Also we only have 20 units of the Dell P2214H 22", the rest will be the following … 1680x1080 6ms 16:10 VGA DVI

Yuck! You should just say "only 20 units".

    • +5

Hi! I wrote that to explain the difference in Monitors, but they will be a generic mix of Dell 22" Monitors with all the same outputs.

      • +4

So they'll all be FHD DisplayPort now? That's good value.

    • +2

      And go wash your hands.

  • +12

That's a pretty damn good WFH office bundle right there at an awesome price point.

  • +7

Word of warning: I tried reaching out to these guys for support via email and Facebook message. Got no reply both times. Can’t say I would order from them again.

    • +12

Hey! sorry to hear. Even though we do get a tonne of messages through especially with these optiplex sales, its not good enough that someone got missed. Private message your details and ill follow it up with the team, see if i can sort it out.

      • I too bought a similar machine on the recent Dell refurb sale received last week via delivery. Can you DM me as well as I have 2 issues that need to be resolved.

  • +10

decent computer, it crosses the threshold of "not frustrating to use" that so many low tier laptops don't. I always feel sorry for those who don't really know about desktops and just use a laptop because they are so ubiquitous. It will easily do word processing, browsing, photos and the like. Add a cheap GPU and you have a 1080p machine similar to an xbox one.

    • Who? Me?

      • Yes. Legitimate question based on the other commenter

    • +1

Wow that thread is crazy. Can’t believe he refunded the buyer, buyer even admitted they had a full spec list on the ad. Not sure what relevance that thread has to this post though.

      • I think it's cause it's old gear. Pretty pointless though.

      • The other commenter seems to think the seller in the other thread is this same OP 🤷‍♂️

        • I think it was a joke

        • +4

Yeah I'm not gonna read all that but no it's only Old us at FusetechAU not Facebook

          • @FuseTechAu: Thanks for confirming.
Btw - you should get that other comment removed that links to you

Must say I received an excellent response when I notified them of the incorrect cable they had sent.

  • Good for cities skylines ?

  • Any way to upgrade the video card without spending a fortune? I know people like the low price 1050 and 1650 but they are so hard to find!

      • +4

Dell optiplex 3040 SFF can't use a double slot GPU card, as the PCIe x16 slot is right next to the power supply.
I believe that the best you can do is to put a low profile single slot GT 1030 in it.

    • +1

A GT 1030 is a more affordable card. If you’re using it for gaming, check out some benchmarks to see if it meets your needs. Just be careful not to purchase the crippled DDR4 version, the GDDR5 version is about twice the performance of it

  • Can I add a 2.5 inch hard drive into the computer?

  • +1

Must be a really outdated system.

The monitor is very very old

    • +2

      Old but certainly not outdated.

      • -2

I had HDMI from 2010 or earlier.

        • +2

1920 x 1080 @ 60Hz is still an office standard, the lack of HDMI doesn't mean much if it has DisplayPort. The computer has DisplayPort 1.2, which data throughput matches HDMI 2.0, and the monitor listed has DisplayPort too, so all good.

    • The specs on this are overkill for any home user, aside from gaming

      • -4

        I must disagree

Even a new current generation very low spec entry-level pc outperforms a really old (5 years plus) high spec PC as the mainboard and other components are few generations newer and work much faster.

        • +8

No, for a home user the gains of new hardware would hardly be noticeable. Really the only upgrades over this would be a faster CPU and a nvme SSD. Unless you are gaming, the experienced performance would be negligible.

Also, your comment about HDMI being obsolete doesn't mean shit. I use HDMI on my second screen on my gaming PC. It doesn't do 144hz but for this PC, 60hz is absolutely fine

          https://www.cpubenchmark.net/compare/Intel-i5-6500-vs-Intel-…

According to cpu benchmark the CPU in the very old average spec pc in deal benchmarks over 3 times a new very low spec entry level pc. Unless I picked the wrong CPU…

        • +2

I'm still using the i5 6500 which I got in 2016. Works fine, I haven't noticed any slow down since I first got it - granted I do have 16GB RAM and an nvme drive. CPU performance has already reached the point where everyday tasks (streaming 1080p videos on youtube, netflix, etc and having 20+ tabs open in Chrome, etc) is trivial.

You'd only need a better CPU if you want to play modern games or do other specialist tasks faster like encoding videos, etc. Personally, I only play SC2 and AoE4 so I'm still content with this CPU (and my GTX 960). Also handles software development fine (running multiple docker containers with postgres, react apps, nodejs and python servers with hot load + IDEs like VSCode with a large typescript project or Intellij with a Java project show code hints smoothly).

          • @quanticism: I'm using the same CPU. Originally had 16GB of RAM, but recently upgraded to 32GB.

I don't use it for gaming at all. Mine is a pseudo HTPC. Watch a lot of video, including 4K. Found it was struggling a little with 16GB of RAM with 4K (1080p, no problem). Much better since upgrading to 32GB.

Also use it for web browsing, Excel, etc. Pretty snappy and handles everything comfortably. My only concern would be the 8GB of RAM. If you're looking at buying it, I'd suggest bumping it up to at least 16GB.

      • so it's a good machine then for office work / wfh ?

        • -8

Depends on your budget - No, unless you have a really low budget

          • +8

@utsc: Lmao ignore him banzini. This is a good deal and would be fine for years as an office computer. The only thing you are potentially missing is official windows 11 support but windows 10 has a few years left anyway

        • Yes, should be fine. For a comparison I use an older Lenovo laptop (Core I7-3632QM) which runs Windows 10 Pro and Office 2019 without a hitch. I do have 16GB in that machine (maxed out RAM) but 8 GB is suitable for most things Office related these days unless you do very heavy powerpoint in which case you should be speccing more RAM at least. /

This machine is 6th Gen Intel and by the time you might need a Windows 11 machine there will be used Intel 8th and 9th Gen (which do have official Windows 11 support).

As for gaming this will let you game older stuff like retro gaming and 16 bit emulation (i.e. Sega Genesis). Just don't expect any real gaming performance for 3D games as this is still essentially an office computer and not meant for gaming.

    • i5-6500 is from 2015, so yes, old but not outdated for certain tasks (not gaming).

  • What's the highest spec graphic card is this compatible to?

    • T1000 8GB I believe should work in this. A workstation GPU, with gaming performance equal to GTX 1650.

      https://www.centrecom.com.au/leadtek-nvidia-quadro-t1000-8gb…

      Terrible price to performance though.

      • +1

Keep in mind that the 3040 SFF only has a 180w power supply.
Not sure the TGP of the T1000, but best to check.

        • +1

Indeed, always good advice. It's max power consumption is 50W, it's typical use is in systems with 180 to 220W, apparently.

  • Interested but unsure about this listing saying I will get the Dell P2214H. But then the link says I might not. Is that click bait??

Edit: I know nothing about monitors, btw

    • +1

just get the box and grab a new 24" monitor from MSY or Scorptec.

    • +1

Bought x2 of these and they didn't tell me I wasn't going to get a P2214H and I ended up getting x2 really old 1050p monitor.

Looks like they are trying to prevent complaints with this listing.

  • HODL!

  • The bundle is sold out, but I'm still wondering whether the box itself is good value? Probably increase the SSD to 240GB, so comes to $280 with the wifi adaptor. Then just get 2x screens and keyboard/mouse?

Would this be recommended? I have a friend who needs a basic machine to work from home - simple Office, web browsing, zoom (with webcam), they mainly access their work stuff through a remote desktop connection to their work network.

For around this price is there anything of better value?

    • Anyone?
