LG C1 83" OLED83C1PTA Self Lit OLED 4K Ultra HD Smart TV (2021) $6750 (Free Delivery for Selected Cities) @ Appliance Central

1090

Been monitoring the prices since last year and possibly the cheapest it will ever get before the C2 2022 OLED models land on our shores. Historically was only $110 cheaper than this back in December last year.

Personally paid $6,600 2 weeks ago at TGG including delivery in Sydney after some negotiations so this isn't too bad of a deal I reckon.

  • Not available in VIC from what I can see.

  • This is 100% gonna be my next TV, or maybe 77 inch if it drops back to $5000

    • +31

Great input. More of this please

    • -5

      Nah it ain't.

They're getting rid of non QD displays which will be the default in 12 to 24 months

      • Explain please?

        • +2

QD OLED is a newer kind of OLED panel made by Samsung. Way more efficient, less prone to burn in, and richer colours. Google QD OLED to see how it's different to W-OLED (LG models).

Since QD OLED is Samsung's tech I'm not sure how quick TV panels will get replaced with them, haven't seen any QD OLED TVs announced/demoed. They currently have pretty low yields so might be difficult for them to make larger TV sized panels. Also not sure if LG will be able to make them.

          • @Alzori: Sadly largest is only 65" at the moment. So need to wait another year or two

      • I'm personally waiting for MicroLED. All the benefits of OLED but brighter and without risk of burn-in.

      • +4

No they aren't getting rid of anything. QD-OLED is Samsung tech, people carrying on like it is revolutionary are mistaken, sure it has benefits though. W-OLED is LG tech, and is currently cheaper due to being a mature tech. TV manufactures will continue buying WOLED panels from LG for years, and LG will continue to update or advance their own panel tech. It's like how both IPS and VA forms of LCD co-exist in the panel industry. Also many people fail to realize both QD-OLED and W-OLED are still inferior tech as far as display purity to the simple and original form of RGB-OLED that phones have, at least pre-Pentile layout. But that would be cost prohibitive and probably very low yield for TV sizes.

        • W-OLED is dead, #$% burn in.

      • +2

Interesting, do you pull on the sides of the 65" QD-OLED and it becomes 83"?

        • No, you wait 24 months and get QD-OLED and hold on strong with your plasma instead!

          • @hamwhisperer: Keen to see an 83" QD-OLED in 24 months but may be a tad optimistic given we're only just reaching the point of pricing being released for 65". Long way to go in the manufacturing process for larger panels, not to mention affordable.

Call TGG and tell them the 77 is 4930 at appliance central and harvey norman have it for 5900 with a $1000 gift card.

That's all I did yesterday and they gave it to me for 4900, receive it on Tuesday.

    • What? 77 inch is already sub $5k

  • Wanted to buy but the family room has lots of windows

    • +8

Buy a new house and get this OLED :)

More seriously - I find it performs well in bright rooms. If you’re anything like me, a higher percentage of your viewing will be under cover of darkness anyway.

      • Performance is a relative measure, and as such, no, it does not perform well in bright rooms.

It is literally the dimmest large screen format you can buy. QLED blows OLED out the water in anything but a properly dark room and it's not even close.

    • Get this OLED then with its industry leading anti-reflective filter.

Some run of the mill LCD is going to reflect far more ambient light than this will.

    • +1

      Cover the windows with OLEDS

Buy some blinds and put them up ?

    • Get some diffused blinds?

  • +1

If you managed to get it for 6600 in store this probably isn’t that good of a deal ?

    • I really wonder what the margins on these TV's are. I managed to get a Sony 55 inch oled (A80J) from the goodguys for $2200 delivered via negotiations, and paid with gift cards that I also got cash back on. It was listed for $2695 on their website at the time.

      • -2

A couple of years back 55" OLEDs could be bought for under $1700 with haggling or sales

        • Not really useful without knowing the exchange rate.

        • I got my 65" B8 for $1800! (Though that was helped by a price error lol)

      • Staff price directly through LG is 50% off RRP and even then they said they're still making money after shipping etc.

    • A seasoned OZBers will know what to do ie. use this price and get TGG, BL or HN to haggle a better price or at least price beat it. The store I went to for mine didn't ask for a proof when I told them another retailer (ApplianceCentral) has this same model advertised for $7,050 then.

      • The store I went to for mine didn't ask for a proof

Most likely because they are aware already from previous buyers haggling on price.

        • +1

Pretty sure this is universally referred to as "negotiating". I'd imagine most stores are familiar with the practice.

  • My Sony kd65a1 (Oled) has horrendous burn in after 4 years.

