All these deals and I’m just sitting here waiting for a good deal on power supplies hahaha…

    • there were so many like a week ago

    • +1

My gigabyte didn't cause a house fire, yay!

      • ah fellow gamers nexus viewer. hello :)

    • shopping express has store wide 10% off , including power supplies. Just got one RM850x from them.

      • +1

Yep, same. Bought the Corsair RM850x from Shopping Express yesterday with the current 10% discount, bringing the price down to $166, possibly the cheapest in Australia at the moment.

        • I heard RMX850 is multi rail, is that correct?

          • +1

            @[Deactivated]: Single rail.

Multi rail has better protection against something like overuse of power as a whole, though you need to better in managing the power usage across various PC components.

            P.S. I didn't neg you btw.

            • @edfoo: Yeah, I have consistent negger keep trailing me, he/she must have absolute infatuation to me :p

              • +1

@[Deactivated]: Maybe you should consider withholding from commenting in all these GPU deals.

                • @edfoo: Too much at stake. need a balancing against HODL comments too. bottom price has been reached, cannot go lower unfortunately. we also gotta eat you know.

                  • +1

@[Deactivated]: Are you a computer and parts retailer?

                    • @edfoo: No. Even realistically at $800 it will cause massive loss on the industry for brand new 3080.

There will be big market for 2nd hand GPUs later in the year for risk taker, and the pricing here will be wildly varied, I'm not surprised to be able to snag used one for $300-400.

The $800 mark came from the 1080 pricing 4 years back: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/product/asus-rog-strix-geforce-…

In the world without crypto it is possible, but not now.

        • @edfoo Thanks, just bought one as well, should easily power a 3080ti right?

  • -1

On the surface it seems OK, but still more than $200 above $1139 3080 launch price; 3080 was newer then, fewer AMD options and people had more money to spend as well. Pass.

    • +9

And this model was never launched at the entry price. There's blower cards and the like for that tier.

      • -5

Not sure why anyone in current market 2022 anyone would buy some poorly-reviewed blower card for the same money EVGA Black 3080 launched in 2020 for.

        • A niche group that will pop it into a server chassis.

          Wouldn't be many of us.

        • +9
          1. The Original $1139rrp was a joke
          2. There are Founders Cards for RRP (in theory)
          3. There was meant to be shit Blower Cards for not much more or RRP
          4. There were shit 2 fan varieties for more than RRP
          5. The TUF was amongst the highest rated 3080s at launch

So knocking this price…. in this market…. looks like you just wanna complain.

TUF Cards were regularly $1500+ around launch time.

          • -1

@scuderiarmani: If you think they are cheap then go forth, buy one. They will be cheaper next week.

            • @buffalo bill: They are cheaper then launch price….. I don't need one, I gladly bought a TUF 3080 just after launch, even at an inflated price, I don't care…. I've had 18 months use out of it.

              • @scuderiarmani: Out of curiosity … how much did u buy it for and how long after launch ?

                • @CY: Month or two, $1800ish local overpriced Brick and Mortar Store I didn't even know was still in business.

Could see what the trend was, and knew that at even around $1800 it was 'bearable'

Had no GPU at the time. Had sold a 2080 in the leadup.

They had the cheapie 3070s within a month or so around $2k there.

                  • @scuderiarmani: That's not bad. Its like $1 per day for fun between then and now.

If you had no GPU then it was a choice of spend or take up a hobby that didn't consist of a GPU :P

        • +3

I bought one from PCCG at this price yesterday because I am building a new PC now. This TUF 3080 is rated very well in review, not the highest rate 3080 but much better priced. I do agree if you are not in a hurry to get a new GPU, then HODL now.

    • +4

Was about to say, this seems reasonably priced, but let’s not forget this is a 1.5 year old card. That’s like buying an iPhone 12 for $1500. That said, 3080 is still very capable, but save that money for more price drop or something new down the line.

    • +5

The only cards that were at $1139 launch price were Zotac Trinity, EVGA, and the reference model. Literally every other card was at higher RRP, I bought mine on launch when everything was at their MSRP (from non-price jacked sellers)

    • +1

This is identical to what people said just before the 3080 launched and the 2080Ti was going for sub $1000. Either buy soon, or you won't end up with a card at all

      • +4

Unless a second COVID event is coming, complete with stimulus packages and work from home, unlikely.

        • +1

Covid doesn't have much to do with it, they simply still don't have the manufacturing capability to provide the units at launch that are required. After this period now they'll be the same 6-12 month period where the 4000 series will be too hard to come by, and the 3000 series will only be available 2nd hand

          • +3

@cille745: If you believe they will become an asset, by all means buy one. I'm just observing the price is going down, and the economic situation is changing. There's people who have spent a lot of GPU's and have all their life's hopes and dreams in some coin, and they want to believe something else which they are free to do.

    • Was that RRP for the founder edition cards, or this model?

  • +1

Might be decent if this was part of the after pay eBay deal tomorrow

    • Do you need to have ebay plus to avail the afterpay deals?

