@ilovefullprice: It's good value to sign up for a YT premium family plan. You get 5 invites in total (if you have big family, just open another dummy account and repeat the process).

Only the dummy account use Indian address (location) to sign up. Make sure to use a master card that allows international transactions. I use CBA card.
The advantage of using dummy account is you don't get Indian content suggestions on your regular YT account while enjoying the same Premium benefits. Good luck 🤞

              • @Scythic: Sorry I am a little confused now.

So say for your mobile phone login, you are using Gmail account A.

For this YT Premium subscription service, you are using Gmail account B.

On your mobile phone (which is logged in using Gmail account A), can you login into your YT Premium account (which is signed-up using Gmail account B)?

I have been using it for over 3 years now on a monthly plan. Paying ~$2.5 a month after subbing from India with VPN. Youtube Premium comes with YouTube music which some people think is nott as good as Spotify but gets job done. Saving another $10+ on music sub.

    Some FAQs I get -
    1. Do you have to be on VPN after signing up to use services?
    A. No. I have apps on my phone and Sony Smart Tv and I don't use VPN.

    1. Can I sign up using my regular Gmail?
      A. Yes but you have to change your location address to India which I don't recommend doing. This will not allow you to purchase any google services unless you're on VPN again. For example movies from Google Movies can't be purchased when location is set to Aus.

    2. Does it change recommendations etc?
      A. Best to do this one a new account for billing reasons. That means a fresh library as well. Recommendations are based on your usage so in a few days or weeks you will only see recommendations based on your search/ watched and subs. At first you'll see Indian content but just start saying "don't recommend this channel" or "I don't like this video" and those content will start disappearing.

    3. Is YouTube music good?
      A. That's subjective. I like it because if a song is not on YouTube music then it finds it on YouTube and you can still listen/ add to your library. Which means you are likely to find pretty much every song on the planet either through music or tube. Some people don't like the recommendations based on their listened songs etc but again that's subjective. for me, $2.50 gives me ad-free youtube (which I use a LOT!!) and music app and that's just great.

    4. Is YouTube premium worth it?
      A. If you watch Youtube then absolutely ! I have the app on my TV and I think i watch youtube more than Netflix or Kayo. Simply because there are great contents being created every day. Some great channels and documentaries. It also comes with Music app so if you want to save on other subscriptions, definitely give it a try.

    hope that helps a bit.

    • Once I subscribed I changed my address back, had no issues in 2 years

    • What card did you use to pay?

  • +4

Maybe when vanced finally dies… Even then, I'll miss the auto skip of in video sponsor annoucements.

Hopefully a suitable replacement is around by then anyway 🙂

    • Yeah seems the nft "prank" Post did not go down well and pissed off Google. They let it go for so long and only stopped it after that post it seems.

  • the only difference between premium and Vanced is the ability to download videos correct ?

    • +5

Vanced doesn't work on iOS, Chromecast, Nest Hub, Android TV, Smart TV, etc. etc. If you want a single method that works on all devices, then premium is your only option.

      • Vance used to work with chromecast for me. Up to about 2 weeks ago. Cant get it to work now probably to do with Google asking them to wind up.

      • +3

I have a variant of Vanced working fine on my telly. SmartTubeNext

        • thx checking it out

    • Not sure if youtube has the brightness and volume controls when swiping the left/right side of a video.

    • Vanced has lots of additional functionality. It's a shame it's being abandoned.

      Biggest ones for me are
      - Return youtube dislikes
      - in video sponsor/ad skipping (For the ads and sponsor spots that are actually part of the video)

  • +2

Remember, if you don't use a google home assistant and only plan on using youtube on your phone, you cna try Youtube Vanced and Music Vanced.

    • Vanced has been shut down after a C&D from Google. Something to do with NFTs or something from what I recall…?

Anyway, you can't download the app from their website any more. Perhaps elsewhere?

