Any idea if these are grey imports? and if so does that matter?

Haven't seen them go far below $300 often so thinking to lock in the purchase now, but I wanted to see if anyone has had experience with products from MyDeal. Thanks guys.

Noticed that they are $332.10 at the Sony student store. https://store.sony.com.au/students

Also noticed that there is a $10 off coupon if you purchase through the app.

  • Any idea if these are grey imports?

    Banner in the Description:

    Direct Import

    • Don't know how I missed that.

I'll Google to see if there are any reviews about the quality difference in international vs Australian stock for these.

      • After Googling, I can't tell if they are built in a different country to the Australian version so I'm going to assume the quality is the same.

The only issue might be trying to claim a warranty on these which I am willing to risk.

  • These the new latest models?

    • Yep, although I read rumours that new one may be announced in August 2022

Does it matter? Not if you're OK with flashing firmware.

My son bought a direct import previous model XM3 from Kogan and it was all in Chinese.

He had to flash an English firmware into it. I think it's OK now except the charging lights on the case don't really match the charging state of the earbuds.

    Sound quality is good though.

    • Yeah I did just this, it was in Chinese but the Sony Connect ios app has a setting to change the language

    • Tried price match at Sony, got a reply:
"Since the retailer that you have selected is a parallel importer, we are not able to match the price. Currently, overseas sellers/importers of Sony products are not eligible for price matching."
      WTF???

      • Telstra is a parallel importer? Sure hah

Proof that Sony support are clueless outsourced overseas labour who don't comprehend that Telstra is the biggest Telco company in Australia, not a typical online grey import electrical goods reseller. They likely read the scripted list of authorised electrical stores, anyone not on it is considered grey importer…
