  • Gee that gateway is so much cheaper than Conbee II :o

    • But the Conbee is awesome

      • +2

Not as awesome as the Sonoff. I think the Sonoff is also technically superior. Newer chips.

        • Have used the Conbee II and Sonoff and would have to agree on the superiority of the Sonoff one.

      • There seems be a few people on the HA forum who have replaced their Conbee with the Sonoff dongle and their network has been more stable so it might even be better.

        • so it should be a lot more stable than a CC2531?

          • +4

@impoze: Absolutely I replaced my CC2531 with one and all the issues I had went away.
You can also change the IEEE address on the sonoff dongle to match the CC2531 so you don't have to repair the devices.

            • @at9: awesome, ordering now.

            • @at9: And here I ordered all the bits to setup the CC2531 about a week ago. Oh well, ordered this as well, thanks :D

            • @at9: Oh damn, didnt know you could keep the address. Was the only thing holding me back

            • @at9: do you have instructions/link to changing the IEEE address
also where do i get the IEEE of the CC2531?

              i'm running HA

            • @at9: Don't you have to backup the config stored on the dongle as well?

              • @10101010101: got it all set up after flashing the firmware.

working great, didn't quite set up the IEEE address config but was planning to re-pair and migrate hue devices anyway.

    • Would in work in place of a Conbee in a Home Assistant set up?

      • +1

        Yes it would.

      • It works great with zigbee2mqtt. You just need to update the firmware which is really simple with plenty of guides.

        • I'm using ZHA. Any idea if I'd have to redo my Home Assistant setup after upgrading firmware? Or should it just work again?

          • @10101010101: It should just work but you need to back it up first.
This post has some more info an links on what to do.

    • I'm using a Conbee now, at that price still bought one to try out/keep as a spare.

  • Would anyone know if this allows me to connect a thermostat to Brilliant smart system?

    • As far as I know all the Brilliant stuff is Tuya based and uses Wifi so not sure if this is what you are looking for. I mean it'll will do it, but you'll need to run Home Assistant or similar to bring together all your Wifi and Zigbee gear.

      • Thanks… need to read a fair bit about it to get my head around this

  • Hi, Do we need to create an account to use coupon?

  • Any feedback on the motion sensors? Like how long till they reset and detect motion again once triggered?

    • +1

From memory it's a 60 second time out

  • Appears to be the standard price for these two on Aliexpress, although you may get faster shipping through GeekBuy if their estimates of 2-7 days (Priority line) are to be trusted.

    • +1

AliExpress will add 10% GST ontop at checkout. 2-7 business days after processing is usually accurate for priority shipping.

  • What is the IP rating of the sensor?

    • +1

Does not appear to be one. Would be intended for indoor use.

  • Can the motion sensor be used with a Hue light?

    • I believe you'd need to use Home Assistant as Philips implementation of ZigBee is different.

  • Hi, I'm seeing AU$34.20 for x2 motion sensors, not ~AU$24, code used up?

    • The code only applies to one per order. So you'd have to make 2 orders.

  • Derp me, sorry. Thanks!

  • Can I pair it to Hue bulbs?

    • mostly any zigbee devices

  • Thanks…. I grabbed a gateway, hoping to get my Lockwood T Locks connected

  • I have the Sonoff zigbee/wifi ZHAbridge flashed with Tasmota. HA and ZHA.

    How does the dongle compare?

  • +1

Awesome timing! Just received my ConBee II but haven't set it up yet. Just returned to Amazon and grabbed one of these instead for HA!

  • D'oh. Dongle/gateway is sold out

    • Restocked

      • Thanks.
        Ordered 1

  • Clear any chance you can work your magic for some more stock of the dongle? Lol

    • +2

Yeah I'll talk to Geek about it. Will have another Zigbee sensor coming soon during the week.

      • You're a wizard Clear!

Thanks so much for helping out

    • +1

Looks like more stock has landed, I just placed an order successfully.

  • Picked up a dongle and 2 motion sensors, will see how the motion sensors compare to the aqara ones I have.

Hopefully i can pair the zigbee 3 aqara door sensors with the dongle that the conbee doesnt seem to want to see

    • Must be the newer door sensors? Interested to hear how it goes, I do remember reading they weren't compatible but I believe there may be a firmware update for the Conbee now that will get them working.

      • Yep the newer ones

  • How long does it normally take for geekbuying to ship? Mine is still processing from Monday.

    • +1

I haven't ordered from them for a while but the wait was getting pretty lengthy when I did, at least a week before they shipped out for most.

      • Thanks for replying. Will give it a few days before contacting them.

  • Wow they still havent shipped out my motion sensor. Ordered on 28/3 and it's now 7 days later and still no movement. Just ordered the Sonoff dongle as well. I hope the postal speed is fast once actually shipped.

