Hating to be that guy but years back got one of these in a Catch promotion. Used it, loved it, no issues.

Got a call last year being told there was a factory recall as a heap of them had caused shorts and fires.

Had a different name on it but apparantly all the ones that look like this are all made by the same people, so hopefully they've remedied these issues.

Uhh I bought one years back, but didn't get any call….

      Am I doomed?

      • +2

I'm still using mine but pulled it apart and noticed some really shitty soldering work I cleaned up and some really cheap and nasty components that if I didnt have a surge arrester on my house i'd be worried about.

I also wouldn't use this at full load either. I'd imagine others would have a combination of this or possibly worse components in them.

      • F. Good luck.

Wait… what recall? I got 2 of this connected between my UPS and my desktop, and also my NAS… if any of them fried I will be doomed… tell me the recall please!

    • Come to think of it, I did get a call last year. This girl was mentioning something about I needed protection and do I get surges often. I hung up on her. Now I wonder if I acted too hastily.

“Do you get urges? You need protection “

  • +5

Yeah I have two of these and they’re trash.

Cables fall out, and build quality isn’t up to scratch. USB isn’t particularly powerful.

Any brands that you recommend? Looking for a decent 8 (or even higher) way powerboard for my desktop/office setup. Don't really want usb charging either.

I'm using Jackson, only reason is that it's individually switched + if I have any issues, there's no fuss in returning it at JB

      • +1

Belkin and Jackson have been solid

    • I have one, it's been 3 years and still going strong. Can't really find anything better for the price.

    • Agreed agreed agreed.

      Replaced with Belkin.

  • Got this a couple months back. Somehow my PSU still managed to get fried and had to be sent for a RMA. No issues since though.

Just keep hearing negative things about these boards every post, won't be buying then

    • There would be some negs on all brands, but some would just like to point the problem out but the good experience ones wouldn’t

      • +1

Yeah I understand that, but seems pretty consistent on every ozb post

      • I remember when mine got recalled they told me that no matter the brand they were all made in the same facility.

It honestly just sounds like they're using whatever parts and cheap labor they can get at the time and some end up being ok others end up being fire hazards.

had this one for about half-year, connected all my laptop/BT speaker/charging cables and use it every day. no issue so far, very happy with that.

50% more expensive at $30 but Belkin is a reputable brand: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/332813643918?epid=8003306447&has…

      Thanks ordered this one

And 2 less outlets… but appreciate the post given the bad reviews on this deal.

  • Unfortunately I clicked order before reading these reviews!

Oh well, I guess I'm rollin' the dice :)

Paid $26.80 each couple months ago, no issues yet, haven't had any cables fall out, but I usually make sure they're all tightly lugged in every few days… on board usb is okay, they're shared A output…
