OzBargain QLD Solar Feed in Tariff (FiT) tracking

So the fantastic deal posted by CrocDundee here https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/538080 has been marked as expired so we are no longer able to discuss the best Feed in Tariff available.

This thread is for people to monitor and discuss what they find in achieving the best possible plan for their power needs, specifically in relation to solar feed in tariffs.

This thread is in specific relation to plans available in Queensland, as per the original deal linked above.
While some may be available in other states, this isn't always the case.

Note that if you don't export a large amount of power, that having a large FiT with higher usages fees might not be the best deal for you.

I will continue to update this main post with any information people find useful, however the latest actually deal should be found within the comments.

      • What do you think happens to 'new' customers, currently with another retailer, wishing to sign up with Origin? Would they be put onto the new system or would they still be signed up under the old system and then be slowly migrated some time later?

I just signed up to Origin's 12c FiT as a new customer from another retailer, a few hours before Croc's update. Retention team could only give me 12c for a 5.9kW setup. Not sure about the System 1.0 vs. System 2.0 though.

    • Just called the retention team and they said this was being provided to people with a smaller system (potentially excluding previous big producers). Said they couldn't get anything higher than 12c for me… YMMV. I might try again in a couple of days if more people are having luck. Cheers Croc and good luck!

      • Croc can you confirm how many kw system your mate has ?
This will give is a guide to see if it’s truly offered only to problem with small systems.
        Thanks

        • Yes - agree that it might be only available for people with smaller systems who export very little. Having said that, the Origin rep was looking to get it for me as well but couldn't because I was on their 'old system' and had to go through a different department. My friend has a 5kw (6.6kw panels) system.

I will be pushing hard for 17c though!

          • +1

@CrocDundee: That’s exactly the same sized system that i have as well.

Just called them. Unfortunately I’m on the old system.
Here’s hoping I get upgraded to the new system sometime soon.

            Thanks Croc Dundee

    • That sounds positive.
After hanging up on the first person I spoke to, I called back and spoke to a lady who said that 12c capped at 14kwh per day was the absolute best, and if I had a screenshot or the friend's name they could maybe look into it a bit more. No mention of an old and new system, and just said that the value of solar feed in isn't there anymore.

After becoming frustrated and spending 30 mins talking to her I said thanks and will contact them closer to June when my plan expires, but interestingly they knew I had called earlier today so they are recording that too. She was extremely firm and would not offer me the 12c uncapped whatsoever and maintained that no offer was available on her system.

I've updated my sheet you originally sent me, and now I am considering Alinta Sports Pack which comes with 12 months of Kayo Sports with an 8c feed-in tariff. I have a 10.5kw system and export around 1500-1800kwh per quarter, and if I go off the 12c tariff Origin offered me it's only around an extra $50 bucks out of my pocket which includes the Kayo (hope that makes sense)

    • Called today and got straight to a retention member but it seems like I have been migrated to the new system as I had to get transferred to someone else. The new person could not offer 12c FIT uncapped, only 12c FIT up to 14kwh per day then 5c FIT. Not a good deals as I export 2300kwh each Quarter! Will try again tomorrow, fingers crossed

      • I think they run your NMI and restrict what you can get based on historical export.

        • yep, that would be the case

          • @Local Bogan: What did you end up doing? I've ring so many times and just can't get anywhere. Ended up getting 12c FIT up to 14kwh then 5c FIT, which is so bad but not really other options.

            • @PR0r: Kept getting the same as you, the lady seemed to have found some better plans but upon checking with Supervisor, could not offer me it

  • Didn't push hard but was told the 17ct offer would only apply to customers who purchased their solar system through Origin.

  • +7

Just did it again! Helped another friend literally just now who is on the new system. He has a 10kw inverter (13.3kw panels) and they accepted him going on the 17c FIT uncapped plan. I helped him get his solar installed just over a year ago and definitely wasn't through Origin.

I asked for a direct number for the "new system" accounts and he gave me this number - 1300 832 854.

Still only available to people in the new system. I haven't been able to get it yet :(

    • +2

I hope this comes available for us in the system!

Still a big kudos to you Croc and the rest of this group for pushing and helping everyone get the best from their solar!

