Seems to be a historic low for the 3060 on OzBargain (excluding BNPL offers)

Free shipping too if you choose the "BPC Tech Preferred Courier" option

There was an Asus Phoenix posted yesterday that was $629 if using klarna. But this is a much better option because it won't damage your credit score 😂

      • Can I ask re: klarna? I see a few deal with klarna, so can I open an account but pay in full (instead of the 4 payments) to buy the promoted item? Or there is no full payment option?

        • +1

Sorry, I don't use klarna. I do believe it is only pay in 4 instalments though.

        • +1

I can only speak from a single experience, but I have used Klarna once and paid everything upfront immediately through my account. No additional charge to pay all 4 at once, and didn't get a credit enquiry. I also deleted my account after using it.

I recently bought a new house, the bank manager thanked me for not having any BNPL accounts as they have had to turn away customers with those accounts now due to policy changes.
So becareful signing up just for $20 off offers.
        YMMV of course.

        • Its actually kind of unfair that they don't disclose this more openly. I know people should read the disclosure statement before committing to these things, but who really does that? I am sure if people knew that by using these services that it could impact whether they are able to buy a home or not they would just pay the extra $30.

        • How does having a BNPL account impact the credit assessment? Do they have a credit limit that reduces borrowing capacity like a credit card?

          • +1

@ChiefAJ: They are primarily concerned that people using BNPL are more driven to reckless spending.
They do have a credit limit which is agreed upon at signup from experience, yes.
One of the main concerns that they have is the fact that BNPL has high rates of payment delinquency compared with credit cards, meaning that those using them are regarded as more likely to be poor at budgeting and finances, and thus riskier for mortgage payments.
As another commenter noted, the fact that the financial institution can't see how much you're approved for means that they have to assume it's the company's highest approved credit, which greatly reduces how much debt they believe you can take on.

          • +2

@ChiefAJ: I have Afterpay to take advantage of the $10 off Ebay offer a while back. Credit limit is $600 and can't see it in my credit report.

          • @ChiefAJ: It's up to the individual broker how much it affects you. The ones I've talked to consider BNPL a sign of being irresponsible with money. From their perspective if you have to take loans to pay for small <$1k purchases then you can't be trusted to repay a home loan. Of course, a lot of brokers just don't care. Most likely is you get a worse interest rate .

        • +7

That makes no sense, if your home loan is denied due to BNPL you must be right on the lending limits and probably don't warrant a loan.

          • +1

@Jessie Ryder: I think it’s more an issue due to the lack of regulation around BNPL. They can see that you have used the service but cannot see the amount of credit you have so cannot be sure of your actual financial position. As such, some have started doing a blanket denial if some of this credit is found. I am sure there is also a political aspect as the banks don’t like these unregulated providers in the market so this is an indirect way of putting pressure on regulators. Our credit is stellar as is our repayment capacity but we were also told by a broker having no BNPL broadened our borrowing options.

        • +3

Whoever gets turned away because they have a BNPL account should most likely not buy a house yet. In my opinion it always depend on the circumstances. But when a bank does a blanket statement like this they should not hold a bank licence as they don't do a proper check of the credit ability of their clients.

        • +3

That is ridiculous. Anybody can open any number of BNPL account after getting a loan.

      • +3

Just to clarify re: BNPL's impact on your home loan application: you are fine as long as you:

        • make timely repayments
        • able to pay off the whole balance if the lender as you to so you can meet serviceability

Most of these facilities have a limit of $1-2k, so I expect you should be able to pay it off entirely if you are buying a property.

        • +2

Exactly, if you got turned away for a BNPL account then it just means you've maxed it and have a history of being unable to pay it back in which case for the $1000 or so limit for most of these services it means you are far far away from being able to afford a property in the first place.

Edit: I personally use Afterpay because it means I can commit to certain purchases without affecting short term cash which to be perfectly honest has a negligible effect long term but it feels better which is basically what BNPL is all about.

        • +1

Agreed. When we were applying for our home loan we were asked if we had any BNPL accounts, after answering yes, were asked if there are any outstanding balances or interest applied to any outstanding payment, after answering No, the lender moved on and said it's no different to a layby arrangement at this point. We both have accounts with multiple BNPL companies. I think this is what regulators are struggling with… it's not quite credit, but has potential to turn in to it.

Definitely should have waited a few days. I ordered the higher clocked version of this card for $699 on Tuesday. This one was OOS when I ordered. Ah well was always going to happen. At least I can use my shiny new 3060 today!

    • I am just astounded that despite the crypto price shooting back up last week, GPU prices continue to plummet.

Now I realise it's not miners buying more GPUs that are causing that, it's normal people being forced into Crypto due to the invasion

      • Warehouses are full of mining pcs. No more needed until more warehouses built!

