If you don't know the difference between AMD Ryzen U,H and HS series. U is 15W TDP, H is 45w TDP and HS is 35W TDP. There is also a HX series which are 45W+ in high end gaming laptops.

The HS Creator Edition is better binned to be more power efficient but with similar clock speeds to the H series CPU.

  • Oh damn 400nit 90hz panel. That's just amazing! The resolution is probably unnecessary at 14" but blimey why can't we get more 90hz panels?! Both on laptops and desktops!

    • 144hz 600nits would be good.

      • A tad overkill for the average user. On battery that brightness/Hz wouldn't be ideal. If it was cheap, that spec on a desktop monitor would be nice but!

  • Might not apply to this model but the issue I have with Lenovo laptops is their charging port is also the USB-C for replicators/docking stations. That means I can't use the display capability of the USB-C port for my 8k TV and power the laptop at the same time. Most DELL laptops have traditional power jacks so freeing up their Thunderbolt 4 port for 8k display.

Why not get a powered dock with power pass through?

      • Because I will have to buy the powered dock pass through. I already have everything I need with a DELL.

Run out of money buying an 8k tv bro?

          • @Kanjus: He's living on 2min noodles for rest of the year to pay off the 8k TV.

          • @Kanjus: No, just not stupid like suggesting I ran out of money.

@dreamerman: We're just taking the piss mate. This is ozbargain comments. That's what we do, don't take it too seriously. Lol.

    • Would this be the same with the Samsung Monitor USB Hubs?

    • But this laptop has 2 USB-C's with DP 1.4 support. Can't you use one for display out and second for charging?

Tempting, but I assume the 6000 series replacement is very close and will have better graphics and lower power draw without the MX450.

    • I was told by Lenovo rep that their new Z13 is coming out in May. Other models are likely be around same time.

      • i just spoke to one Lenovo rep, they don't have a timeline for the any AMD series released @_@ …was baffled when there was already an announcement in CES 2022.

Would have bought this in a flash if it was offered 3 months ago.
    Unfortunately, don't need another laptop.

  • Damn. If i hadn't already bought the ideapad 7. This would have been a consideration to purchase instead.

  • The coupon takes off 30% of the base price on other products as well including the new Lenovo Yoga 9i 14” i7-1260P which comes down to $2,351.30.

    • My concern with i7 1260P, is that P core performance drops at 28w TDP. A review posted today, comparing it to the Yoga with an 11th gen Intel CPU, shows that single core performance is less on the 1260p. Intel themselves say it needs up to 60w+ for the P cores to perform. Also there is no solid battery life comparison available at the moment vs 11th gen to show if it is more efficient.

  • You will get what you pay for here , sorry.

Going through a lengthy and quite frankly ridiculous exercise to get a faulty keyboard replaced on a new lenovo ideapad, that has been out of action for over a month now.

If your not remotely technically competent then I would seriously consider your options.

I've had to prove the system is up-to-date, bios is latest, re-installing device drivers etc to prove what in the end took a real support person not long to realise the hardware is at fault.

Additionally , the number of times I had to repeat the problem details, and my contact details via email is not efficient, doesn't seem to be a CRM they use for support.

  • I had a troublesome experience with Lenovo as well with a new X13 gen 2 top of the range laptop. Took almost 2 months but finally was able to get a full refund. My previous experience was the exact opposite for the X1 carbon that I bought around 4 years back.
Would have continued with Lenovo if it had not been the technician who came and swapped the motherboard for a USB C port issue which completely killed the laptop within a couple of hours of the motherboard being replaced.

I had this exact machine and returned - faulty keyboard. Also be aware that the MX450 makes the keyboard deck get quite hot during gaming. The Slim 7 Carbon is a better machine if you don't need a 35-45W CPU, single core performance is identical with the 5800U, multicore performance is around 10-15% less.

    • Carbon has bad thermals and fans kick in too often

      • Mine is quiet, I've noticed that the fans come on more when the laptop is plugged in though and take longer to turn off. If temps stay under 50 degrees most of the time the fans stay off. I've found the thermals good. Mine doesn't have the MX450 though.

One thing I don't like about the Carbon is the battery discharges pretty quickly when the laptop is completely turned off. I only use this machine around once a week, I charge it fully, then when I power it on a week later the battery is under 20%. This is with fast start and USB always on is switched off.

The upcoming AMD Ryzen 6000 series mobile chips are such a big upgrade that these aren't a great buy.
50%+ battery life, and the integrated GPU is excellent (RDNA2)

    • Agree 99%, but that 1% indicates the reality ie the global supply chain. I don't expect anything close to GA on Next gen Laptops before end of this year.

    • If you need a laptop now, or within the next 3 months this is a fantastic price and laptop.

      • Exactly

  • fa}K everything except 14". Is there any 15.6 or 16" version?

  • Grr soldered RAM, won't make that mistake again

    • Good luck getting a portable laptop which intentionally wastes pcbs and sockets just for the sake of letting users upgrade the RAM. Some even have soldered Wifi modules and it's just a matter of time Manufacturers follow the same route for storage. They been doing that since inception in Phones and tablets and today's ultra portables shares the same dna as those than decade old production lines of legacy laptops.

  • Is the warranty here an international warranty? I would need to work overseas for 1-2 years to Indonesia, wondering if it works there.

  • Almost bought this not realising that the slim is basically a non-yoga yoga and is not a 2-in-1 nor is it touch screen. Seems like a big L in the marketing department (or a big W if you're getting people to buy them by accident).
