    Homekit version is 👌🏻

    • Can I go "hey Siri, open the garage door" through Iphone and itll do it with Homekit version only?

      • Yes. Provided that you have homebridge server. And while in the process, you can also import all of your other smart devices to be apple homekit compatible.

        • You don’t need homebridge if you purchase the HomeKit version!

          • @[Deactivated]: Correct! I’m replying to the above for Using Siri with homekit without being a HomeKit compatible. And whilst you’re at it, it’s nice to have all other smart devices be homekit compatible through homebridge.

            • +1

@OzTech74L: Yep awesome. Glad you clarified.

The problem with homebridge is that (most people) will be at the mercy of the programmer for the plug-in when it comes to reliability.

I’ve found homebridge ones to be more unresponsive (depending how well the coding is) compared to native HomeKit.

              Ymmv, of course.

  • -2

Hmmm. Not sure how safe is it.

    • -1

It's just an app control for your garage door.
      What makes it 'unsafe'?

      • +2

I think any cloud connected device that provides access to an area of your house could be considered unsafe, especially if you have an Alexa or Google Home near your window and someone outside could ask it loudly enough to open your garage door.

Also if your garage door doesn't have the right safety features you could close it when someone is half way out, if you thought you left it open and checked the app later.

However given auslei provided no detail they might just be worried this will interfere with their tinfoil hat

        • +6

outside could ask it loudly enough to open your garage door

Requires a pin number if you enable this.

          • +2

@SBOB: This is true. Will request for pin.

          • @SBOB: Makes sense. If I ever did this I'd tell my wife to make sure she always whispered the pin number to avoid anyone overhearing

          • @SBOB: I have the Tuya brand and needs a pin, but a friend with this version said you can disable pin via the app

        • +5
          1. It won't just open based on voice command, you need to tell it your pin number that you set up.

          2. It alerts you when it is opened and closed, so you can't just forget if it's opened or closed because it tells you.

          3. If your garage door doesn't have auto reverse when it hits something then this likely won't work with it, because your garage door is old as hell.

    • +11

Do you think locks keep your doors safe? They don't. In fact, I would say it's easier to pick the lock on your front door than it would be to gain access via this device.

      • -5

No, not sure about that. Even the LPL has to take the tools out of his bag. Some yahoo shouting "alexa, open garage door" at the window seems a bit easier.

        • @robc - A standard pick and tensioner is tiny. You hardly need a tool bag for them. You would be really surprised how easy it is to pick most locks, if you gave it a try.
There is a saying, locks keep honest people honest.

As for someone gaining access to your alexa, if you are going to leave that attack vector open then you've got bigger problems to worry about.

      • +3

Most Aussie home doorlock is not 'secure' one unlike Europe, pretty much any key you can duplicate from local Bunnings. So yes, you can pick them easily.

Then most Aussie home door is also not steel reinforced door so a good shoulder charge would do the job.

Or they might just break your window coz it's easier.

        • +3

What makes euro locks so much more secure? I've stayed in a fair few difference places (friend's place, Airbnb) in Europe and the keys didn't seem any different from Australian ones - still a single row for 4-5 tumblers inside a barrel.

Breaking a window or kicking in a door is likely to be loud and draw attention. Security isn't necessarily making it impossible to get in, but highly discouraging that and making it difficult to do without getting caught.

It might be easier to just have powerful drop saw and cut off the bit of the door where the hinges are, but that doesn't happen all that regularly either. Or movie style - blow the hinges off with a shotgun

          • +1

@Domingo: It depends on the country. In Italy, this is a typical/basic residential door lock https://youtu.be/IEXyJb75v-Y?list=FLn4qe1pjVjPBTr5NL5Twjog&t…
Usually there are additional horizontal and vertical steel bars that go into walls and floor, which are brick or concrete. The door itself is steel with or without an external wood veneer.
To duplicate the key, you need to send a request to the maker and provide your information and a security code, it can't be copied just anywhere.
In rentals, smaller villages, etc… you might find simple locks like the ones we have are, as there is almost zero chances of a break in. That is generally also the case in countries that use wooden frames.

            • +2

@RiseAndRuin: The doors are certainly more secure, but the lock itself can be picked.

Just look at lockpickinglawyer on youtube - he proves that essentially any lock can be picked EASILY. All you need is the right (easily purchased) tools - if you're intention is to break in somewhere, you would buy said tools and be on your merry way.

              • @zukand: I wouldn't call some of the stuff he does easy.
Once you get into the hobby, you realise just how talented that guy is.
It's like saying Lance Armstrong made cycling look easy.
After a few months of practice, most people could probably pick a "security lock" with a few spools without too much trouble in a few minutes.
it's locks that are susceptible to raking that are incredibly easy for low talent people to open.

