          • @Ehty: Not sure, but my get says excluded as it is government.

I think I figured out the way to tell (but after getting the card and trying). If you end up getting reward points on the charge, then I believe it will also go towards your 6K. I think the difference here is that credit cards don't get the same profit % for the excluded items (although they make a lot on cash advances).

  • Thanks!

  • What a joke.

Applied in early Jan, received an email in a few days saying it’s been conditionally approved but without telling me what they needed.

Called them Mid Jan to ask the progress they told me it’s been approved then received a message saying the card will be send out in 5 days.

Waited a MONTH till 15th Feb I called them again because never received the card, waited 40 mins on the phone then they told me they needed further documents, excuse me?
Asked why I was told it’s been approved and I have received the approval message, and no one contacted me regarding the required docs, no direct answer no apology only saying Now We Need More Documents. Asked me to send docs to
[email protected] and it would take up to 10 days to response. I did straight away.

No message no email no card been received so I called again on 28th Feb they told me it’s been approved but they ARE NOT SURE if the card has been send out or not. Asked me to wait…

    Now 6th March, still nothing.

6 digital income, home owner with 1/3 loan left, perfect credit score, only one credit card (AMEX) on hand.

    • What’s the limit on the Amex? And what’s the limit on the one you applied?

      • +2

Only 5000 limit on AMEX and minimum limit on the application, but I don’t think these factors matter anyway in my case, what matters is their internal communication just hopeless.
Wish you guys have better experience.

        • -2

So you currently have 5k limit and applying for 15k more, that would indicate you have over $100k salary without any mortgages?

          • +1

@TomGum: I don't think issue due to Raymond's finance but more of WP's backend process stuff up somehow.

A few years back, when I applied for WP Black card, they told be go to branch for ID verification. I went there and met a lovely loan manager that ID me. After she was done, gave me her business card and told me to call her when I think of refinance.

A week later, didn't hear anything about my application, called them and got told I need to go branch for ID!! I was so piss because I need the card to travel soon, and told the guy to call my branch and ask for the loan mgr (gave them her name and title) about it. I heard he typed something over his computer then agreed with me that I had ID with them already. Card was sent out next day.

            • @timhn: That’s shocking to hear. Checked my mail box today after work still nothing I will call them tomorrow, if there is any issue I will just ask them to cancel it’s just fxxking waste of time. Can’t believe it’s been 2 months and the application has been “approved” twice but still nothing.

          • +1

@TomGum: That is def not the correct math. I recently applied to and approved for a 2nd 15K card, and make under 100K with a mortgage.

        • Update:
Called the Wstpac told me the card has been sent out but don’t know when was that.

While waiting I went to apply NAB signature https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/681936
On Sunday 6th March and got approved $15000 limit on Tuesday, without any verification action required.
Today received a message saying the card will be send out in 2 days.

I might end up having two cards but not bad.

          • @NoBargainNoLife: Can you check your westpac account for a digital card?

            • @eastmeetswests: Yes I can but I am not desperately in a hurry need to spend some money immediately, just a bit frustrated about the back and forth for such a simple issue.
P.S. finally received the card today.

  • Had this card before, was very profitable once hit spend, I think last year it was $4k spend though. I currently have the Westpac low rate card, $4k spend for $400 cash back, no annual fee.. once this one is done I'll sign up for this, seeings how I'll be eligible with the low rate card not being a 'rewards' card.

  • Can the annual fee be avoided by closing the card account before 1 year?

    • no, it gets charged at the start.

      • Thanks mate.

    • +2

Usually get charged on the first statement.

But you can ask if they can refund the prorated fee if you close account early. You just have to request them. Had done this once before.

  • I have looked at somany of these deals. I just can't make myself pull the trigger

  • I am an IT project manager and trying to apply, have tried all occupation categories but can't find anything related closest is data entry operator? anyone else face this or any suggestions, thanks

    • +1

I think the category I went with was under engineering, then computer or IT professional.
      [EDIT] Just checked, it was:
      Science/Engineering/Technology->Computing Professional

  • Also does anyone know if you do a balance transfer, can you use the card for other purchases without attracting interest etc on the transferred amount, or should you just wait till the balance is paid off?

  • If you were a secondary card holder on your spouse’s Altitude black card in the last 12 months would that make you ineligible? Spouse cancelled his account/card around 6 months ago. I tried calling Westpac but it’s a public holiday

    • You'll be fine. They don't consider secondary card holder as customer.

      • Thank you!

  • Got rejected :(

    • +1

Update — Called them and got approved.

  • I got a anz platinum rewards anz card. As this is a platinum card does this i am not eligible??
This is not a westpac card though?

    • +1

You’re eligible as long you haven’t held a Westpac rewards card in the last 12 months

    • This is westpac not ANZ so your fine, they're two different banks.

  • Has anyone gotten the points before and closed their account thereafteR? there's no minimum time to hold the card to avoid the bonus rewards being clawed back? So long as they've allocated it and you've used it for fee rebates for the $900 cash back, then clear your card to $0, you can close your account ?

    • I can't confirm, but that's the idea of the credit card churn. Personally, I'd wait at least another billing cycle beyond the last "fee rebate" you claim.

    • Yes absolutely.. I normally get the points, exchange for gift cards etc.. then within a week or so close the account. Never had to repay them back or anything?