    • -2

Try telling anyone on Reddit that burn in exists at all. They'll call you a liar. No such thing as burn in on OLED

    • Substantial improvements to burn in were made in 2018 and improved further every year since.

Unfortunately you got the last one that burns in.

      • -1

        Lol

        Ok

Except for the people with year old models with burn in

        It happens.

  • +9

Paid 6350 at goodguys recently. Email a bunch of stores. 2 of 10 said yes to this price

    • +2

      Good work lad!!

      • +8

All I did was copy/paste same email to 10 local stores from their website. A few didn't reply, some said no, some got close, 2 said yes, 1 said yes with free delivery. Avoids going in FTF and wasting time.

        • This is the easiest and one of most effective ways to get the price you want.

        • +1

Thats amazing! Any chance you can share that email, either here or pm me? thanks!

          • +3

@yeviisxc: Dear TGG, Can you sell me the 83" LG OLED for $6,350 including delivery?

            Many thanks

            2pro4sho

    • -1

Can you send please share that email as well? Thanks!

      • +2

Dear TGG, Can you sell me the 83" LG OLED for $6,350 including delivery?

        Many thanks

        2pro4sho

    • -2

Or if you can share the receipt that would be awesome, and did you email only TGG stores?

      • -4

I'm not sharing my invoice with personal information on it lol. Makes no difference to price matching anyways. You need to discuss with local stores as they are franchises.

        • Can always blank out your details to help out the OZB community? $6,350 is definitely the best I have seen!

          • -5

@wingzee: I'm not comfortable with that. I've already provided more than enough information to help the community. Stores are under no obligation to price match. Ask for the price you're willing to pay, most will say no, some will say yes.

    • -1

Yes can you please share the email you sent to TGG? Thank you!

      • -4

I'm looking at x item, I'm prepared to pay x today. No fuss sale. My contact details are x.

As OLED tvs get larger, projectors will become obsolete

    • +4

A normal lcd is already technically better than a projector and it's been out for decades, what's the difference now?

Price for the size is why projectors are still here, people aren't cross shopping those for oleds. I doubt you'll see 120"+ lcds or oleds soon for $1500 or under, logistics of a giant thin glass of that size is a nightmare.

    • +1

Agreed, and I say that as an JVC NX7 owner. Eventually as prices drop for the larger model OLEDS. However the upcoming 97" OLED is going to be priced at 25,000Euro or around $37,000 Australia so it may still be a few years off for larger screen sizes (that projectors fill) to become affordable.

Unless you need a truly larger image 120" plus in a dedicated theater room or 2:35.1 Scope screen then projectors are still the answer, it's just that they become more of an niche.

      • You say that as a non-laser projector owner. Which are a step above.

        • I am aware and also double the price of the NX line.

          • @Spizz: Apologies, you said "as a x owner" as though "x" was impressive. In the grand scheme of projectors, it's not. Whereas OLED is oft considered to be at the peak of it's technology. I didn't think it was an apples to apples comparison.

            • @[Deactivated]: A couple of things the NX7 is impressive. The NZ line is an incrementale upgrade (according to Kris Deering) And the need to go to the NZ line as in NZ8/NZ9 at $24,999 and $45,999 just goes to proves the point that OLED in larger size will eventually replace projectors in some instances.

My main TV screen in 2020: 55inch
My main TV screen in 2022: 6.8inch (iphone pro max)

  • -8

Screen burns slowly year on year. Need to be replaced after 4 years.

    • +2

I've had my last OLED for 3 years. No burn in. Your miles may vary.

    • +2

B7 over here still going strong 💪🏻

      • Watch a magenta screen video on YouTube to see the burns.

        • +1

          c6 still no burn

        • Five year old C7 used daily, no burn-in here either. Grey uniformity still very good too.

        • If u cant see a burn in on ur screen, dont bother looking for one. Coz if u see one, u cant unsee it.

    • It doesn't.

The individual diode becomes weaker over use and time, if the the displayed colours rotates over time it won't be noticable as it all dims fairly evenly. While backlights slowly fade on LED backlights creating an overall dimmer picture, the same will happen with OLEDs as long as a constant still image isn't shown. Thanks to OLEDs becoming stronger and technlogies built into TV's that rotate colours around, and shifting images slightly, they can last a very long time.

      • Damn you guys are lucky this is what I am dealing with, 4r old c7, 65".

        • +1

That looks pretty horrible, pixel refresher doesn't work? OLED technology is constantly improving, latest ones are even better than the C8 I'm using. People call it burn in, and that is fine, but some pixels are weaker than others. It would be great if pixel refresher helped your situation.