  • +3

I would bite if this ever drops below $550 (we're getting close) but given that an XSX console is $750 with performance that is generally considered far better than a 3060, it's still pretty poor value if all you want it for is gaming

    • +3

But you'll be stuck with xbox ecosystem. I have an xbox, I got it for the value, but it's no replacement for the pc, especially if you're into indie game.

      • +2

Not suggesting that an Xbox can replace a PC for all scenarios but if you're like a good majority of gamers who want to play the latest AAA titles with little fuss and a smaller budget, then it will hit the spot.

I have both consoles and PCs and play a variety of games so I know where you're coming from. They each have their pros and cons but I can definitively say that PC gaming today is not for the budget-minded.

        • +1

          XBOX: AAA titles, AA experience

          • +2

@Ulysses31: It's sad to say but I have to agree with that sentiment. There is often much hype when it comes to consoles but for the cost of entry, you can't really complain.

Like all things in life, you're gonna have to pay top dollar if you want the best experience. Some people have no problem paying 5x the price for 2x improvement - depends on what you value.

    • You'd immediately regain the difference from cheaper software costs

      • It's actually not that different nowadays, surprisingly. If something like humble bundle get their hand on it, then yeah, it's cheaper. But compared to most major online platforms like steam and Epic, the Microsoft store have very similar discount prices. I got red dead 2 for 33 bucks last year when steam was selling it for 41 at lowest.

But pc definitely still have ways to gain value, like epic free games, for example lol.

        • Was thinking dirtier methods like piracy and 85% cheaper DLC via Argentinian VPN on steam

          • @Big Sexy Unit: I mean, if you do vpn pricing, you can do the same with Microsoft as well.

But yes, you can pirate on pc.

      • Don’t forget that disc versions of console games can be resold on the used market.. perfect for newly released single player titles where there’s little replay value

On the other hand, if online multiplayer is your thing, then PC wins that one with no subscriptions needed usually.

But it’s hard to make blanket statements as it may or may not apply to everyone’s situation

  • I am sure the 7600 XT will most likely come out from AMD side pretty soon since its almost been a year which will most likely be better than the 3060, But I am also sure Nvidia will follow soon as well with Maybe RTX 4060?

    • Looks like AMD will release an update to current gen first. 6x50 versions with upgraded mem bandwidth. 40x0 series is rumoured to be this year.

  • o wow apparently the 6600xt is better than the 3060 https://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Nvidia-RTX-3060-vs-AMD…

    • But if you care about DLSS, then need to stick with 3060

  • +1

Is it worth upgrading from a 1650 super to this? I always wanted to upgrade to a 2070s but obvs its priced out as (profanity) now (600 vs 1.2k)

    • +2

Userbench is NOT a trustworthy source for comparisons, BTW.

According to this, you'll be gaining roughly 28% in performance, assuming 1080p ultra gaming i.e. you'd have to sell your 1650S for around $480 to make it a no brainer

      • Well, the good thing about 3060 is that it supports dlss, so while it is a 1080p gaming card, it'll look far better on a 1440p monitor. I don't know what does that mean in value though.

      • +1

No, according to your link, the performance will increase from 25.7% to 53.7% of a 6900XT. That's means you'll get a 109% increase in performance, not 28%.

        • -1

You're not wrong to interpret it in that way but I prefer to look at it in more relative terms as a comparison to other GPUs out there. It helps me gauge whether a purchase is good bang for buck.

That said, "value" can't always be measured in black and white terms. As long as it brings enjoyment and you get good use out of it, that's all that really matters.

          • @OSienna: I think there's only one way to look at it, it is a 109% performance increase.

You said yourself earlier that he would have to sell his 1650S for $480 to make it worthwhile, implying that the performance difference was 28% in absolute terms, which it's not.

He would actually only need to sell the card for roughly half (around $320) in order to maintain the performance/dollar.

            • @Skips: Man, whatever you need to rationalise your purchase.. I’d be fooling myself if I followed that logic

    • people are still rocking the 1080 Ti lol so pretty sure you should be fine.

  • This is a great price for a dual fan version. The other one that came up a couple of days ago was the single fan version, which is great for small form factor PC's, but 2 fans will run slower and quieter than a single fan moving the same amount of air across a smaller heatsink..

I grabbed one of the Techfast deals a while back when they had 3060 cards for $729, very happy with it!

  • 2 years HODL and this seems to be the tipping point. How to I unprise my fingers so I can pull the trigger?

    • +4

      Lube up.

      • +5

Yes, apply MORrison lube to get your finger SCOTT-free.

  • About 5% slower in performance than the mighty GTX 1080 Ti at 4K resolution - But of course the 3060 supports DLSS and Ray Tracing for some games.

  • +2

Still 100-200 more than it should be for a **60 card. HODL if you can.

  • Take care - ordered from BPC Tech, gave them a call on check on its whereabouts and it seems they have no ETA of when the cards are coming in.

    • Well at least they know when the money's coming in lol

    • update… another representative said they should have it in the next couple of days ._.