    • @CrocDundee
I tried again through 4 different passes and they said it needed to be Origin panels otherwise it was no good. I'll have to get you to call for me :P

      • +1

Frustrating! I must admit, other friends of mine have tried and had similar responses but for some reason, whenever I call, I manage to get it for them… Not sure why. Just got to speak their lingo I guess?

Are you on their new systems? What size system do you have?

        • I'm apparently still on the old system, running an 8.2kW inverter with 10.73KW of panels.

          • @madseason: Ok - old system best offer I have managed is 12c FIT uncapped. Are you on that at least?

            • +1

@CrocDundee: Yep secured it at the start of the week

              • +1

@madseason: Ok, good. We just wait now til we are transferred over to the new system to hopefully get the 17c FIT offer. I'm in the same boat.

                • @CrocDundee: @CrocDundee , thanks for sharing the new 17c feed in, I've called a few times both 1300 and 1800 numbers you posted but so far no luck, no one is part of the retentions team I've managed to get through to yet… the last person I spoke to also said they are all part of the same team now and don't have a retentions team like they use to (not sure how true that is) but I'll keep trying and hopefully get through to retentions at some stage..

                  • +1

@Jonc: Hi Jonc - You need to read everything that has been written so far in regards to updates.

                    1. Retention's team are only there for people on the old system (Your account starting with a 4000…) but the best offer they can do is 12c FIT uncapped.
                    2. New systems department (your account number starts with A-) are the only ones that look to have access to the 17c FIT offer.

Depending on where your account is located will determine who you need to speak with. Old account number = Retention's team (1800 number). New account number = New Systems department (1300 number).

                    Hopefully that helps.

                    • @CrocDundee: Thanks for the reply, I should have expanded on that a bit as I got my new bill this month and noticed my account now starts with an "A" and has a new billing format as well so I thought I would try calling… I called both 1300 and 1800 but understand I should stop trying the 1800 now (cheers for that)… For some reason, they said the 12c is the best plan available to them still on the 1300 plan but said I should try to call back after the end of financial year as new plans might be out then due to the power increases on the way…

                      • @Jonc: PM me and I'll give you some further info to help.

    • +2

Just spoke with them and I'm on the old system, but he said I should know when I've been moved as I'll get an email saying my account number has changed. So that something to look out for to know when you're moved.

      • does anyone know if the new or old accounts numbers are drastically different? like mine starts now with A- would that be considered new or old?

        • +1

I'm on old and mine starts with 400 and has no letters. So you might be in luck.

          • @zethos: interesting thanks for the heads up Ill give them a call and see how I go.

        • My two friends who I helped get the 17c FIT plan had their accounts start with an A- so yes, I'd say you are on the new system. My account still starts with 400…

Call them up and give it a try!

          • @CrocDundee: Just called through again and got knocked back I tried arguing she said no such thing as a 17fit you cant get it blah blah blah

            • +1

@rororo: Hey mate - send me a PM and I'll walk you through it. Not guaranteed that you will get the 17c FIT plan though as there are other factors in play like system size and how much you export. Doesn't hurt trying though!

    • Just gave the 1300 number a call to check as I was switched over to the new system last night. Not sure if the number goes to a new team now, but she said she can't see the 17c plan, only a 10c plan. Said I'l try again in a few weeks.

  • Can anyone tell me what's the difference between old/new system? And how do we know if we are on old or new system? Thanks!

    • +4

Email from Origin with subject 'Changes to your Origin electricity account'

'Your electricity account number has changed

      Old account number: 40003528xxxx

      New account number: A-B816XXXX'

You should be able to tell from your electricity bill

      • Thanks!

Is the migration only available to certain customers or everyone?

        • Pretty sure it's related to this….

Origin Energy is continuing to scale out its next generation retail business model via its Retail X offshoot with over 850,000 customers now migrated onto the Kraken platform.

In its half year results, Origin revealed 855,000 customers have now been migrated to Kraken.

Origin said it on track to migrate all remaining customers by the end of 2022.

          https://www.itnews.com.au/news/origin-energy-says-kraken-pla…

Looks like everyone and just a matter of time.

  • Hi @crocDundee
Thanks heaps for your posts and efforts but I tried tried and tired after many frustrated trials I can get anywhere.
Would you be able to help me and my family too?
    Cheers.
Been with origin on a 20c uncapped for the last year as a new customer. The drop will mean a significant hit in our budget so anything close to 18c FIT would be ideal.
    Anyone else tried lately?
Thank you all and good luck.

