Can't seem to get the 3080 TUF for shipping, pickup only from the NSW stores…otherwise I'd snag one!

    • The Strix is avail for shipping for $100 if you'd like!

      • Too big for my case :( but $1499 for strix 3080 is a bargain for sure.

        • -2

3080 [10gb] had a pretend launch price of 700usd, which is 975aud. not sure I'd call 1499 a bargain just to play some games..

          • +4

@Doomedgrind: 3080 MSRP in Australia is 1139 and Asus rog 3080 has never been sold at msrp anytime. The brand has its premium

          • +6

            @Doomedgrind: you must be new!

gpus have NEVER EVER matched usa pricing in aus just based on exchange rate!

I’ve been around since voodoo 3 era!

Aus pricing is at best 160% normally 200% of usa pricing no matter the exchange rate. Eg $500 usd card normally about $1000 aud

This is due to GST and Aussie distributors etc making extra cash 💰

            • +2

@neosin: That may be true! but definitely not going to use that excuse to justify it! Just means my willingness to pay does not meet the current asking price. meaning I may never buy! :)

  • Legend bargain catcher!

  • +12

    hodl

  • Kinda wanna swap my 3070 to Asus 3080 now….

  • +2

Does this mean there were lots of crypto miners from Russia?

    • the china ban gpus had to go somewhere

  • +5

There is no way I'm prepared to drive that far especially with fuel prices now, so I guess I continue to hodl on to my 560ti?

    • +3

Yes you should. GPU will drop even more later.

    • I used to have 2x MSI 560 ti Hawks in SLI back in the day. Such a beast….as long as the games supported SLI.

    • just go chopper for cheap fuel
      its only…… 1..9…8.. for 91 wtf

  • +1

These are plummeting in price now

  • My wallet is screaming.

  • those 3060 ti prices are beautiful!

  • Rip, woulda snapped up a 3080.

  • +3

Arc/alchemist being announced on the 30th of march! Mark the date everyone. Here's hoping we have a massive price collapse =D

    • +4

That's only true for laptop editions of alchemist. Desktop variants are supposed to be announced Mid May-June from my knowledge.
I could be completely wrong though.

      • Wait actually yeah I think you may be right

    • +1

They have heaps of cash, have poached the best engineers (including from AMD), and unlike AMD, they have industry connections and a massive marketing budget.

Intel is going to make a huge spash, they will be selling the cards at cost if they have to, just to gain market share.

  • +1

    3060ti prices are very good!

  • +1

And magically they are ~400 less than they were a month ago!

    • +3

      and more to come!

  • +1

Bought a 3080 TUF on release. Hiiiighly recommend them. Runs cool and so quiet, plus they’re a good size. Buy one!

    • +3

Likewise, 'overpriced' at around $1800ish but atleast I got it early….. sometimes it beats the hassle of looking for a long time.

      • +3

mate you got to enjoy it for that long, its nothing really

        • Yeah, that was my justification.

Wasn't gonnna put up with the stress over at the time a 2-300 scalp.

  • Jesus, that drop

  • +4

I have a feeling that looking at Umart, many large stores will drop prices. This is only a beginning of what is to come… hopefully!

    • +1

Selling like hotcakes in 2 hours, you better be quick next time other retailers drop their bomb.

This look like the 'bottom' price of 30xx series.

      • No, I dont want this, too late in the life cycle to buy it. After reading all the leaks, 4080/7800XT it is. For the little gaming I do, my card is good enough for now. The bottom price hit when 2nd hand GPU enter the market, if that happens.

        • +2

what about the msrp of 4080? seeing they way ngreedia been making hotcakes, I doubt they repeat the US$699 kerfuffle.

          • @[Deactivated]: The 4080 will be beast of a card, and wont be any less. But its worth paying for it few months down the line rather than paying this much for a 3080 now.

            • @John Doh: you might need to upgrade psu as well for it. its all still rumours now, nothing confirmed.