    • It's usually 2-7 business days. I will follow up.

      • Thanks much appreciated!

    • They're normally really fast. Several Chinese cities have recently give back into lockdown, which could be causing some delays. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2022/apr/01/covid-lockdown…

    • Did get an email from them a few days ago about one of my orders:

"Thank you for your shopping from Geekbuying
We are glad to tell you that your order will be shipped in next week.
When it is shipped out ,we will send a message with a tracking number .
      Your patience is appreciated."

My last orders from them were in 2020 sent via Auspost Priority Line were quick at least. Took a week for them to send, then 2 arrived after 10 days and a third got here in a record 5 days. Auspost seems to be worse than ever at the moment though. Still waiting 3 weeks on for Amazon orders sent from over east (and one says it arrived at my local hub 2 weeks ago.)

  • +1

Just emailed them for an update as mine was ordered 28/3 but still stuck on "processing". Automated response: "Sorry to inform you that we will be on vacation for the Tomb Sweeping Festival from April 3 to 5. Apologize for the inconvenience."

    • Update: Mine JUST got shipped out this morning.. exactly 2 weeks from when I ordered.

  • over 2 weeks since order and still not even shipped out - I'll just be sticking to aliexpress in the future I think.

  • Also chiming in, ordered a dongle and only just received an email confirming it's been shipped out. I have an AusPost tracking number that's not working yet.
I'd avoid geekbuying and go straight for Ali next time, unless the cost difference is significant.

  • same boat, have tracking but hasn't been shipped out.

    • Auspost tracking number wont show anything until it hits Australia.

  • Ordered 28th. Got shipping notification for the dongle and 2 motion detectors (seperately) on the 11th. The Dongle shows as shipping Australia Priority Line - 7-15 days, but the detectors show as Airmail - 30-50 days. Gonna get the dongle and have nothing to attach as it's my start into Zigbee. I did query this when I first noticed on order and got some cryptic message from the support team. Not a good first Geekbuying experience :(

    • Received my dongle today, only 37 days till my sensors arrive to test 🤔

      • You can pick up some ikea tradfri sensors and bulbs pretty cheap

        • No Ikea in Tassie. 🥺 Building a shopping list of Laddas and Zigbee for next visit to the Big Island 😆

  • looks like mine is finally coming today

  • To use the motion sensor and door contact sensor do I need sonoff zigbee bridge or the sonoff zigbee dongle plus can do the job?

  • Anyone having issues with these?
Mine seem to never clear after being occupied, even when put in dark drawer with no movement.
Had issues with battery contact as well that I think it's linked.
    Seem like terrible quality.

    • Yet to receive mine but Sonoff stuff is pretty bad. Change the battery and bend the terminals to establish more reliable contact. Once I did that it fixed most of my issues.

I had fun migrating to my new ZigBee dongle. Already had the Sonoff one but wanted a second one to flash the new firmware. Took a lot of mucking around as guides online seem to be all outdated. In the end just followed the very simple instructions on the GitHub page for zigpy-znp and had to do that on the target machine. Couldn't t successfully run backup or restore running from a separate Windows PC. Also whilst it kept all of my 75 ZigBee devices and nearly 400 entities, the crazy thing reset all my name's and entity names! Urgh but fortunately I could still see the linked automations and deduced the names from the automations they were triggering

      • Yeah, the dongle is great. Set up with home assistant and zigbee2mqtt. Working well. Just the motion sensor seems a bit crap…

        • Look for hue or the newer aqara motion sensors

          • @impoze: I've heard good things about the IKEA ones. And they're within my budget.
I do have an aqara one (not sure if newer). But it's been good.

            • @NigelTufnel: the IKEA motion sensors aren't good as they have a very long cool down time which can't be changed.

the Aqara P2 only just came out and the cool down can be set to as low as 1 second.

              • @impoze: I can work around a 3 minute cooldown for my use case. I usually have lights only turn off a few minutes after motion cleared anyway, or dim when initially cleared before turning off.
I can't work around them not detecting motion. Though, after a bit of tinkering with the sonoff and a few resets, they seem to be working okay. They also seem to have a cool down of around 2 minutes anyway. Certainly longer than my older aqara one.

  • Second part of my order finally arrived!! Ordered 28/3… Only took 44 days lol

    • Received one sensor…. Still waiting on the second one.

As a side note Hardly Normal has Cygnett Zigbee Smart Buttons on clearance for $18 if you can get hold of one. They get recognised as a Sonoff in HA and while they're more expensive than the Sonoff from say Ali express, I like that theyre round rather than square.

      • Cygnet button has a much nicer tactile feel. Sonoff ones are horrible. Wish I didn't buy them. Got my Cygnet button for $14 from Kogan
