$126 for a kettle? This is Ozbargain!

    • this will go well with my 13k couch

  • Does this kettle heat up water faster or more efficient than a $15 cordless kettle from K-Mart?

    • +9

$15? woah there high roller normally they are about $7 or so

      • Paid extra for the cool blue LED light.

From memory, the base model does not have a proper lid. Just a hole to pour water in. Difficult to check that it's clean or clean it.

        • Fool! If you can't see it, you don't need to clean it!

I like the base model as it has exposed coils, it's not only ever so slightly more efficient, but it's quieter, after a year or so, significantly quieter.

        • Just descale once every few months. Don't need to be able to see it to clean it.

        • base model does not have a proper lid

Wrong. Have the $7 "cordless" base model - has a hinged lid to give full access!

After over 5 years of daily use, recently needed to replace as switch sometimes failed to work. Pretty good value for $7!

There really isn't much technological difference in terms of effectiveness in heating for electrical devices.

    • I did an experiment and back in 2013 the most efficient way to heat a kettle was gas stove top in a covered pot.

Heating only what you need at a time unless you have a serious thermos like a zirojushi that can keep that 80c plus temp all day long

      • How did you measure "the most efficient way to heat a kettle" in your experiment??

Having designed scientific experiments, your use of the term efficient is so vague as to be useless.

          • Hugs * be happy
          • @MisterEd: Lol! Not saying much… Should have expected that from a talking horse 🐴

So, your answer is you measured efficiency in hugs & happiness.
I must be heating my water all wrong😉

Even when designing an experiment in Psychology, that would be an ill-defined measure.

Am off to boil some water!

          • @MisterEd: I am interested.

But, an experiment requires a stated means of measurement.
Many are possible with heating water.
Efficiency in what terms? (Energy consumed, time taken, ease of use, cost of equipment, etc)

Did you mean effective rather than efficient? Simply heating water on a stove is quite effective.
And cost effective in terms of equipment, as most already have a cooktop & cooking pot.

You gave no useful information when discussing your "experiment" into "the most efficient way to heat a kettle".

Claiming your result was the outcome of an experiment, makes your claim sound far more reliable than just stating it as your opinion!

Unfortunately, there are already so many false claims backed by so called "experiments"!! It gives properly designed research a bad name.

Have fun, but don't get into hot water😊

An ugly, smaller than average (1 vs 1.7L), lower power than average (1.3 vs 2.2kW) kettle for >$100?

    Nah.

    • +2

The smaller size does mean less wasted energy when someone fills up the entire kettle to boil water for a single cup of tea.

      But, yeah … nah.

      • Obviously with any kettle, fill to just above amount needed! Saves water & energy consumed.
But buying amuch dearer kettle which may not be large enough for occasional use doesn't make much sense.

        • Totally agree, but try explaining that to the kids, noting that they are just as likely to turn on the kettle without checking if it has water.

          • @mathew42: On holiday last week in rainy Noosa, used a shared kitchen. Many completely filled the kettle for 1 cup. They didn't care about any waste - like children, they don't pay the bill.
Then the next person emptied it & refilled as they wanted "fresh" hot water…

I wouldn't try explaining to strangers, but it can be a good learning activity for children (who may say they want to conserve & save the planet).

Luckily, even $7 Kmart kettles do turn off when there is no water. But could shorten the life of the element. Although, done that a few times - Kmart one lasted over 5 years.

  • This is for Americans? Electric kettle is not popular with them. They love to boil water in a pot. This one looks like a pot which might appeal to their taste.

We are too smart for its look and price.

  • +3

1380 watts? It'll take an eternity to boil water. Just get a Kmart cheapie!

  • +1

How is a $7 kettle from Kmart https://www.kmart.com.au/product/1.7l-cordless-kettle/153805 more powerful at 2200w?

  • +2

    Wow - so practical (not)
I love how the handle is right above the opening!
    1) Bonus high temperature cleansing of your thumb and finger when you remove the lid post boiling (to do a refill) - surely that would be super hot
    2) Bonus steam clean of your skin when you empty the boiled kettle and try to refill (cos steam coming out of the stupid opening)
    3) Bonus when you bang your knuckles against the tap because of stupid handle

Bet there isn't even a proper whistle like the proper stovetop kettles…

  • It had better wash the cups and put them away for that price

  • Who had to write the copy for that? The only word that doesn't apply to any other kettle in the world is 'playful', and I wouldn't pay an extra $100 for my kettle to be 'playful'

  • +1
  • Jeez - the Tuya compatible electric smart kettle at K-Mart is half the price at $59. Wow.

  • Cute but tiny.

  • Agree Kmart ftw

    • Agree… This smaller kettle is 18 times the price! And that's @45% off!
      How is this a bargain?

Basic kmart kettle lasted over 5 years of daily use! Just replaced it for $7.
