Ecovacs Deebot Neo Robot Vacuum Cleaner $399 @ ALDI

230

I bought the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo 920 in the last Aldi Special Buy and I've found it does a great job.

I couldn't find any detailed reviews but according to CanStar this is an upgraded model to the Ozmo series.

Compared to my very old Roborock S5, I would say the software with xiaomi is somehow slightly better. Xiaomi got stuck less than Ecovacs overall but that said, ecovacs only got stuck maybe twice in three weeks. Pretty good, imo! I run them both every night on different floors in our home.

I find ecovacs complains about needing a sensor clean far more often than Roborock and if I don't get on it, that's when it will likely get stuck.

I don't use the mopping function in either. Find it therapeutic to do it by hand. I'm weird like that.

Ps, I tried to find this on ebay to see if I could get a price match and ebay plus coupon combo but Neo isn't listed on ebay.

  • Does this thing map, or just a guess and go gyro set up?

Map. See the top bulbous part is the laser.

Mapping is very good. You can also label the rooms, divide and merge, set up virtual boundaries.

  • Looks alright, wonder what you have to do/pay to expand it, where it says "Auto empty station compatible".

I'd probably pay ~$100 less for something like the Viomi V2 Pro

    • Guessing it's referring to the Ecovacs Auto Empty Station which has an RRP of $399

      • The auto empty is overpriced and badly designed. Hair ends up stuck between both intakes. Viomi is 90% of the vacuum. Although for hard wood mopping, the scrubbing attachment is great.

Every few weeks, my 950 will completely forget the map of my house. I once spent about an hour setting it up again, but when it returned to the dock, it restored the old broken map. By broken, I mean the entire map was askew, rotated left by about 10°.

  • map is very bad on ecovacs , it will create another layer of the map , you will continuously need to create new map likely once a fortnight

Originally I have this problem, the solution is just, turn of the robot vacum for 1 min and turn back on.

I know this sound stingi like most of it help desk, but in the case of ecovac it wok.

The problem with ecovac is on its auto mode, I never use that mode, I just choose all the room that I want to clean and I never have Map problem again.

I still love my Viomi S9 with the auto dumping stn! A real set and forget robot!
    It's worth the extra $100!

Wonder what stock will be like at stores? Are we expecting some stores to get one or two?

    • I got 13 units.

      • LOL so stupid

        • Keep in mind that filled a whole specials table, there wouldn't be room for anything else if there was more.

I had a meeting, but finished and got to Aldi at 9am, a Chinese couple took 3, an Indian pair took 4.
I came and there was still 6 left.

Mum and friends went to their respective stores, there was a generous amount.

      • I guess the days of special buys being low quantity are over. Used to be the case that stores would only have 1 or 2 of the big ticket items. I’ve noticed with other electronics Aldi tend to have a decent amount these days.

        • yeah, objectively, its cheap, but its not that great.
But there are some solid items - for example, their BBQ coolabah is one

  • From what I have noticed the Deebot Neo and N8 are the same, can anyone confirm this? I have been trying to find online reviews for the Neo but cant only N8 stuff was coming up.. When comparing the specs they are identical.

    • The Neo is marketed as being made for Australia exclusively I think.

But yeah it’s likely just a rebranded model, maybe with very minor improvements if anything. I doubt Ecovacs would develop an entirely new robot vac just for us.

Other comments say it’s just a rebranded N8.

    • by the time you are done, there will be no stock!

  • Is this the same as the N8?

  • I am very happy with my deebot 920 .. From what I can see it sucks even better… So must be good.

  • Hi OB,
Did anyone get a chance to pick a one from Aldi today.
I couldn’t find one in Wyndham Vale store and I was told delay for entire Victoria. Though not clear on date item will be available in store.

    • I looked in Tarneit and was told the same thing - turns out it was a lie, there’s some in stock according to the website they just didn’t bother stocking the stores out west.

