I'm not familiar with the processor model but with RAM 2GB.
I got one with same ram capacity but older processor… now the respond is very slow… almost unusable unless you have to be extremely patient to wait on the loading…

    any idea how it performs?

    • +1

My experience has been they perform OK out of the box, but after enough Google updates, they become very slow.

What do you use yours for? I would not be buying this for general web browsing.
But for videos, eBooks and a few games, you'll get by.

      • I've offloaded mine to the kids… mainly browsing youtube for video or MV now I guess…

In my experience it's go hard or go home with these devices - either get an ipad for $500 or don't even bother

    • Comparing a $98 tablet let alone one for $68 after cashback to a $500 iPad? What a ridiculous comparison.

      • +6

He's not comparing, he's saying a tablet under $500 is not worth buying

        • -3

          That's silly too.

        • Whilst i'd agree that these probably aren't worth going for, you can get good tablets for sub$500. I have a Lenovo P11 that I got for $250ish about 6 Months ago and it has been flawless for everything i want it for. Web-browsing in bed, Video streaming, remote control of my cameras when i'm doing photo/video shoots, it has performed fine for all of that.

        • @Ryanek Aren't they/he/she saying to buy an iPad for $500.

      • +1

It's not even a cashback. You still need to spend those $30 at HN.

        • -1

          Oh that's extra sucky then.

      • I ordered this but also own IPad Air 3 (cost me over $600) and other older Samsungs. I ordered one to use just as an ereader because it’s super light and small.

  • Not bad if you can find something useful to discount from HN. Wouldn't expect much from the tablet though - why they hell are they still putting Micro USB on a new device? As OP said, should make a decent basics tablet for web and e-reading. Doubt you'll have much fun playing games.

  • I have the M8. It's not great. It's ok if you have a really little kid that is just going to play some simple games on it or something. Once you're in a game it's okay, but navigating the interface is a nightmare. You even have to wait a few seconds for the keyboard to appear.

  • Would this be able to run Google Maps?
It has a GPS, so mount in the car, and avoid fines for touching your phone?

    • You can be fined for touching a tablet when behind the wheel, and it's easier to mount a phone to a air vent or windscreen without blocking your view of the road ahead.

Google Maps also benefits from an always-online device with cellular data connection, since it can tell you if there are traffic jams and road closures.

      • Just get this one from Clear instead

        • 10" is too big to mount on my dash.

For data, I can set my phone to turn on the wifi hotspot when in the car.

    • +1

Yes I use this a GPS unit for a P plater in the house

  • +2

Wouldn't touch a tablet under 4gb for future proof purposes

  • What’s the version of OS.
That resolution is so low.. I’m not even sure it would make a decent wall kiosk… maybe

    • Android 11 and yeah if you have functioning eyeballs, it's not great for anything other than basic data entry

  • What is this ewaste?

  • We have a few of these at work for running a couple of apps. Not very impressed.
They come loaded with all the Google/YouTube Kids garbage so uninstall/disable that stuff first off.

They seem to be aimed at parents wanting a cheap tablet for the kids at dinner…

  • Thinking of buying this tablet as an e-reader. I have Kindle which I like, and was considering buying Kobo few days ago which is sadly not available anymore with discount.
Then I thought why not to try 7" tablet, as I sometimes use my 10.5" tablet for reading with no issues to my eyes, but it's just too big.
Someone talk me out of this idea? :)

    • I've got a kindle to read books, and considering an android tablet to read magazines and manga, hence would prefer 10"
Wouldn't 7" be too small for colour content, and wouldn't an e-reader better for B&W content?
I don't see why you need a third option in your case?

      • Nah, 7" should be just fine, as I don't need it for colour content, but instead I can hold it with one hand which is difficult with 10.5".
I think I can spend $68 just to try, though don't want to buy it and immediately realise that there is some obvious reason why I can't use it as e-reader. 2GB is an issue obviously, but shouldn't be a too big issue if I'm going to only use 1-2 apps.

        • +1

Note that the $30 are not a cashback.
You still need to spend $98, and then find something else to spend the $30 on (nice try Gerry)

    • +1

I have 3 of these at home, 2 for back ups because I've been known to kill a tablet once a year from dropping them in water. I use them to read digital books or novels while I use the exercise bike or watch video files while I'm cleaning around the house (hence me putting it on precarious places). The good thing about them is that they easily fit in my hand so I don't drop them easily. Kindle requires the books/novels in a certain format and can't read HTML so this is my go-to. I also fashioned myself a tablet stand (like a small version of Ikea Vivalla tablet stand, but half the width) by folding sheet metal and use it to hook the tablet around various spots in the house :D

32 Gb SD cards sells for less than $10 nowadays and plenty space for video files and more than enough for any epub files.

      • Sounds like no issues with using it as a reader? Thanks loki!

This is android go, which is ok for lower spec. The screen actually is not as bad as the resolution stated when you see in person. The worst part is it's Gerry's.

    • The worst part is it's Gerry's.

Not giving that grub Gerry a cent of my money after the shenanigans he pulled with the gst and the pandemic payouts.
