  • Good find. Cheap if you need a .com.au

  • Cheaper still for a .com only address $8 for 2 years

  • Nice find Scotty.

However I can't seem to register as a person. It's always asking me for an ABN, ACN or some other number.

    • Yes for .com.au you must have either ABN, ACN or a state registered business number to qualify. It's just the rule set up by auDA. Registering for an ABN is free and almost instant although there's tax implication.

  • For the first 2 years. Then pay their ridiculous fees or deal with the hassle of changing registrar.

You'd be better off with Cove or other providers that charge decent prices that will stay after the first year or two instead of going with these gimmicks.

    • How is changing the registrar ever a hassle with .com.au? It's easy to recover the transfer code/password via auDA, even if you can't find it on the registrar:

      http://admin.auda.org.au/password_recovery/blank_recover_pas…

And as you have mentioned COVE — at $24.95 they are far from the cheapest .com.au registrars around.

      • Hmm.. maybe it's me then. I deal with many domains from various registrars and I'd much rather pay an extra $5-$10 than to track my domains and waste time changing registrar. To clarify, I'm not doubting that the actual process of transferring your domain is usually easy.

      • OK I'll bite. Where are some cheaper registrars? I mostly use hostess for $25. I sometimes find cheaper, but they normally require you to purchase hosting as well.

    • Change over isn't too bad. Most registers will do it for you automatically or with very little hassle once you provide the correct information. $16.50 is stil a great deal!

  • Even we are recommending our customers go sign up to this and transfer over to us :)

The transfer process is easy, all you need is the domain password and to click a link in an email you get - that's it!

  • Rip off not that good a deal you also will get nailed after the 2 yrs.
Stick with companies like Jumba where hosting is all they do.
Im sure if its like all the other times Ive had to call MYOB you will be on hold for ages.

    • … Jumba where hosting is all they do.

They also do domain registration through their parent company AussieHQ who is an accredited registrar (which is very different from web hosting). So yeah, most web hosting companies do more than one thing (some even sell protective case for iPhones :)

Seriously, it is not hard to transfer to your preferred registrar at the end of 2 years. I think registrars are actually not allowed to lock you into their system.

  • Thanks Scotty.
Great deal! I just signed up 2 domains. Process was easy.
    :-)