        • +3

Email lg support with your receipt and serial number and tell them you want it replaced or a new panel put in under ACL and quote the expected life of a high end tv should be more than 4 years etc..

    • 8000 hrs

      No burn in

      C9

  • -5

Only problem with the C1 is the processor….
New reviews and tech sites are reporting the C2's new Processor blows the old model out the water in terms of picture clarity, brightness and vibrancy

    • -3

all processors are equal. what exactly are you 'processing' on a 4k source? rofl stupid marketing. brightness, clarity, vibrancy are properties of the panel. nothing to do with a 'processor'. learn your tech ppls.

      • The processor can push highlights on a 4k hdr source…and the processor is invaluable when it comes to upscaling, pushing brightness in highlight details and motion…..the G2 and C2 are a generational leap and you get a guaranteed EVO panel unlike the C1 which had a software restriction even on units with an EVO…….most consumers aren't watching content at 4k…its predominantly 1080i/p like free to air, sports and general viewing blown up on a 4k display which can look awful without good upscaling from the processor especially on a panel this size

    • -4

“Processor blows the old model out the water in terms of picture clarity, brightness and vibrancy”

      Hahahahahahah…..hahahahahahhahaa……haha.

      Delinquent indeed.

      • The Sony's XR cognitive Processor is a prime example what a processor can achieve and from initial reports this year's C2 and G2(with added heatsink) have finally caught up

    • +1

Watched a DVD on my C8 last week, amazed at how good it looked, the gen. 4 version on the C1 boasts being faster and having better upscaling technology. Not sure people need to worry about that being behind on the C2.

  • -3

You can't base judgement without seeing or owning something yourself….having owned both a C1 and now a Sony A90J I can definitely see the leap a processor is capable of especially in clarity and detail
The LG C1 just isn't there especially watching 1080i free to air content on a 83" size no less…..
    Ignorance is bliss I guess

    • +3

Sport aside who watches F2A content these days anyway. I don’t get out of bed for anything less than 4K. Haha! ;)

The Sony is quite a jump in price from the LG isn’t it? Bang for buck has to be the LG.

If I’m wrong, happy to be corrected.

      • -1

The vast majority don't just watch pristine native 4k content..even YouTube and streaming services like Netflix use compression on 4k content ….
Again it's also about pushing highlight details and motion handling….an LG pushes brightness across the board and lifts the entire picture,a Sony can push brightness in highlights only with its processor especially on the A90J with a heatsink

      • +2

Delinquent was trying to pint out the inferiority of c1 processor compared to the sony hes got or C2, as stated on his above comment as well. But (profanity) above bagged him for pointing that out. Coz they cant afford c2 at this stage, and dont like tp hear they want an inf tv at this point.

        • -1

no its just stupid. processors have solved the basics of bicubic interpolation for 30 years now. unless you like your image screwed around with (highlights? whi gives a (profanity) about fake highlights and fake boobs?)
if you want good scaling because you watch shit sources for some reason, you can get AI scaling on gaming machines now, and until tvs are doing that, that they are not really going to look any different to each other.

          • +1

@compfam: So u have seen how C2 performed? Of course u havent.

  • +1

Great deal, but personally I wouldn't be buying the non-evo C1 with C2s around the corner.

    • All C1 have been evo's since Nov last year

      • +1

They have a software restriction so your not getting the benefits of an EVO…the EVO Sony A80J's did not have this software restriction like the C1

        • The hack yes but it's still an Evo panel so should last longer and work better over time

          • @FeZZa21: Why would you spend almost $7000 on a TV to hack it and void any warranty

            • @[Deactivated]: They've blocked the hack and the hack doesnt blow up the TV anyway, fully reversible for warranty as well

              • @FeZZa21: Fully reversible?
You can see what firmware it ran in the service menu history…anyone can buy a service remote and check to see too if you plan on selling it in the second hand market….without a heatsink or abl/absl algorithm that works with EVO in mind there's the potential for reduced longevity,burn-in and damage to the panel

                • @[Deactivated]: The hack doesnt involve changing the firmware, but a single setting in it, which can be changed back

                  • @FeZZa21: Why would you possibly damage your panel to squeeze more brightness?
I've already mentioned the processor and Abl/Absl algorithm work in conjunction to the panel's capabilities…pushing it too hard may damage it…the G1 has a different algorithm to work in conjunction with EVO

  • How is the sound performance of this TV?

    • I have a ps5 and series x hooked up my 65 inch C1 and the cinema option in the sound settings is pretty decent

    • +1

      Nowhere near the Sony A80J

  • Maybe it'll be possible to do an online pricematch with this at HN on Monday for WA customers? Or could do a physical TGG pricematch by showing them the appliance central link.