    • +1

I use Firefox with Ublock on my phone

  • How long has Annual been available? I'm sure I wasn't able to select annual only a few months ago

  • -3

you are out bro. argentina has been the cheapest for long time

    • +3

      Do they have annual subscriptions?

      • not sure. monthly is cheap enough

      • +1

It is cheaper to get monthly with Argentina. I am being charged $1.50 per month which is $18 per year. So it is cheaper than YouTube India Annual subscription $20.90.

Turkey is even cheaper as per comments.

        • How are you getting $1.50 per month? I'm on Argentina as well but paying $2.15 (179 peso)

  • +1

Why don’t people just download the brave web browser as it blocks out all the adverts? I did this as I noticed that YouTube seriously cranked up the advertisements during our major lockdown last year.

    • You don't get Youtube music that way.

      • +2

You can't block ads this way if you are using Youtube on TV.

    • +1

Paying for ad-free YT is way simpler when it's used on multiple devices esp for chromecast.

  • +7

Friendship ended with Spotify. Now Youtube is my best friend.

  • Would Revolut and Wise cards be best to use for this?

    • +1

Any Credit Card which doesn't charge an international transaction fee is fine. Google subscription is not as restrictive as Netflix, so you are not limited to any particular card.

  • +7

    Use

Vanced/Newpipe for Android (Soon to be replaced by Revanced)
    SmartTubeNext for Android TV

    • -1

yes, I use SmartTubeNext on my shield pro and it works flawlessly.

      • I second this. Why is this comment negged?

  • Does anyone have any recommendations on a cheap /free VPN to access India? Cheers

  • Anyone know how to change from a monthly Indian subscription to yearly?

Don’t seem to have any option other than cancel or family plan.

    • I was on monthly individual plan but have just canceled. If you purchase again it gives you annual plan as option. Trying to process payment now but seems to be taking forever - maybe it’s my VPN connection running slow?

    • Note for India subscribers: If you have a 1 month or 3 month prepaid plan, you can sign up for an Annual Plan that will begin when your prepaid plan expires.

      • Thanks. Did you have any issues processing payment or annual plan? Mine appears to be timing out on each attempt. I was originally on monthly but canceled to start annual plan but can’t get payment to process. I have tried 2 different cards

    • cancel it or let it lapse, then use the vpn trick to sign up yearly.

  • +4

    $15.25 a year via Turkey

    • 15.39 with Visa. Thanks.

  • anyone having issues adding family member accounts to your list?
i seem to be stuck in a loop before getting in the list of family members. do i need to be on VPN?
note: i've already add two accounts already. either way i cant seem to get it to work. tried on different computers/mobile too.

  • +1

YouTube Premium from Argentina monthly ends up being cheaper compared to YouTube Premium from India Annual subscription.

Currently I am on the month to month subscription and getting charged ~$1.50 per month or ~$18 per year.

Alternatively as others have said, even cheaper through Turkey

  • Is it safe to use my normal gmail account to register?

    • +1

Best to set up an new Gmail account to activate family plan. Then add your normal Gmail account as a family member.

      • So I can invite member after sign up, right?

Indian didn't have family plan, if possible I would like to sign up yearly, some said have problem with the monthly credit card payment.

Should I add the payment method first into my google account?

        • I only have a single Indian account that I use with a spare Gmail account. I am looking at upgrading to a family account which I will send invite to my primary Gmail account.
I just paid with a credit card when I signed up to YouTube India. Didn't have payment attached to the Gmail account first.

  • If I already have a monthly plan through one of these countries ( i think it was india) can i switch to the annual to save cash? or do i have to start afresh?

    • Also keen to know - I guess you can just start a new Gmail account, but what about the 'true' accounts? Switching from India to Argentina an issue..?

      • Yeah I dont really want to start a new account because of all my history / library / saved favourites etc. I presume there wont be an easy way to transfer all that across.