  • I have about $7k to spend in April on annual family health insurance premiums alone … but I’ve held a Westpac altitude black card in the last 6 months.

    Any other alternatives to this?

    • +1

      Citibank for Qantas points?

  • Can you convert Altitude points to QFF points?

Also, is there any other way to check pricing of things in the Rewards program besides having an account with Westpac and signing in…?

    • +1

Can you convert Altitude points to QFF points?

      No.

Also, is there any other way to check pricing of things in the Rewards program besides having an account with Westpac and signing in…?

      No, not for all items.

The Altitude Rewards website only shows some of the items you can redeem through the Altitude Rewards program.

If you want to know how much a certain item (or items) is, you can always ask people to check (like me).

        Hi WookieMonster,

Thanks for the response, and for the offer to check! I wouldn't want to trouble you though. Hope you have an excellent day!

  • Does paying uni fee's ordinarily fall into eligible purchase territory?

    • +1

I'd say so.. just need to check the fine print where it says what's eligible and what's not.. usually government fees (rates, rego etc) aren't eligible, I'd say school fees are OK (unless Tafe possibly?)

  • +2

Thanks OP for sharing this. Just made the minimum spend and the 180k points landed the day after. Redeemed 185k points for $925 credit on the account.

    • +1

      Nice

Is that using the credit card fee rebates method?

      • +1

Correct. I had 7500 extra points from the $6k spend. A shame that 2500 will go to waste.

        • +1

so you don't have to wait for the next statement after making the minimum spend?

          • @impoze: No wait for the points. It showed up mid-statement cycle as a bulk 180k points in the account. Planning to settle the balance this weekend and close the account on Monday.

        • +1

See if you can give that 2500 points to a charity if they have that in the rewards scheme.

          • @timhn: Great idea. Doesn't look like that's an option on my cursory glance.

            • +1

@yojabbajabba: In the altitude rewards you can choose to “Pay with Points”
This allows you to pay for certain transactions with your remaining points
From memory 1,500 points = ~$5 or so

              • +3

@dorikin: Bloody brilliant! Managed to squeeze out even more payments, and get my points balance to <100.

        • Nice work, what was the process you followed to do that? Was it all in one go or multiple rebates?

          • +1

@Wombatt: When at the redeem points page I chose financial services -> Annual Fee rebate. I added to the cart 185k worth of ‘rebates’. It does mention on each item listing that you can only redeem fee rebates once per calendar year, so I stacked all of the rebates in one cart.

    Only 140K points now.
I applied early this month and am still waiting to find out if I've been approved. Basically kept asking me to verify my income and ask for more statements etc. Have been calling them each time I get a text/email saying they want to know more. Hoping it gets approved soon (or rejected - just tell me!).

    • Got approved on 29/3 now trying to meet spend requirement. I bet they'll give me 140K points even though it was 180K when I applied and got approved (?) - unsure when it changed to 140K but I should be eligible based on when I applied, not when I was approved? We'll see. Either way, 140K points should be nice.

      • In the same boat here. Hopefully they honour the initial 180k points offer.

  • Has anyone recieved their points after achieving minimum spend ? I still haven't gotten any points and it's been a month

    • Was your card blocked initially?
I just waited >12 weeks for my points after meeting minimum spend. I had to call 1300 887 820 and get it manually added since it wasn't going to happen automatically. The reason given was since mine was blocked in the first week due to me buying gift cards using the digital card.

Most people get the points the instant they meet minimum spend. Unfortunately if this doesn't happen automatically then tend to make you wait 12 weeks before they will do anything manually.

      • I wonder if this is my issue too, as I did buy a gift card with the digital card while I was waiting for the physical card to arrive. I'll wait the 12 weeks then give them another call. Thanks

  • Applied early Feb and approved within a few days. The card did not arrive in the following weeks, then I received a call to let me know I needed to go in store to verify my identify and for the teller to call the personal lending team when I'm there. I go in on a weekend but the back office is closed. So I end up having to make another trip to the bank on a weekday. My account is finally activated and I lost 3 weeks of my 120 days to meet the spending criteria.

Met the spending criteria on 29/3/2022. Has been cleared but still no bonus points. Called on Friday 1/4, the customer service rep verified I had met the criteria and terms and conditions, then said the points should arrive within 90 days of meeting the criteria. Still waiting on the bonus points…

  • Applied when it was 180k on offer, met the spend, but they have only added 140k. Call centre couldn’t explain why that had happened but now need to wait a week for them to figure it out.
Best to review how many points actually land in your account…

  • These guys are third rate idiots.

They asked for a closure letter pertaining to my ANZ CC, which I provided. But because it doesn't state the account # they wouldn't accept it, despite clearly stating the CC type I closed. My credit report also clearly shows I closed an ANZ CC.

  • +2

I got the bonus points a day after meeting the spend requirement.

    These transactions gave me points:

    • Health insurance
    • AfterPay
    • QBE, AAMI
    • AGL (via PayPal)
    • Post Billpay transactions (via PayPal)

I also paid a council rate bill but didn't receive any points.

    Onto the next card!

    • Congratulations! What will you be redeeming the points for?

      • +3

The best value I could find was:

        • 185k points on $925 worth of annual fee rebates
        • The remaining points on any transactions I could pay off using 'Pay with points'

I'm left with 590 points and I don't think I can do much with this.

  • according to chat I met minimum spend on 4th April but haven't got the points yet…