    Anyone else managed to get

    • Just tried once again… They said only if I can provide the name of the operator who provided that 17cFIT deal, there is nothing they can do.
Only 12c capped then drops to 4 cents.
      So frustrating.

      • Hey mate - I've just seen your PM. I'll message you through there. More than happy to help.

        • Hi Croc, could I get some addtional details via PM please?

        • Hey Croc, managed to get through to a nice lady that found some better offers but couldn't get approval to give them to me, any tips on your end? Sent you a PM

          • @Local Bogan: Just called through they were only offering 12c then lowering to 5c or something couldn't really understand said I will call back with more information.

  • You are a legend! Thank you

  • I’m hearing 10 or 11 cents max FiT (capped 14 kWh) when I call them up. Depending on my profile.

No chance of getting the 17. Will try again another time. Keep saying that my panels need to be origin installed.

    • Called again and got told that I feed in too much for the 17c discount. Sounds like first time around I didn’t get retentions.

He explicitly said that the 17c offer is real and can be offered to people whose panels are not done by Origin, but the feed in has to be low / system has to be small for retentions to have it enabled as an offer in their system. It then also needs to be approved by billing or something.

      Did get offered 12c uncapped.

      22.67 usage
      112.90 daily
      6.97c solar metering

      Gst inc

Or the 5c fit but with 23% discount on other rates.

      • On average how much do you feed in?
or how big of a system do you have?

        • Since 1 October I have fed in an average of 23 kWh per day.

I only self consume about 3 kWh per day, and import about 2 kWh.

          My system is 6.3 kW.

  • +1

My experience (Sunshine Coast QLD) - rang the 1800 retentions team, got Caz, who "didn't know about the 17c FIT". She said she needed to speak to managers, and rang back 15mins later with approval to use it. Capped at 14kWh per day but I export average of 17kwh so works out better on this than the 12c uncapped.

General Usage - 22.671 cents per kWh
Daily Supply - 112.904 cents per day
Daily Supply Solar - 6.700 cents per day
FIT - A higher feed-in tariff of 17.00 c/kWh (incl GST) until you export more than 14 kWh per day, on average, over the
    billing period; and
    • After that, our standard feed-in tariff of 5.00 c/kWh (incl GST) applies for the rest of the billing period. Our
standard feed-in tariff is subject to change by notice.

    • Interesting when I called the guy had no idea but said if I can get more info to call back.

    • Does your account number start with an a?

      • mine does (not sure if you are asking me)

        • Either person. Just checking if the 17c fit was even going to be an option for you both without the account change.

      • Yes it does

  • +1

Just got an email update saying that my account has been changed to new account starting with "A"!
Will give them a call for the 17c…

    • What size system are you on?

    • How did you go? I called last week after getting an update and the retentions team told me they couldn't do that for me

  • Rang today on the 1300 number as I am on the new billing account and spoke to someone, who mentioned they were a Team Leader.

He said that he could not see any 17c FiT plans and that he wasn't sure how others had been able to get onto it.

I provided him with further information, based on the comments above that it was a 17c uncapped plan, that may or may not need approval to get on, however he stated that he couldn't even see the plan to offer it to me.

    I've got a 6kw system FWIW.

Guess I'll try again next week, but would appreciate any other info that anyone can share if you manage to get onto it.

    • +1

Just have to get the right person who knows what they are doing and are willing to help. This 'team leader' is either not being honest with you, or they have no idea and need to look at their offers again. The 17c FIT plan apparently says in their system - "Do not touch". They need to get approval from their supervisor to put people on that plan. I have spoken to 3 separate reps personally and others now that I've helped have also got approval from different reps. So it is definitely there, just have to get the right person.

I no longer argue with them, I just hang up and call again til I get someone who actually helps.

      • Thanks @CrocDundee.

Yea, I didn't push it too hard with him. It was clear he wasn't going to offer it, or wasn't able to, so will keep trying!

        • Yeah, good plan. I'm currently on the phone with them now to help another friend of mine :)

          • @CrocDundee: Were you able to secure this deal for your friend today?

            • @jryd: Was actually comparing the two offers when speaking with Origin and it was better for him to stay on his current 15c FIT plan (23% discount off usage and supply) so didn't actually transfer over to the 17c FIT plan.