      • A long time ago it wasn't required and you could have circumvented it by using eBay GCs but I believe recently it's been made mandatory.

  • Thanks for the deal OP.

  • +2

Getting better but still $200 overpriced.
Hold for another month and we will be talking

    • +5

GPU prices are starting to meet the market. Crypto, work from home etc. and demand have already peaked.

Now, people have less to spend with living costs going up and stimulus packages across the world finished.

We are entering a time of people making do, and buying what they need to live and work.

        • Yeah except that's what's happening. GPU prices arn't going up are they…

        • +1

Another pointless reply which criticises other posts but contributes nothing of its own.

This card is a decent price.

  • +2

Good reasonable prices if you are worried they run out of stock soon. Otherwise it won't hurt to wait a week or two to save another $100-$200.

  • no way for me to pay any extra $ for electronic products

  • great price indeed

I bought mine somewhat 1600 aud

But I've used mine 3080 for more than 1 year now

So not sure about my feelings

      • +1

Yeah he got a few bucks a day for a year. It rocked his world.

        • My 3080 earnt between $15/day when I started in Jan 2021 to $5 a day now even average it out it paid for itself twice.

          • @Jazza2400: I've always seen these profitable numbers but none of them seem to account for fees like electricity or tax. How much do you get to put in your pocket?

            • @ChillBro: Atm 70% is profit at current price + difficulty. Waiting for solar installation to improve this. Difficulty has plateaued as of late probably due to ww3

          • @Jazza2400: Same with my 3080 non-LHR legions…100mh/s each at 225w average.

    • +1

$16 dollars a month you lost
      Which isn’t too bad

That’s like 1 hour of Minimum wage after TAX

    • You considering selling yours? I'm not sure what FHR are selling for at the moment but pretty sure I could buy this to replace my identical FHR version and make a few hundred out of it.

      • +1

3080 FHR still selling $2000-$2700 on ebay. You just have to be lucky some miners will buy yours at that price.

No sane gamers would buy 2 year old FHR 3080 for $2k.

        • Yeah for sure, just gotta hope the miners are still biting!

  • +1

I'm kinda assuming the low price is also due to this model being phased out, with the 12GB model replacing the 10GB model. So, not totally expecting all other models to see such a sudden drop in price.

As tempting as it is, my card right now is good enough.

    • Nothing official has stated they've stopped production of the 10gb model. It could well be a clearance which I think is a fantastic price.

    • The 10GB model is GA102 dies with 10 functional memory controllers out of 12. They'll likely be produced still, as there will be some dies with a couple of defective memory controllers that can't make it to the 3090/3080Ti/3080-12G.

  • Should I wait?
    Prices may come down more?
    Currently running vega64

    • You should have gotten a free upgrade by selling your Vega64 while it was hot… but that time has now passed

      • But I needed my Vega 64

    • +1

How long can you wait? 1 week, 2 weeks, 1 month, 3 months or 6 months?

Best choice which most HODLERS doing right now is waiting for 6 months till NVIDIA Laplace is out late Q3 2022 (note that only 4080 and 4090, if you are looking for 4060 4070 probably Q1 2023).

If you just want to wait <3 months, then either Easter deals or EOFY deals.

    • As always, the general advice is buy when you need to. Which really means, if you have a use case where you can get value (benefit) from, then buy what you can reasonably afford. So, put it simply, is there a direct use case, game/application, that you're running right now that could benefit from a nice performance boost … because it's running a little slow right now?

  • +2

The $1139 MSRP/RRP myth needs to die already. That price was only for the FE card, and AIBs are free to price their versions higher. That's why the only cards sold for that much were the very basic models like the eVGA XC3 black. The Tuf was always $1400+ even at launch, the Strix was $1700+. This is an excellent price for the Tuf 3080.

    • +2

But it is not, price will come down further.
      Many reasons why.

      • +2

You can wait till 2077 to get 3080 for free.

        • HODL for a few more months at that point and someone will pay you for the 3080 :P

    • just forget about strix, really not worth the extra money. if anyone going asus, tuf is as good as it gets.
      (strix3080 none LHR owner)

  • +5

HODL if you can. price will be lower in a few weeks.

    • +2

this card is 1050 AUD equivalent in Taiwan (price is lower if bundle sale), and it continues to go down. Just wait a few days to get this card around 1000.

      • +GST and shipping, I will say $1200. HODL!

  • Cheeky of them to list it being LHR in the item description instead of the item listing name but still a good deal irregardless 👍

  • Did we miss the PLE stock, says no stock atm

  • +6

The LHR guy that shows up in the comments section of every gpu post seems really unhinged ngl.

  • -1

Picked up a 3080 12GB version for extra $250.. Worth it for the extra for 8% Performance increase from 10GB IMO

    • +1

8% extra performance for about 20% more money…diminishing returns

      • Yeah that comparison does not look the best.. I really wanted that extra 2GB lol

  • finally , i see the light at the end of the tunnel.

  • Can i play fortnight on high settings with this? (sarcasm post)

    • Minesweeper?
