This deal is coming back at some Bunnings stores.

Good price for a garden blower, a grass trimmer and a 2.5Ah battery with a compact charger.

Although there is no product link to Bunnings website, I think there should be a batch of units coming in, so you may check your local Bunnings for stock. I got mine at Kingsgrove NSW yesterday.

This product includes:
18V Blower
18V Grass trimmer
2.5Ah Battery
Compact charger
10 x Grass trimmer blades

UPDATE

This is the normal price. It's been $99 for at least 3 months.

    • +3

yeah, but it disappeared from their website, so i thought it was over, but good to see it still available!

Dodgy plastic blades on the trimmer and the battery on the blower doesn't last very long(5-10mins usage outside after full charge), but ymmv. We returned both and got the corded electric version.

    Normal price $49 https://www.bunnings.com.au/ozito-500w-290mm-electric-line-t…

Something wrong with your battery if you're only getting 5-10 minutes. Mine lasts easily over half an hour (I'm not sure exactly how long, I'll have to check next time, but definitely more than 10 minutes). Also, make sure to use the blades from Bunnings. I tried the cheap ones on eBay and they would break after 5 seconds, but the genuine ones I only use one or two each time.

    • +2

i read i another comment a while ago that you can use zip ties instead of blades and it works amazingly well. Cant find the link now, sorry.

      • +1

That is the hack. Use normal whipper snipper line. Bend it into shape of the alpha symbol and tie where it crosses.

  • +1

I'm waiting for the brushless line trimmer to come out…

    • There are Ryobi ones. Or are you waiting for Ozito brushless?

      • +1

yeah already have the batteries with ozito

  • Normal price even though it's a good deal

You can hack the line trimmer and attach normal line to it, check previous threads for info

  • +1

Good deal. Essentially getting the blower skin for free.

Wow great thanks for sharing. Is it an internal tool of Bunnings or a public one to get the stock number?

      • Any updates? More stock in QLD?

        Thanks in advance

      • +1

Can anyone help check on updated stocks?

I have this set, I love the trimmer. It’s so light weight and makes it very easy for me to carry and trim the grass and weeds.

My battery lasts for about 30min too and the only time the blades break is if you hit something too hard like bricks or a tree, stick to grass and weeds and they last for ages.

  • +1

Just grabbed one at Crossroads NSW

    • How many left or did u take the last one? Lol

      • Now that you mention it, there might have been 2 only. So one left after I grabbed one.

  • +5

I have both of these items - for $99 this is an absolute bargain. The blower has been more useful than I could ever have imagined and the trimmer does what it sets out to do well.

  • Isn't the advice not to use powerpass and the warranty is for diy use only?

    • +1

I have returned and done warranty claims for home use items purchased on my business power pass plenty of times.

Guess it comes down to who you're dealing with at the time.

  • +2

    Trimmer:
The trimmer is good for a normal garden, I've had this combo for a number of years. Only use a 2ah battery or lower, if you don't it will spin fast enough to start tearing the trimmer blades off. Be prepared to find little red blades all over the place. When they do come off or fail they just got anywhere and you'll find them weeks later.

    Blower:
Can't really fault this, works great for the price.

    • This is an interesting point. I have 1.5ah and 2.5ah batteries and haven't been seeing the issues with blades that others have been reporting at all - if you're right it could explain it. Thank you.

      • +1

Happy for someone to correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that the 2.5ah and lower batteries all only run one string. That is, a 2Ah or 2.5Ah won't generate any additional torque, but will last longer than an equivalent 1.5Ah battery.

3ah and above run two strings and that's where you'll notice the power increase in tools which leverage the additional torque.

    • Great hint! Thanks a lot!
Now I realise why 2 blades broken yesterday just because I used 4Ah battery. The day before, I used the 2.5Ah battery, the blade didn't break, but it became very short after 30 mins. The blade consumed quickly.

    • Agree re comments on trimmer but I really like the blade over a line, makes trimming so easy, wife loves using the trimmer while i do the lawn, she finds it super easy to just replace it, we usually get 2x entire house per blade. The Ozito ecosystem has been wonderful for us.

      • +2

huh? Does the higher wattage battery also produce a higher voltage?

I would have thought the larger batteries simply last longer rather than producing more power - they have more 18650 in paralell ie same voltage?

