is terrible, wouldn't full go back in , had to fully unravel it multiple times and eventually it worked. But now it's hit and miss if it goes all the way back in with multiple tries.
    2) the side plastic gets scratched by the brick wall when it swivels to far, which it does as nothing is stopping it.
    3) it's impossible to unravel or retract at an angle which mean you have to unravel it before using it around a corner so to speak.

  • Just bought this. 30m Retractable Hose Reel Charcoal is still discounted to $216.75 with free delivery, add the voucher TAKE5OFF and it drops further to $205.92.

    • add the voucher TAKE5OFF and it drops further to $205.92.

Thanks for the heads up. Very strange that the TAKE5OFF code did not work last month during their March 15% off sale, nor did the latest welcome code on a brand new account.
