TP-Link KC300S3 Kasa Smart Wire-Free Camera System IP65 FHD 1080P - 3 Pack $249 Delivered / SYD C&C @ PCByte

50

Been wanting to get an indoor/ outdoor wireless surveillance solution (with night vision and motion detection) but pricing has put me off. Decided to pull the trigger on this deal. Reviews are really good. Works with Google Assistant (nest devices, Android phones etc) and Alexa. Live view and notifications via app. I believe it is online storage only ie no SD card (although the OP on this US thread talks about using an sd card https://ipcamtalk.com/threads/tp-link-kasa-kc300-kit-using-t…). There is free rolling 2-day video for the first year. After that you need to subscribe (which can be as little as $6 per month per camera). I will probably only subscribe on a monthly basis - only when the family is away. There is some info about all this on these pages. https://www.tp-link.com/au/support/faq/1962/ https://www.tp-link.com/au/support/faq/1959/. The Kasa camera system is apparently being discontinued and replaced by the Tapo system, hence the markdowns, but that doesn't bother me. The main negative I've seen in reviews is that the hub needs to be connected to the router. The 2 camera setup is available for $155 delivered after $10 coupon here https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/265165388209.

  • I have purchased some from the last deal. For that price they are a very decent set up.

    • Good to hear. You happy with it?

      • Yes, very. Pretty reliable with the same few drawbacks all wireless units have. One is the battery life, I get about 4 months, the other is a bit late start of recording but overall happy and would buy again.

        • Great. Thanks for the feedback. 4 months sounds pretty decent to me. Is that with motion detection or continuous ?

The price is definitely right - I just can't for the life of me buy a system where I can't just record to a hard drive and am forced to pay for the cloud. Though I guess you need to pay for this luxury…

    • You have free cloud storage for a few days. Usually that's plenty, who really needs storage from weeks ago?

  • Will I need the hub if have tp-link deco system? And if I was to purchase just a single camera

    • I believe so. System comes with hub, so it is included in the price anyway.

      • If not requiring it I'd choose to not have it running

  • $6ea/month is not cheap (even if it happens to be comparatively cheap(?), it's still not cheap)

    • Check out pricing on linked pages. Annual amounts are cheaper on a monthly basis. I would only pay when away - same as with my Nest Hub max which is also online storage only for surveillance camera, so that is a cheap solution for me. Have never bothered with a home alarm. This hub also has alarms and sounds to emulate occupancy apparently.

(which can be as little as $6 per month per camera)

    3 cameras would equal $216 every year… No thanks…

    • On an annual basis you can pay $60 per camera or $200 per account (up to 10 cameras). You get this for free
      Live Streaming
      Push-to-Talk
      Activity Zones
      Activity Notifications

So after 12 months this setup has already cost you $550, around the same for one with all of this included anyway.

        • +1

Which setups give you 3 cameras with "all of this" without a subscription for $550 ? (And integrates with Google Assistant). Goolge Nest x3 is $900 and requires a subscription for premium features. Arlo x3 is $600 and requires subscription for premium features - and looks like it is Alexa but not Google assistant. etc

So did you find any examples in the last 6 hours? Thought not. With this product you also get free rolling 2-day history for the first year - so your 12 months pushes out to 24 months. And since you get premium storage for $200 pa for up to 10 cameras your $550 is actually $450. And in fact, since this is for 3 cameras, you get all the same features for $60 pa per camera instead of $200 for up to 10, so the $200 is actually $180. So you're looking at $429 ($249 + $60 x 3) over 2 years - if you really want the premium storage for all 3 cameras - and much less if you only want the premium storage for some of the cameras and/ or for some months only (as I do). That all seems to be a pretty good deal. But who needs convincing anyway.

        $200 per account

        Wow !!!

        Save $16… thanks…

        • Up to 10 cameras.

@belbo: Deal only contains 3 cameras.

  • I would rather spend extra 30$ to buy from Amazon! It’s all good until you have a problem. Stay away from this mob if you can!!

    • Amazon is the third last company I would want to share data with.

      • +1

So it oki to share with a chinese company (TP-Link)? what is the different? What data will we loose?
        (serious question)

      • I think Ohreally means purchasing from Amazon instead of PCByte, rather than buying an Amazon camera.

        • Yes, you are right @ b2dz

      • Okay

  • online storage only ie no SD card

The Kasa camera system is apparently being discontinued and replaced by the Tapo system, hence the markdowns, but that doesn't bother me.

    This does not compute…
If it's online storage only and they're deprecating the line, your devices are only as useful for as long as TP-Link maintain the Servers for the Kasa line!

Shouldn't happen for a while, but could easily happen very soon and you've just bought some expensive paperweights.

    • Source?

      • Read it on a site when looking into the product. On further reading it seems like it is being discontinued in the UK - but it seems like Kasa is big in the US and Tapo only now being introduced, plus a Kasa doorbell was introduced in the US earlier this year. Kasa app will apparently be rolled into Tapo app. Seems like there have been no official announcements on a global basis. I expect a company like TP-Link would continue to support the servers/ premium functionality for a couple of years at least after any official discontinuance - and that presumably Australian consumer law would give some sort of right of return or compensation if a product was sold by a supplier with a known intention for infrastructure support not to be available for a reasonable amount of time. You run the same risk with any product line being discontinued at any time. I'm not too worried about this. If I get 2 or 3 years of use out of these at this price I'll be pretty happy. Same sort of replacement cycle as a mobile phone.