        • Yeah, that's a strange comment when people make that assumption that higher Ah equals more power, it's always 36V or 18V

          • +1

@oddjob: Depending on how they are configured, bigger batteries often result in running multiple strings and hence generate modest increases in torque, alongside the noted increases in runtime.

        • That is true for an ideal battery.

Real batteries have internal resistance which limits the maximum current they can produce. The higher Ah batteries have strings of cells in parallel which reduces the internal resistance which increases the maximum current.

    • I use 4ah battery all the time with my trimmer and don’t have any issues at all with blades coming off.

I do notice a power increase when I use the bigger battery over the smaller ones.

Bought this kit late last year and find the battery still has at least one charge light after trimming all around the garden beds and grass edges (standard size block), then blowing cuttings onto the lawn to pickup with the mower. The plastic blades on the trimmer do wear out quickly if you hit things like concrete etc, but I find that if I am careful then I can make a blade last a decent length of time - I bought a box of replacement blades but after quite a few months am still on the ones that came with the kit. Frankly I prefer it to the plastic cords - always seemed to tangle or refuse to come out etc.

Look, neither of the tools are equivalent to high end jobs - my petrol brush cutter with a metal blade could cut down trees so in comparison this grass cutter is a toy - but for general purpose stuff it works just fine.

  • +1

I have the grass trimmer kit with 2.5amp battery.

    https://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:N7f3UY…

I bought 2 of them as it was super cheap at like $30 per kit. One for myself and one for my parents. It's not very good, so I didn't give one to my parents.

If anyway wants a brand new one in box, happy to sell it for the price I got it for. Pick up in Richmond Melbourne.

    Cheers
    John

  • DO NOT BUY IF YOU THINK YOU WILL USE THE TRIMMER MOSTLY. Cheap electric trimmers with all the weight in the front will damage your wrist in no time. Center of gravity is totally out of whack and only suitable for 5 mins of use before you start doing long term damage to your arm.

    • +2

      Hah, the trimmer weighs nothing.

      • It's not about the weight, the balance. All the weight is on the wrist.

        • Honestly, this trimmer is so light you can use it one handed.

I don't dispute your comments or preference for units where the motor is higher up the shaft rather than in the head, but they really don't apply to this unit. I actually often use it to finish my yards after my hands / arms start fatiguing using my 56v Ego line trimmer and edger which do have the motors and centre of gravity much further up the shaft. At 2kg vs 10kg, it really is a moot point.

    • +1

I have this trimmer and it is the lightest item in my toolkit.

It is the only yard item that my better half will use. My well balanced, considerably more powerful 56v EGO line trimmer weighs at least three times as much, but only gets used when I haven't trimmed the grass for a couple weeks or need to recut curb edges.

This unit is not comparable but is highly recommended, albeit only for light trimming and in the knowledge that it's cutting swathe is considerably smaller than a 13" or 15" line trimmer. It's not designed to be a brush cutter…

  • I bought the trimmer and returned it. Underpowered and too short.

But if you have <400sqm block you'd be fine. I have 1/4 acre fenced - I did not look forward to line trimming with this.

    • What did you end up going with

      • The 2x pxc kit. It's also crap - well it's fine. But the ergonomics result in your wrist being bent the entire time.

  • This trimmer is awful. Do not waste your money.
The blades keep detaching from the trimmer while in use which causes lots of frustration.
    Don't buy this trimmer.

    • What did you end up going with?

I'm trying to avoid using petrol so battery is only real option since corded is just another nightmare to use with the constant anxiety of snipping the cord.

I have a small yard but lots of things to hit especially when doing the stairs and brick wall.

  • bought the last one on clearance for $88!

blower blew my expectations, a lot more power than i imagined

the trimmer is light and does the job for a small yard

  • +2

The plastic blades on the trimmer are pretty ordinary and wear out quickly but when you do this hack it changes things completely! I make up a batch of 10 in advance and just pop them on, my block is only 100sqm but I get about 2-3 uses before I swap it out.
Powerful enough that I can get a deep groove on buffalo and have had people ask if I was using an edger. Another option is this 3d printed attachment (I haven't tested this method)
The blower isn't super powerful but gets the job done.
Definitely worth the price for the combo but only if you plan on doing the hack or making the 3D print attachment.