  • Any free vpn that can be used? Not keen on signing up for one with a free trial

  • Question..
Which payment cards or method should i use for No Foreign exchange fees..?

  • Does anyone know how to move family and account location to take advantage of the India prices

  • +1

There's an ongoing thread for this stuff.

I hear you should do it on a spare throw away account, then make a family with that as the master account, inviting your real one?

Losing my Google account is simply not an option

  • Had issues connecting VPN to India so I switched to Turkey and can confirm I was able to purchase the annual membership for $17 AUD or so!

  • +1

    Argentina is $1.56 per month

  • When this becomes for family, it'll be a deal for me!

    • ah, i thought it was family! disappointing!

  • -1

Why would anyone pay to not see ads??? Just use adblocker on PC and Vanced on phone.

    • Just use adblocker on PC and Vanced on phone.

Not on chromecast TV, also background play music

      • Well ok you have a point on Chromecast but you can get xmanager for music

        • xmanager for music

          Isn't this is for Spotify?

    • Chromecast.

      Vanced dying soon

      • Vanced dying soon

Yeah, also didn't work properly now.

        • +3

Flawless for me currently. Love it.

Can't believe they blew it for nfts

          Idiots

    • Iphone app. Also can watch offline downloads is a big bonus for many. Helpful on planes and camping trips where i can’t sleep as early as everyone else.

  • For some strange reason I cant connect to YouTube in the country set by my VPN, if I have VPN set to india it takes me to youtube indonesia, argentina takes me to USA, been trying to find a work around for ages with no success. Did anyone else run into this issue?

  • Has anyone figured out how to change YT recommended songs and videos having an Indian slant.

    • Just listen to the music you want and it will learn/adjust.

      • it is completely ignorable but it has been about a year and recommended music still has a weird slant towards Indian music, random indian music in playlists, indian playlists on home screen, etc.

        • There's so much conflicting information about this. Several people have said that it doesn't effect recommended. I recall years ago doing this method and there was nothing but Indian music which made me cancel and revert to Australia.

Can anyone else confirm their experience with this?

Spent an hour already, 5 different cards and can't get a thing to work. Has anybody added an "Only 1" Visa card to Google?

    • +1

getting payment to work on this thing is a nightmare - tried multiple visa debit and or credit cards…

      • Does it keep timing out for you/not finalising? E.g. you can add card but when you select annual and card to pay it isn't processing?

        • It's saying the card failed on all cards, and one attempt Google was wanting my phone number which i provided but they said it was invalid which its not. Whether it's because it's an Australian number and i was using an Indian address and IP i don't know.

    • Get a 28 Degrees card. No fees.

      • Thanks, but looks like i wont get a card number for about 10 days. I've already spent a few hours on this, so getting a 6th card and going through a credit card application to try and make this work is to the point the juice just isn't worth the squeeze.

        • You can get cheap Netflix in a similar way, and it’s nice to separate all these side-gig subscriptions into one place.

  • I don't have a CC that has waived fees for overseas transaction. Is there a workaround to this?

    • Get a citibank debit

    • +1

I don't have a CC that has waived fees for overseas transaction

      Shouldn't be a lot.

  • +2

Damn, looks like I need to migrate from Argentina and move to India

Edit: "Chicken Kyiv 29 min ago
    Argentina is $1.56 per month"

    nvm, staying in Argentina

  • +1

Ill get this just to skip the terrible “ dropshipping or other kinds of similar get rich schemes “” - training ads.

    • +2

Wait till he realises that the ads shown are based on his own web activity.

      • Duh! Even in incognito. They are everywhere!

  • Managed to subscribe to an annual subscription even though I paid for the overseas transaction fee. Ended with $24.90, still good value compared to $15 a month here.

  • Does this method mean suggestions etc in Indian or Hindi related?

    • Nah when you open your account it suggests contents based on your location

      • Any ideas if YouTube music would avoid Indian suggestions too then?
