Looks like clearing stock as new chips announced today will be coming out in April so it'll get cheaper still: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cDMfPSRBxFw

    • How exactly will the new chips make pricing of the 5600X even cheaper? The 5600X is already coming in at ~$300 AUD.

The 5600 at $199 USD will translate to perhaps $300 AUD, but likely around a $270-280 sale price. The 5500 will probably occupy the low 200's mark (the current Ryzen 5 3600 price point). Similarly, the 5800X is already below $500, so it'll be a skinny place for the 5700X to fit into.

They're all fine chips, but AMD should have released them at launch. At this point in the cycle with strong competition from Intel, Zen 4 just around the corner and falling prices of Zen 3, the new release makes no sense aside from grabbing some media headlines.

You should be able to get a 5700X for 5600X money: https://i.imgur.com/FILVygI.png

You should be able to get a 5700X for 5600X RRP money

What are you talking about? The 5700X is coming in at $299 USD, so around $450-ish AUD. The 5600X is $300 AUD. How is it "5600X money"?

          • @p1 ama: comparing the original RRP of the 5600x ($299) to the RRP ($299) of the 5700x when it's released in April, not todays price of the 5600x

@uppitt: Why would you compare it with the original RRP of the 5600X when it's now much cheaper, doesn't make any sense.

              • @p1 ama: I dunno why you would compare like we've said the 5600x is today AUD $300, I was just giving my guess/explanation.

            • @uppitt: $299 USD which translated to an Australian RRP of $469

A 5700X for $469 wouldn't be an attractive price when we have recently seen the 5800X going for ~$450.

For the same price the 12600KF + B660M MSI Mortar bundle is much better, or add $27 for the Aorus Z690M

$235 for an overspecced motherboard on an architecture that's barely overclockable? No thankyou. Get a 5600X for around $300, and a decent B550 mobo for $120. Works out $120 cheaper for the exact same performance.

  • I can see how some people mightn't think this is a good deal, with the Ryzen 5600x possibly being reduced further when the Ryzen 5600 is released. How low will the 5600x go to I have no idea. When the Ryzen 5600 is released, I'd expect it around $300 or maybe more as I can't see any discounting in the beginning. The 5600x was until recently very north of $400, which was more than the original RRP if you look at a crude conversion of AUD/USD $299. Could there be any supply issues? The 5600x though will still have a faster +200Ghz clock speed and an extra 1MB of L3 cache, so it will be slightly faster.

For me I was looking for that exact combination of cpu & mb. The way I see it, I paid $270 for the 5600x and $270 for the motherboard. The motherboard on it's own can be bought for $251.10 today (before delivery & surcharge) and the 5600x is $301.50 (before delivery & surcharge) from SE. You can get the 5600x from ebay mentioned in another thread for $301.50 delivered https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/402542770373 , but I've not seen any cheaper price for the motherboard.

So you if you are just after the cpu you could wait for a 5600 at whatever price it's released at or wait and spend the full US $299 RRP on a 5700x to get 8 cores with a 65W TDP.
