My tips assume you want to purchase it directly from Apple…

    1. Apple EPP Portals

If you have access to an EPP (Employee Purchase Program) portal through your workplace, you can get a 10% discount on Apple accessories at the Apple Online Store.

Please note that Apple On Campus (AOC) portals (e.g. Australian Education Union, University of South Australia) are treated in a similar manner to EPP portals, but they do not offer a 10% discount on Apple accessories.

EPP portals cannot be stacked with cashback from cashback providers (e.g. Cashrewards, Shopback).

    2. Apple gift cards

You have three options for purchasing Apple gift cards:

    • Discounted gift card portals. However, the discount for Apple gift cards at portals that actually sell them is approximately 5%.

    • Bonus Flybuys or Everyday Rewards points on purchases of Apple gift cards at Coles, Woolworths or BIG W. However, these deals only crop up approximately once a month, and you’ll usually get 10% of the gift card’s value returned to you in the form of loyalty program points.

To drive the “savings” a little further, you could purchase prepaid gift cards first and then use them as a payment method for Apple gift cards, but the additional “savings” are marginal, plus there is the relatively unsecure nature of prepaid gift cards, plus the fact that Coles and Woolworths have some restrictions on the use of prepaid gift cards.

    • Bonus Flybuys or Everyday Rewards points on purchases of TCN or Ultimate gift cards at Coles, Woolworths or BIG W. I mention this, because you can get TCN or Ultimate gift cards that are redeemable at JB Hi-Fi, then pop into a physical JB Hi-Fi store and use TCN or Ultimate gift cards to purchase Apple gift cards. This route is a lot more hassle than the previous two options, but it may be worth it if you get TCN or Ultimate gift cards at a 10% or 15% upfront discount. (I discuss this in more detail here.)

I’ll also mention the previous point about using prepaid gift cards as a payment method also applies for this option too.

If you were wondering, you can use Apple gift cards as a payment method when purchasing items through EPP portals. You can also use Apple gift cards as a payment method when purchasing items via Cashrewards, but you may not be able to do this via Shopback.

    3. Potentially price match at an Apple Store or over-the-phone with an Apple Authorised Retailer

If you spot an Apple Authorised Reseller (e.g. Officeworks, JB Hi-Fi) selling the keyboard or mose at a cheaper price, you can either walk into an Apple Store or call Apple on 133 MAC (133 622) and ask them to price match an Apple Authorised Reseller. However, there is no formal price matching policy at Apple (as far as I can tell), so how far you get may be dependent on the salesperson who assists you.

Please also note that you cannot ask for price matches through the Apple Online Store.

    • Thanks! I don't have access to EPP. I have Flybuys but not sure when is the next deal. OW or JB don't have any discounts on these esp the new black silver Touch ID keyboard and magic mouse. Notice shopback are doing 5.5% cashback (normally only 1.5%). Not sure if these new Keyboards and mouse black/silver apply to this 5.5%

      • I’m not sure when the next deal at Coles will be, but if I was a betting person making a wild guess, I’d say it’d be next month.

I don’t think Apple would exclude Apple keyboards or mice from cashback via Shopback, but it is hard to tell, because Shopback are not doing a good at providing clear guidance on what is included and what is excluded.

        • Yeah Shopback are hit and miss, and their reward % is often LESS than advertised :-/

          What's TCN?

I need to find someone with EPP lol

PS I need to order from Apple online as I want to get the British keyboard…

          • @PredatorvsAlien: I have access to EPP - it's 376.20 for the black keys one and matching mouse

I don't know how I can buy it for you though

tried sending you a message but you don't allow it

          • @PredatorvsAlien: For future reference, The Card Network (TCN) is a gift card issuer that issues:

            • Merchant-category-restricted gift cards (e.g. gift cards that can be spent at restaurants, bars, beauty salons, etc)

            • Gift cards that can be spent at a list of participating retailers. JB Hi-Fi is listed as a participating retailer for some of these gift cards, which is the reason I mentioned them earlier.

            • @WookieMonster: Thanks WookieMonster. Assuming Apple is not a participanting retailer with TCN ?

              • @PredatorvsAlien: Nope, it’s not a participating retailer.

If you want to use a TCN-issued gift card to get an Apple gift card, you’d have to purchase a TCN-issued gift card with JB Hi-Fi as a participating retailer, then you’d have to go to JB Hi-Fi to purchase an Apple gift card. It’s a bit of faffing around, to be honest…

                • @WookieMonster: lol. Sounds like it

Are there any TCN or JB-hifi gift discounts at present?

Doesn’t sound like Apple Gift cards get discounted much

                  • @PredatorvsAlien: No, but there is currently a deal at Woolworths for 20x Everyday Rewards points on purchase of some Ultimate gift cards.

Ultimate gift cards are similar to TCN gift cards, but they are issued by rival gift card issuers (Blackhawk Network and Heritage Bank). Some Ultimate gift cards can be redeemed at JB Hi-Fi, and I left a comment in that deal regarding using those gift cards to purchase Apple gift cards at JB Hi-Fi.

To be fair, you did mention earlier you only had Flybuys, so that Woolworths deal probably has limited appeal. There are no TCN/Ultimate/JB Hi-Fi/Apple gift card deals at Coles at the moment…

                    • +1

@WookieMonster: Thanks WookieMonster for all your help and info. I only have the flybuys with coles. The Mrs may have the Woolworths rewards cards but wonder if too much faffing about lol

                      • @PredatorvsAlien: I’d probably only bother with the TCN/Ultimate gift card x JB Hi-Fi route if:

                        • I was desperate and needed Apple gift cards ASAP, and/or

                        • The TCN or Ultimate gift cards were 15% off.

Another thing I should have mentioned is that you may run into the odd JB Hi-Fi staff or two who really don’t want you to use TCN/Ultimate gift cards as a payment method for Apple gift cards (even though there is no official JB Hi-Fi policy that I know of that forbids this).

I think if you’re looking at getting a few hundred dollars worth of items from JB Hi-Fi, that extra faffing about is probably too much hassle for minimal benefit… although maybe the Mrs may be happy with a bunch of bonus points! Lol

  • I bought a touchID keyboard and mouse in green from ebay (they are sold with iMacs so can't buy the green ones new) - there was an ebay promo coupon and I got them both for $246 delivered

    • That's a great price. The black keys touch ID keyboard and black magic mouse is full retail at $418 !

      • mine is the shorter one without numeric keypad but still