      • That stock information on their website is wrong.. I also noticed they have updated the availability and visited the store despite there was nothing. Went to other store as well and the same thing.. asked the staff they had no idea why the website says they have stock.. absolute crap..

Yep. I bought one this morning before coming to work (inner Sydney). I'll let you know how it is once I've got home and had a play. But the specs look good. I was about to bite the bullet on an $800 Roborock S6 Vmax…so I thought (with the 60 day return policy) this was worth a go. The specs do look like the N8…which has great reviews.

    • Does Aldi return products that are used if they aren’t so good? (Ie don’t like it rather than actually faulty). Thanks :)

  • Does anyone know of any stock in WA? Or insider info of when stock might arrive

    • Stock in store today, bought one at morley just now, a couple more in stock

    1. This model is exactly same as N8 - Sold on official Ebay store for $430-460 (After applying discount coupons provided by Ecovacs)

    2. I am looking at N8 Pro (Includes True Detect 3D) - Much better Obstacle avoidance. Especially small cables etc - avoid getting wires entangled into the side brushes. Last best price was about $585-$599 (Currently around $799, available on GGC for $625

    3. T8 range is also good (Most features same as N8 Pro except Battery and Ozmo Pro Mopping) - Battery is 5200 mAh against 3200 on above 2 models. However the main feature to look out for is that you can attach optional accessory Ozmo Pro Mopping - This is vibration based mopping system - Much better results. This is about $50-70 on ebay.

Last best price for T8 was $599 at JB-Hifi

    • Thanks for suggesting T8.
I started researching robo vacuums yesterday and ended up crossing off n8/neo and n8 pro the list, because of the battery and suction power.
Viomi s9 has much better specs on paper.

Do you know how does T8 compare to viomi s9?

    • Where did you read that it’s the same or did you just compare spec sheets? I checked last week on Ecovacs’ website but it didn’t have much information on the vacuum.

I got the Roborock for my work, use it religiously with human footpath of about 1000 a week.
    Exceptional for what it is.

3 years later, i couldnt justify buying one for myself, i eventually did and got this one.
I believe, OP is right, the map is better in some aspect, but the truemapping is much better than the Roborock. It dodging things much more efficient.

However, i have a rug, with the water tank + mop pad it struggles to go over the rug, so it thinkts its a cord. Will do more testing
In terms of cleaning, its good, matches my Roborock 3 years ago.
Dust bin is smaller, but i empty it regularly anyways so it doesn't bother me.
I feel the components feel cheaper than the Roborock, but the roborock was twice the value.

Overall, i dont regret getting it, i wont buy almost twice the price for the Roborock at home.
In regards to the Viomi auto-dumping, i think the only thing why i didnt get it, is i like hiding the vacuum underneath the couch hahah

    • In regards to the Viomi auto-dumping

From what I saw on the Viomi threads, they don’t seem to be very reliable. People said they had to replace them and that they malfunctioned after a few months.

Ecovacs appears to be more reliable.

      • i vote both would be as bad!

        • What would you vote good?

          • +1

@maiuspala: i would get Roborocks one
Only because i know their stuff is better quality. And i use the Roborock for my work, and i swear by it.

    • what work u do? 🤔

  • Aldi Aspley in Brissy had 1 more before closing, slightly damaged box

  • I bought Roborock S7 for $863$ in eBay with mobileciti with discount code TSHG20.

Early reviews for this from people who were able to preview the unit appears to be quite positive. For this price it is probably a steal.

  • Has anyone seen any stock in Brisbane stores?

    • just check the stock checker.

      • That stock information on their website is wrong.. I also noticed they have updated the availability and visited the store despite there was nothing. Went to other store as well and the same thing.. asked the staff and they had no idea why the website says they have stock.. absolute crap..

If it helps anyone, Mt Gravatt East showed "stock available" and had 6 on the floor this morning as-at 11am (after I picked one up).