          • @Domingo: Exactly, hence why this wouldn’t be a security concern at all.

      • +1

I think it's more of an insurance policy thing than anything else. Seems like getting a lock installed by a licensed locksmith does matter when making an insurance claim. For thieves, when there's a will to break in, there's a way.

      • +1

        Or just break a window

    • +9

My garage door would disagree with you..

    • +1

This i have been using for more than a year. Go to Meross site and check the compatibility of your garage door. Its very easy to set-up and eay to integrate with Google assistant. i bought when it was $48. $35 is very good price.

    • You're wrong buddy.

It's 5V 1A USB. You might have to get a US->AU adaptor, if you don't have any spare 5V 1A USB wall chargers laying around.

    • What makes you think that?

  • Damn, wish the HomeKit version was reduced too!

    • +2

Why not just use HomeKit bridge?
      Home assistant
      https://github.com/krahabb/meross_lan

    • Just use Siri shortcut. Mine is a Tuya version, and you can add certain actions to Siri Shortcuts. Besides you can set it to open as you get close to home and close when leaving or on a countdown.

  • How does it sense of the door is open or closed?
Doesn't look like they're is an optical or magnetic sensor included

    • +5

      Reed switch

EDIT: They've generalised it under the phrase "1 x door sensor and cables" for the average user. It's definitely a reed switch though.

    • +1

It has a magnetic sensor in the box. One part is wired and the other one is just a magnet you attach to the door. When the door is closed they are adjacent to each other.

  • This is for android?

    • There is an apple app as well

  • +3

This works fine with Chamberlain. Installed a month ago. Got good features too, open/close notification, overtime reminder, auto-close at certain times etc. Works with Samsung Android phones, it can be integrated into Google hub and you can also have a mobile app that can be used to open/close the garage. A lot of videos on Youtube on how to install etc.

    • How is the installation, can you DIY?

      • +1

Yes. Depends on your brand of door but most are really easy. And as seonken says - there's a bunch of installation videos on Youtube.

      • +2

Hardest part was working out which colour wire went where on my older garage door motor.

It doesn't say if you get it wrong something gets fried, I didn't want to find out the hard way, so had to do some research first. It was a 50/50 choice.

        • As it's just emulating a push switch, it shouldn't matter which way you wire it.

  • bought this non-homekit device at $60 last year. Happy with this so far with bells and whistles with Android phone. As i dont use google or alexa or apple so this model is enough for me. the only drawback for this device is you either open or close so you cant stop it in the middle.

  • +1

I have had this for a month now. It disconnected only once but don't think it was the unit's fault, the wifi network at home was playing up and couldn't connect.

It works well once you set it up in Google Home. You can set scenes and automation. So when you are arriv8ng at home the door opens.

    • How do you automate the garage door to open when you are near home?

      • Geo fencing

      • +4

If you use Android Auto or Apple CarPlay you can always ask Miss Google/Siri to open the door for you near home. They'll ask for your PIN (if set) prior to opening. I call my Meross opener "Sesame".

        • I've done this and put in a shortcut in AA to run it, however it always still asks for a pin. I've read I can't do anything about the pin so wanted to see how others are doing it.
          What would geofencing require?

          • @sphinxy: It's usually part of the app, and you set a circumference circle around your home.

Once you are within the zone, the app sends the open/close command.

Edit, It didn't need the code,
but once, it randomly opened the door while I was still at home. Different brand, though, the Bunnings one..

I just had delivered today the 3-door varient for my double garage. I will set it up this w/e

            • @Austaurean: Ah right. Thanks for that. However I can't see a geofencing option in the meross app, so they must have set up some 3rd party one

  • Sounds like this has an app to allow you to open and close the door, am I correct?

Asking because I don't have a smart home like Alexa or anything. But I assume that doesnt matter if I got the app and connected to wifi?

    • -1

I’d probably start with some lights and routines turning things on and off before jumping into an automated garage door.

      • +3

Why? With this you can enter and leave your house without having to take a key. You don't need smart lights and routines for this at all.

    • +1

Yes - works via app or I often ask Google on my phone to open/close the door so I don't have to hunt for the remote.

  • Using the apple kit version… Really happy with it

  • Ordered one, nice find. Thanks

  • Does anyone know is this work for B&D garage door ? TIA

    • +2

If your door has an option for a wired wall switch available for the motor there will be a connector for this on the motor. It can use those two terminals. You can check the manual for the door/motor.
Otherwise you can check the compatibility here:
      https://www.meross.com/compatibility

      • the website is down ! :(

  • +1

I installed this for like 3 weeks. I am having some weird issues with it.

