      The reviews tho ooof

Who would ever be compelled to leave a good review on a power bank? Besides, it's Amazon, if it sucks just return it. Either way there are far better deals than this scam Anker is trying to pull.

anker a scam ? but not romoss ?

          • -1

@dcep: Have you seen the way Anker have been jacking their prices lately? They charge more than Apple do now.

    • +12

I don't believe anker and romoss are comparable. Invalid neg

If you have something against Romoss then Xiaomi have one for $71.87 that is also much better.

          I would disagree.
Owning both anker is also superior to xiaomi.

@teacherer: How can you compare them? They either work or they don't.

            • @Void: I'm concerned that politicians have to try and win your vote =/

        • My xiaomi / ZMI 20000 mah powerbank just tried to let out the smoke tonight…

Seems like the cells are fine, just the control board fried… bit of a shame really.

solid power bank, have used it many, many times to charge my MacBook over the year when I couldn't access a power point - no complaints.

    • Does it have 20V output?

      • sorry I'm not actually sure, hopefully someone will be able to confirm for you : )

      • +1

definitely not. it only outputs 20W max.

      • +1

How does it charge a Macbook as per comment above if it is not 20V?
Does it charge just very slow?
I assumed it wouldn't charge at all!

        • no mention of Macbook on Amazon page either

confirm- I've used Anker for a few years now. all very well built. The guys who started this company are ex-google engineers and if you read up the history - they have. a passion for great engineering and developing good products.

  • good product? yes.
    overpriced? a little.

Quite a bit of heated discussion above, but Void isn't wrong saying Romoss is comparable to Anker.
He is being unfairly negged above in my opinion, Anker IS expensive for what they offer.

Choice did a review on power banks (last updated Feb this year).

Whilst this particular Anker model did get a "recommended" tag, it came in ninth.
Brands/models that scored higher in the top 8 of their tests? Belkin, Cygnett, and you'd never guess…. Romoss!

Cygnett got most of the top spots with varying models, with Romoss getting a 4th and 6th spot.

Void's actual model linked above got the 4th spot, and according to Choice IS the better buy. It's a little heavier, but offers more usable capacity and does larger/multiple devices much better.

    • While i dont usually look at Choice reviews. I prefer most of the tech review sites or youtube channels as they are usually done by tech heads that put equipment through real world testing. Not sure how Choice works or does things.

I have been researching powerbanks lately to find one before a o/s trip. What i found is reviews vary like crazy, it is weird what some put higher then others. It was odd because none of the reviews mentioned Romoss powerbanks at all. I just assumed maybe it was an australian powerbank or maybe called something different elsewhere. Anker was on a few that i saw, but most were all these other named powerbanks. Cygnett also wasnt mentioned much and i must admit i skipped over them based on Amazon reviews. Just checked them again and $199 for 27,000mAh wireless laptop powerbank! ouch!.

I havent been this confused in a long time trying to find a powerbank to buy. Charging output, pass thru charging, output ports, safety features, recharge times, accessories, size….. arrrrggggh

        I completely agree with you.

I wanted a small/light weight power bank for camping/hiking. The reviews are all very confusing and contradictory.
But I do like Choice because a) it is Australian, b) it's non-profit and unbiased (a lot of these online reviews have some skin in each of the reviews they do), and c) I've relied on them for previous purchases and I haven't been let down yet.

They aren't perfect by any stretch, they do so many reviews on so many products clearly they aren't going to be as thorough as experts in the area. But they run devices/products through at least a testing procedure that I could never do on my own- and give me a good indication on where I at least should be leaning. I just like how they are independent… no possible way they are benefiting from the product scores they give (or subjected to fanboi analysis) :). And no cherry picking, the devices they review are sourced retail- not hand picked by the manufacturer.

        Good luck in your hunt!

You’ve probably already bought the one you wanted for camping and hiking, but the Nitecore NB10000 is really well loved by the ultralight types. 10,000mAh, 150g, USB-C and USB-A.

  • Excellent powerbank, I’ve got this and a Rav. I prefer the Rav but they’re very close in performance.

  • I'm replacing my Cygnett 20,000 mAh ChargeUp Pro. Which was a beast but died last week. Should I replace with the Anker or this for a more?

    https://www.jaycar.com.au/20-000mah-power-bank-with-2-x-usb-…

    • 3A total power output (so what, across two outlets?)

They don't even quote output in Watts (only the wireless output), so I'm thinking its going to be very slow going charging devices.

      • I did notice that and thought I was just missing something. I think I'll go with the anker, if that's the case.

  • What about phones above the s9.

  • The battery in my Anker power bank became puffy very quickly. Luckily it didn't start a fire.

  • Can this charge/power Switch?

  • I had an older Anker 20000mah with micro usb that I had sitting in my drawer for over two years without use, and last night I used it and was surprised that it had a full charge still. awesome stuff