              • +1

@CrocDundee: Yeah if import about 8kWh a day and export 40kWh that's about where the plans swap over in which is better.

              • @CrocDundee: @CrodDundee I'm also on the 15c FIT plan with 23% discount off usage and supply, expiring next month.

Do you know if this plan can be renewed? I understand the 17c FIT plan comes with no discount and as I have a small system (5.5 inverter) I'd rather go for a lower FIT and high discount…

PS I'm on the new system (account no. starting with A)

                • @bauser99: No, not that I have seen, unfortunately. When you offer runs out you're probably better off trying to get the 17c FIT plan compared to the 5c FIT and 23% discount.

                  • @CrocDundee: I see - actually I just received this morning a "Plan ending" email from Origin informing my plan ends next month and if I do nothing I will be moved automatically onto a new "Origin Solar Boost" plan with the same electricity charges you listed below but with a FIT of only 10c/kWh until I export more than 14 kWh per day, on average, over the billing period; and after that 5c/kWh (incl GST) for the rest of the billing period.

So I guess the only space to negotiate is to try the 1800 number and ask to bump the FIT up to 17c… with no options to negotiate a discount on the electricity charges, right?

                    • @bauser99: Yeah, that is their standard rate that they put people on if they don't negotiate a better offer.

If on the new system (account number starting with A-) then the 1800 number won't help you. You'll need to call the new systems department number 1300 to negotiate the 17c plan.

                      • @CrocDundee: Will do thank you - and just to make sure, it sounds like if you get the 17c plan there's no wiggle room for a discount on charges at the same time?

                        • @bauser99: Yeah, that's correct. I'm just hoping I can get it when I transfer to their new systems.

                          • @CrocDundee: I called today (1300 832 854) but was told there's no such a thing as a 17c FIT plan.

Will try again later today - do you know if there's a plan ID/Number I could quote?

                          • @CrocDundee: Tried again and spoke to a supervisor, apparently the 17c FIT is gone for good :(

                            • @bauser99: That is a pity. What did you get offered instead?

                              • +1

@cannibal: Apparently best on offer now is 10c FIT but I was told they are working at new plans that will be out in July… with this in mind I’d say consumption rates will be higher so perhaps worthwhile fixing now but I don’t think you can get double digit FIT in conjunction with fixed rates anywhere :(

                                • @bauser99: Whenever I call, they keep telling me the best they can offer is 12c FIT uncapped. Until I am on their new systems, that is all they are offering me.

                                  • @CrocDundee: I’m trying to figure out if I should lock something in now before consumption rates go up in July. Are you aware of any FIXED rates that include a decent FIT?

                                    • @bauser99: Unfortunately, only FIT rates are locked for the 12 months. All electricity/supply charges can change at any time and they will allow you the option to leave if you find a better deal. I think they have to give you a certain amount of notice before changing the prices though.

      • @CrocDundee

If there is a person or a plan number that could be quoted by others, it would be most helpful!

        • I've taken a screenshot of the 17c FIT offer and the electricity charges associated with that plan that I did for my friend a couple of weeks ago.

Just so people know, I am not able to get this plan… yet! Until I have migrated over to the new system, I don't have access to it. I've personally spoken to three different Origin Reps who work in the new systems department and have been able to get them to offer this plan.
          1. Emma
          2. Trent
          3. Raji

All three reps saw the plan and agreed with me when I said it says, "do not touch". They then spoke with their supervisors who gave them permission to offer the plan to my friends.

          • @CrocDundee: Thank you very much, will see if I can get the same.
PS: Not using Origin panels though.

            • @Marty156: 100% NOT purchased Solar through Origin. One went through the same company I did several years ago and the other two went through a company I recommended at the time (and still highly recommend!) that had no ties to Origin.

  • +2

I rang 1800 557 700 today again (tried last week and was told no by 2 different agents). Spoke with a lady and told her my friend was on this 17c plan and he keeps rubbing it i my face. She asked if my friend had panels from Origin and I said no, we installed ours together and he definitely doesn't have Origin panels.

She put me on hold to speak to a supervisor an at this rate, I was thinking that I'm going to get another rejection. She came back saying basically my friend wasn't meant to get this deal as it's only for people with Origin panels, however as a once off, she'll put me on this deal too for a year. Score!!!

