Send Your Name to The Moon on Artemis I @ NASA

1371

Mars is probably over populated now so why not send your name to somewhere a bit closer to home?

Artemis I will be the first uncrewed flight test of the Space Launch System rocket and the Orion spacecraft. The flight paves the way toward landing the first woman and the first person of color on the Moon!

Add your name here to have it included on a flash drive that will fly aboard Artemis I.

Mars is probably over populated now so why not send your name to somewhere a bit closer to home?

    Why not to Uranus?

    • +16

      It's full of gas

    • +1

      which hopefully is unpopulated…
hang on! maybe I shouldn't say that

    • Good idea, I heard it’s extremely large

    • +3

      it's covered in Klingons.

    • +2

Because there is a naming dispute going on at the moment. Scientists are sick of the joke so they want it changed to urectum.

    • Crowded. Ehm ..

    • Already been to Uranus and can't say I want to delve there again

      username doesn't check out

Could have submitted your name probably twice, if not more, with the characters used in your comment.

Artemis Is a crap rocket, late and over budget. It’s an old school fly once and destroy rocket.

They should just give the whole job to SpaceX and save a couple of billion a launch.

    • +6

Finally, we know production costs for SLS and Orion, and they’re wild

Martin broke down the costs per flight, which will apply to at least the first four launches of the Artemis program: $2.2 billion to build a single SLS rocket, $568 million for ground systems, $1 billion for an Orion spacecraft, and $300 million to the European Space Agency for Orion's Service Module. NASA, Martin said, had checked and confirmed these figures.

      • +5

Would they be recycling rubber for use in seals and stuffs? Anything to help it achieve carbon neutrality…. shouldn't take much should it for such a worth mission!

      • Burrrrr goes the printer!

    • There's a fairly interesting read behind the history of the SLS program https://www.thecgo.org/benchmark/the-space-launch-system-is-… that might explain it's many flaws.

Vaporware Elon hasn't delivered time and time again.

      • +14

He sends more rockets to orbit per year than most countries have in total. SpaceX cost per launch is in the tens of millions, Boeing are charging NASA billions. His timelines are optimistic garbage, but the reason he is the richest person in the world is not because he is selling vaporware.

        • +4

          Hyperloop

          • -3

@ubcool: Hyperloop was a design exercise by SpaceX with other companies working on the implementation.

Come on mate… the guy has literally changed the course of humanity’s future. And so what, one of his ideas is a dud.

Do you seriously expect people to be 1,000% perfect? You won’t tolerate anyone that makes mistakes, or does something that doesn’t work out?

That’s how we get politicians with no personality and no courage or conviction. Because we judge other people by ridiculous standards that we ourselves can’t live up to.

        • +2

the guy has literally changed the course of humanity’s future. And so what, one of his ideas is a dud.

          What, selling luxury cars? Wrong.

None of his projects were ever his original ideas.

Do you seriously expect people to be 1,000% perfect?

Had to hyperbolise that didn't you?

False promise Elon lies even about the capacity increases of his own batteries.

          • @Techie4066:

None of his projects were ever his ideas.

And yet he is a billionaire.

Sending people and stuff into space is significantly cheaper thanks to him. Not cheap enough for joe blow to get into space but baby steps i guess.

            • +2

@xoom: And there's quite a bit more to his lies than his space projects isn't there.

              • @Techie4066: I dont doubt that there are lies being sold onto people by these megarich.

In saying that we still have to acknowledge some of the good they do though.

                • +2

@xoom: I can agree with that. I just don't agree with the entrepreneurial narrative surrounding Elon and bought by a huge group of fans buying into the hype.

          • @Techie4066: And yet he has still done a lot to change society as we know it compared to the vast majority of other people out there.

            • +1

@lonewolf: He is not self-made. And his core business is founded upon the exploitation of those working the rare earth metal mines, continuing the traditions of his family's former practices in South Africa.

Zip2 was possible because of external investment. Tesla was purchased.

              • +1

@Techie4066: You are missing the point. It doesnt matter if he is self-made or anything. At the end of the day he has done more for society than a lot of other people out there. Whether its pushing EVs into normal usage / public domain or SpaceX and bringing realities of travelling into space more popular / cheaper etc than it was in the past. Both are massive changes in society. There arent many other people right now that has brought about such sweeping changes and pushing tech forward. Fact of the matter is for a long time our tech in certain areas were stagnating. not because they didnt exist, but because they werent being pushed forward / given awareness and made available.

                • +3

@lonewolf: He rode the hype train then claimed he built the train.

Don't talk bad about his cars or subs though, or you're a paedophile.

And if you work for Telsa, don't try to unionise or you'll get the sack.

                  • +1

@NobalaKoba: Doesnt matter, he still brought 2 massive changes to society that everyone else talked about but did not achieve.

        • Virtual81 may have been referring to the moon having good deals, or NASA.

    1. Put personal details on USB key sent to the moon
    2. Start receiving emails, "Hello kind sir, I am Klatu, a noble lunar prince, and I request your assistance to move $100M…"
    • +3

Or Space Force has a warrant for your arrest…….

      • "We have been trying to reach you about your package from Glarblefarc IX"…

        • It would be amusing tacking your amazon packages then. The galaxies it will traverse through to get to you.

The warp drive better be invented by then if they want the same day delivery promise.

  • Came here to make a childish joke about Uranus, looks like others got to Uranus before me!