              • @[Deactivated]: A 4080 is 450 watts, my 750 watts seasonic focus+ gold will be just fine considering my systems other parts will consume 150 watts max. If its still not enough, I will sell it and buy a higherend one. A 80$ extra is not a big deal when spending 1500$

                • @John Doh: You will need more than 750w for a 4080.

                  • @pharcyde: How do you know? There is no official information only rumours.

  • 3080 $1139 was Founders RRP so guessing there's maybe $100+ more to drop down or hopefully sub RRP prices soon given 4000's on the horizon along with new Intel GPU's?

  • +2

    Getting tempting! Must hold…

  • CHEAP!

  • +2

    HODL

  • hOlD

  • Anyone else notice in their Facebook market the price is still really high?

    • +1

them being priced like that doesn't mean they are selling

    • +3

      Dumb sellers are dumb.

I atleast research pricing before I put things up.

      • +3

If the prices were good, the listings wouldn't be there - because they would be sold.

    • +1

There will always be dumb buyers.

  • OOS for 3080 TUF

    • oos for everything

  • -1

Hodl, wait til market bottoms out!

  • +3

    https://www.digitaltrends.com/computing/dont-buy-a-gpu-right…

    From the link
"Well-known leaker Greymon55 says that “GPU prices are going to drop dramatically” in March. German outfit 3DCenter also charted prices for last month, showing prices nearing levels from January 2021.

With new graphics card generations on the way and a clear decline in prices, now is the worst time to buy a graphics card. "

    • Well I mean it's a better time than last month or so haha, but yeah, probably going to be a big price slide for the next 6mo.

  • Can I ask why people are continuing to say HODL? Apologies, I’m a little uninformed as to what the (further) downward drivers of price would be. At what point are we saying it’s time to buy?

    • +3

If you don't need a GPU right now, hold off. Prices are still above an Aussie MSRP, the cards are nearing the end of their cycle and the 40XX series should be arriving late this year. At that point you should be able to buy a 40 series card which would be a decent chunk more powerful and potentially get a 30 series card lower than MSRP as people sell them to make room for shiny new 40 cards.

Edit: basically hold off for MSRP to save about $300 (I think? Forget what original MSRP is) or more.

      • Ah cheers, this is super helpful! Yeah I’m not currently in the market for a GPU, so happy to hold out for the 4000 series. Really promising to see prices trending down though!

    • +2

      A confluence of downward forces.
      1) crypto died
      2) increased output from team green/red
      3) new gen GPUs expected in about 6mo from nvidia
      4) most excitingly…Intel is joining the discrete GPU market =D (who doesn't love more competition?)

      • Thank you, very helpful summary!!

      • -2

        A divergence of upward forces:
        1. Crypto resurgence with further eth pos delay
        2. 40xx series and arc is mining proof making 30xx series highly coveted
        3. 30xx price spiralled upwards, 40xx series msrp to follow suit.
        4. HODLers need to wait another 8 years for 90xx series price to drop to $800.

  • so petrol prices up means gpu prices down? interesting - all we needed was a ww3 to get a rrp price

    • +1

Haha unfortunately ww3 would likely mean we lose TSMC, which would be beyond catastrophic.

  • Finally this deal got ozbargained so quickly this time.

    • because the informed people knows the near 'bottom' price. follow the bread crumbs but make sure ur not missing out.

      • +1

        4000 series isn't out, TSMC 6nm isn't out, alchemist isn't out

…noop, we likely still have a way to fall.

  • +3

PCCG is also selling this card for the same price.

    • -1

      Their damn shipping fee though.

      • $16 is cheaper than driving interstate. considering petrol price these days.

        • +1

Just to let you know and make you happy forever, I have ordered this 3080 TUF from PCCG.

          • @edfoo: wait what? I'm gonna take this screenshot, laminate, and frame it. LOL…

            congrats btw.

            • +1

@[Deactivated]: Reason is because I am buying other PC parts for a new build as well. With current 10% storewide discount from Shopping Express I am also saving some money from those parts, not just with this GPU price drop.

  • +1

If we hold long enough these will be free.

    • free from what? the evil regime?

  • hold
