I'd love to get this controller but the ongoing stick drift issue is preventing me. Both my joycon pairs now have it and I rely on a 3rd party controller just to play.

    • +16

The joycon sticks are different size to the pro sticks.

It's my understanding that the pro controller sticks hold up as well as PlayStation and Xbox sticks (i.e less than perfect), but markedly better durability than the joycon sticks.

      • Oh I thought it was the same mechanism as the joycons? If it's more closer to the PS and Xbox controllers then maybe I'll consider it.

        • +7

Nope, different mechanisms. It's closer to the Xbox Series/ PS5 controllers.

        • +7

Can confirm been through a set of joycons but pro controller going strong for 3.5 years

        • +1

Yeah I've had my pro controller going on 5 years now no drift issues, I use my pro controller almost every day

      • Yeah my pro controller is fine where as my joycons get the drift thing.

    • +1

I have been smashing Hades for weeks now and my pro controllers are holding up well. In fact, the one I bought second hand years ago is as good as new in terms of performance.

    • Totally different I have had my Pro Control since launch and had absolutely zero issues. No stick drift with these its joypads only.

  • yeah I got this back in 2019 I think for about 60 so this is not a cheap deal lol.

    • +29

I bought petrol once in 1999 for 80c a litre. Anything under $2 now not a bargain.

        • +2

Do you need to add a lead replacement additive to protect the valves on your DeLorean?

all negative votes are from Sydney. :D

Just get the 8bit Pro 2.. only issue is that you can wake the Switch up

    • 8bit 100% for Rasberry pi's but wouldn't buy it for anything else lol

      • Why's that?

    • +1

      Deal breaker then

      • Yeah waking the Switch up from the couch is the best.

    • +1

better d-pad and the ability to use it for your PC. I would probably go for the 8bitdo, but YMMV

      • Pro Controller works on PC as well, depends on what games you play which layout is better for you. I have both, use each for different games.

    • I have 2 8bit pros and i'm considering this just so I can wake up the switch.

      • +1

I'm looking at the comment above and then yours…so the 8bitdo controllers don't have the ability to wake-up the Switch right?

        • +2

The top comment should have said "can't" wake the switch up. My 2 second Google shows they're only $10 cheaper than this, I'd definitely recommend the Pro.

          • @Hinee: Thought as such….cheers!

I have two 8bitdo controllers and think they make quality controllers. Whilst my experience with getting things repaired under warranty with Nintendo Australia hasn't been great. 😕

    • How is waking up the switch an issue?

      • +1

It's super convenient to smash buttons on joycons from the couch and have that wake up the Switch and turn the TV on. 😅

I've got two 8bitdo Pro 2's but the layout is a bit awkward for some Switch games after getting used to joycons in a holster.

The holster is a bit small, so I'm hoping that a Switch Pro Controller is wider and more comfortable.

  • Dammit I literally just bought this yesterday on Amazon for $89!

    • Thank you 😉

  • what origami game?

      • This

    • +1

For the benefit of OP and anyone else reading this Origami King is hot garbage. Paper Mario Games peaked with Thousand Year Door and have sadly been in decline ever since. It's a shame because I really love the first two games in the series and some of the (spiritually related) Mario and Luigi games. You'd be much better off putting your money towards any one of a number of excellent indie titles on the Switch.

      • +1

I might get Super Mario Odyssey after I get through BOTW, Ori and the Will of the Wisps, Hollow Knight, Metroid Dread, Hades, Limbo, Inside… ozbargain, what have you done? I've only had a Switch since January 😆

  • I have couple of no brand controllers that Amazon sells as well for ~$30 each. They work just fine.

Would this Pro controller be much better?

  • How is this for PC gaming? This is Bluetooth, right? Would Steam recognise it and map it an Xbox config?

    • I've got one and have been using it for Steam gaming - it's okay but the bluetooth is a bit flakey for me. The real annoyance is that most games still show you XBOX button icons when you're using the controller so it can be a bit of pain trying to figure out which button that translates to on the Switch Pro controller. YMMV

      • Good to know. Thanks. I use a PS4 controller. Steam translates that to Xbox controls, so that's alright for me.

Flakey Bluetooth is a worry. Thanks for the info.

        • +2

The Switch controller uses the same letters as the Xbox controller but in a different order, so that might be confusing.

      • Just a fyi go to steam > big picture mode (top right corner) > settings > controller settings and check the box for Nintendo switch controller remap. Will remap all the buttons to their appropriate location. :)

        • I think I did this but in-game the icons that get displayed don't always match up. I figure that's more a limitation of the game than anything else though - not Steam's fault.

    • It works great with Steam 'big picture' mode. I second what itswags98 and neolithic both said, and will add that it's somewhat annoying having to re-pair the controller every time I switch it from the Switch to the PC and vice versa.

  • +1

Thanks OP. Just ordered one to go with the OLED Switch I ordered the other night, to go with the Pokémon Legends: Arceus I ordered the night before that… damnit.

    • spender

  • A lot of the reviews are mentioning that the controllers are fake. The pictures look like they are correct. Might be worth checking when you receive it to make sure you can get a refund if wanted.

    • +2

Amazon collates all reviews from all sellers, not just Amazon themselves.

There's a low chance of receiving a fake if the seller is from Amazon and if you do, they're fairly efficient in dealing with issues.

      • Thanks. Good to know

    • I bought one a week ago, it's legit

  • -1

@OP, you enjoy using the same profile pic on other platforms, don’t you :P

  • just pricematched at JB using a gift card i had - makes it cheaper again :)

  • +1

Side note on this controller which pleases me: The battery used for this controller is the same battery for the 3DS. Excellent component re-use, Nintendo!

And it can be replaced! :-)

  • Most comfortable controller ever, I wish I could use this controller on the Xbox

    • yep, my favourite in order would be the switch controller, then the xbox controller, and then the ps5 controller. comfort wise.

  • +1

this controller literally lasts forever, around over 40+ hours. great controller, always liked the tactile triggers.

  • anyone tried this on PC with n64 emulators?

  • +1