Just did some quick maths and my last quarter would have gone from $143.38 down to $18.99 on this new FiT!

    • Nice work! Just checking what size system you have installed?

Also - is your account on the new system or old system? Does it start with A-

      • I have a 10.73kW system and yes I've been migrated to the new system which starts with an A. I got the email last week about it so that's when I started trying to call

  • Day two of calling and I got slightly closer.

Spoke to a different rep today and was offered 14c FiT as long as you export more than 7kW across the entire billing period.

The lady confirmed that she could definitely see the 17c FiT and it was marked as "do not touch", but after speaking with a supervisor was not able to offer it to me.

I pressed her more, considering people like @CrocDundee seem to have been in a position where they could secure it as early as yesterday and was told it was simply something she couldn't offer.

She mentioned it might be something they offer to customers who are actively leaving Origin as a means to keep them, but that from her conversation with her supervisor and her unsderstanding in general it wasn't something that they should be offering in any case.
She went on to share, that those that do get offered the 17c FiT might be contacted down the line that its no longer a plan they can be offered and dropped to 14c.

I pointed out the inconsistency of how and when this is applied based on "luck of the draw" and that its ludicrous they might offer it to people who are leaving, but not loyal customers looking for an upgrade before leaving for elsewhere but no amount of pushing made a difference; i assume her hands are tied given her supervisor said no.

I've taken the 14c for today as it's still 1c higher than my previous deal, but will keep trying each day with someone different.

    • What do you mean more than 7 kW across the billing period?

      • The way it was explained was that I needed to export a minimum of 7kW over the billing period to quality for the 14c FiT.

My billing period is quarterly, so over the course of 3 months I need to export a minimum of 7kW; something I'd easily do within a day.

        • There's a bit of a difference between 7 kW and kWh. kW is a measure of rate (like Mbps) and the second is a measure of volume (like GB).

If I were to guess the minimum is 7 kWh or there is some other technicality in the wording.

          • @Nuggets: Does she mean as long as the inverter isnt larger than 7kW, that would make more sense

          • @Nuggets: I was honestly a little confused, but there is no mention of it in my contract anyway. Additionally, she said that based on my previous invoices, I was well and truly above the minimum so it wouLdn't even be a concern.

  • Has anyone had luck moving back to Origin from another provider and get on the 17c plan? I switched from Origin to AGL last year and I've called origin retention team a couple times and had been offered 12c as their best offer to bring me back. I'm on 10kw inverter and have gas with origin as well with that gas account number starting with an A.

    • I am going to try to do that soon. Was that 12c offer capped?

      • +1

Nope, the offer was uncapped. No incentive for me to move over as AGL is also 12c uncapped

  • Moved my parents up for Origin yesterday after receiving an email from Reamped advising to change energy providers due to price increases. Signed them up with Origin to the 10c capped at 14kW but noticed the new account number provided starts with 4000

  • +1

We were just moved off the 20c AGL FIT after two years, to:

    FIT: 12c (uncapped, I think)
    Usage charge: 22.088c/kWh (was 27.097c)
    Supply charge: 120.197c/day (was 108.900c)
    Meter charge: 7c/day (unchanged)

    ** including GST

Now, I just plugged that into my spreadsheet and compared it to my most recent (and last) bill that was on the 20c FIT and it actually comes back at 27c cheaper. Interesting.

    • Usage charge: 22.088c/kWh (was 27.097c)
      Supply charge: 120.197c/day (was 108.900c)
      Meter charge: 7c/day (unchanged)

Are these rates variable or fixed for 12 months?

  • Soooo
    A sad update.
I’m still on the old account number 4***
Signed up 12 months for 12c FIT uncapped back in April. Got a notice for rate Raise today. Definitely fish for the 17c if possible.

Your Charges as at 1 July 2022

    Supply Charge 129.8330c”

  • I can no longer get through to the retention team on the 1800 number. All available options end up with the "You've called us outside our normal operating hours. Please call back." voice message. I have been trying since Monday.

    • I know they were fazing out the rentention's team so this could be the case that they no longer have a 'retention's team'…

Side note - I spoke with the New Systems department on Wednesday and they are telling me that the 17c FIT offer has been removed and no longer available. The best they can offer is 12c FIT Capped at 14KWh per day. Not good!

Lastly, just got an email from Origin letting me know of the increase in usage and supply charge.