For two nights last week, it had opened by itself. Once when we were sleeping at around 11:30pm and it automatically closed at 12:38am. Was able to look back at our garage CCTV footage to confirm that it has opened.

Second time was at 10:30pm when we were not asleep so we were able to close it ASAP.

I am in contact with Meross to see what the issue is.

    • +1

Have you set up Geofencing? I tried it once.. until the door opened all by itself.. So I turned Geofencing off and all good since

  • I have this and works well. Would have liked homekit version but now have managed to getting this working with siri using ifttt webhooks

  • +1

Bought one to pair with a B&D CAD4.

    • hopefully it works! same model here

  • Anyone know how which pins to install on a merlin ms105myq?

    • +1

Looking at the manual it would be 1 (+ve) and 2 (-ve). These are the connections for the optional push button wired wall control.

    • Yep I can confirm it works like a charm. Installed one myself on my Merlin Commander Elite MS105MYQ

  • -1

Openers with sensor is a better option

    • What do you mean?

    • +1

From the listing: "It detects the door "open" And "close" Status with provided High sensitive sensors.

I have this model and it comes with a reed switch on a wire that tells you open or closed status.

  • Do these work with roller doors?

    • Yes

      • Where would the best place to put the sensors?

        • I put mine to make the sensor and the magnet to meet when the door is fully open. So the app will tell you if the door is fully open, otherwise it will think it is closed.

          • +3

@mrTT: Thats a bad way to have it done - if your door is half open it will say its closed which is not good. It's better to have it setup to meet when the door is fully closed - that way if the door is open only a little bit it will say open

            • @howdydood: thats a good idea, but mine came with instructions to install on top.. I think this is how Tuya sees the input as OPEN. otherwise, it will report wrong…having said that I didnt spent too much think about it

  • Does it work with Merlin powerlift model 3000? I don't have any remote

    • +1

you can check on their site

    • +1

you'd have to fnd a manual or look yourself.
if it has pin headers for connecting a push button to, it will work (as thats all this unit does, it closes a contact when triggered)

  • Ordered, thanks

Edit: mine is a generic brand, hopefully it works.

  • amazing price, i have two garage doors, can one unit be used across two, or should I buy two units? And if I buy two, does that make it confusing and difficult for the app to work? I have android auto too.. I'm assuming the non-homekit version works with this?

    • Use this, it does 2 doors.
Comes from China, mine is apparently, currently sitting in Sydney. Hopefully arrives this week.

      https://shop.meross.com/products/smart-garage-door-opener?us…

      US$46. can select AU adapter

Edit… just turned up. Looks good. I will see about installing on the weekend

    • You have to buy one unit per garage door.

The app can register multiple door openers.

Non-homekit works with apple and android (and android auto), it just doesn't integrate with Apple HomeKit.

      • +1

The one i linked to will do 3 doors with 1 unit. Came with 3 reed switches. Looking forward to one app and one device for the 2 doors

        • +1

Oh nice, I answered for the product in the OP but it's good to know they have an option for multiple doors.

  • Hi
Does anyone know if we can use voice command via Samsung watch to open/close garage door?
    Thanks.

    • If you can use Google Assistant on the Samsung Watch then I'd assume so, but haven't seen anything about Bixby integration.

  • How is this comparing to the Laser brand sold by JB?

    https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/connect-smart-remote-gara…

Found an useful link to share with you guys , if anyone done successful with B&D garage door please let me know -
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0gcyJC_WkRk

I am also following for B and D garage

      • +2

        Me 3.
        I have the B&D Controll-A-Door® P.
If anyone can confirm it works with B&D, I'd be super grateful.

        • +1

website is back up - https://www.meross.com/compatibility - I think they are just stating that everything is supported there :)

          • +1

@realaaa: Thanks, I was struggling to find this url. Looks ike they have a B&D Controll-A-Door® P Diamond, but I'm guessing it should be the same(ish).

            • +1

@lordra: google " meross ' you will see it - the above link which I tried - no work ;) but thank realaaa

        • +3

Yes it does. I can confirm. I used to have a DIY Sonoff inline smart switch and it works too.

    • +2

I’m using it in my B&D no problem.

  • It looks like this would be compatible with my Garage Door but not sure about the Garage Gate. Anyone know if this works with gates as well?

    • I would think it would depend on the motor/control box for the gate. If it has a manual open/close button on the motor that is just closing a loop between 2 wires then it should theoretically work.
