Great find! Unfortunately I don't need any more subwoofers, lol.

Although I would rather this than the one I have.

    • +31

Well, firstly, you're wrong, always need more subwoofers.

And if you have 8 woofers, one in each corner of the room, well obviously change the room so it's an octagon, for more subs.

      • +2

No jokes, I did have 4 in the room at one point. Currently running only one sub, but will double up at a later point.

        • I had 14 in my Home Theatre room, but now down to 8. :).

          • +6

@lonewolf: Not sure whether to laugh or be concerned lol

            • +1

@montorola: I got to a point where i really couldnt upgrade some of my other gear, so whenever i felt the urge for retail therapy, only option was to get another sub if i saw a great deal. So I kept buying. All up between my place and my folks. I probably have about 20 subs although only using 8 of them at the moment :(. I definitely concur, the more the better to a point. I think 2 or 4 is a great combo and helps to make a more balanced sound regardless of where you sit. Saying that having a Sub EQ is extremely helpful with that.

              • @lonewolf: How do you hook up for to (1?) system?

              • +4

@lonewolf: Yeah, my hardest part is convincing the missus. She's the "I can't even tell the difference between your towers and the tv speakers". Really cuts me to the core. So I am also running the single pb2000 at the moment, couldn't get permission for a second (was only $850 in Gumtree too!) Sigh.

I'll build myself a couple Marty boxes one day I think though.

                • +1

@teereb: The best subs I had were these custom made sealed cabinets with 2 X 18inch top end drivers in each one. Amazing but frankly each cabinet with drivers weighed 150kg. Together 300kg. I basically could not fit them in properly into my room as well as it was just so hard to move them around..I had to sell them in the end.

                  • @lonewolf: Not an option to go the roof-mounted IB route?

I had one with 8 x 15" drivers (dual manifolds). Amazing to watch the drivers pump at 7Hz.

                    • @Astronaut Joe: Haha given the challenge of managing even 20hz sound waves in large buildings, 5, 10, 15 hz etc in a house or (pfff!) car car is purely a visual addition.

"Look how slowly the cone moves"

                      • @Lps: Believe me, until you've actually heard a sub - and we're not talking one-note doof subs here - that can really extend below 20Hz with significant SPL, and not be dramatically rolling off by that point, you simply can't understand the visceral difference it can make. The vast majority of people have never heard this level of bass performance as there is virtually nothing you can buy off the shelf, including the SVS monsters, that can come close to achieving it.

                        • +2

@Astronaut Joe: "people have never heard this level of bass performance"

That's because it can't be heard, only felt. I'm a sound engineer and have felt these sub waves many times. What I'm saying is they are so large that managing even 20hz (thats an 18metre wave) in a large commercial setting is a challenge. In a house its almost impossible such that any frequency below it is irrelevant and is simply lost in vibration/rumble.

                          • @Lps: ….which is why I described it as a "visceral difference". For general conversation though we're talking about a loudspeaker so "heard" is going to be a commonly understood term. Perhaps "experienced" would be better? But unless you're talking about something like the Thigpen rotary woofer there's going to be a mix of both heard and felt frequencies.

                            • +1

@Astronaut Joe: The Thigpen Rotary Woofer is considered snake oil in our business…but that's another conversation. You can certainly feel frequencies well below 20hz, ask me how I know, but 18, 15, 12 10…makes no practical difference other than becomes an annoying pulsating feeling. Even 20hz is bordering on irritating.

  • +1

Is this the Matt Moreman approved model?

  • +1

Good buying this. They’ve been $500-$650 on the second hand market for last year.

  • +2

Decent price. Damn I've already got a massive one

    • +12

      Ok ok quit your boasting.

    • +5

      What about the subwoofer?

    • Mine's 16"

  • +1

Such great timing!! Thanks so much for posting!! My old school Jamo packed it in and this is a much better replacement!! Perfect!!

  • Which speakers would be good with this, to complete the set

    • I saw your question was unanswered. I’m no audio expert but the sub will help almost all systems deliver a great bass/rumble for movie watching and satisfying low end to music. You will will need an amp that has a sub output. Plenty of online info to research to make your own informed decision. This deal was a good buy for a great sub. 12 inch is nice size.

      • +1

12 inches is a bit too big for me.

  • Great price. I have a PB-2000 Pro, certainly it packs a fair bit more punch than this model but at $674 there's nothing to complain about.

    • I've got the 16" ultra + the Micro 3000… Micro for the bedroom is AWESOME. Never managed to get the 16" to sound great without breaking my house, standing waves… corner bass traps made a difference but the sweet spot is still about 1m above me. Sit down = OK, stand up = bass wham.

  • +1

Link doesn’t work. Probably getting ozbargained :)

    • Yeh me neither. OBd no doubt!

  • +1

Still got the trusty old sb12s (400w) after 8 years

  • Outrageous value

  • What's better between this and a Q Acoustics QB12?

    • +4

      This.

    • +1

SVS are generally regarded (on whirlpool) as the best subwoofers you can get at this price range

  • Shit, already have sb1000pro.

  • Daayum…. can get a pair for a bit more than normal! Great deal!!

  • +1

@BROKENKEYBOARD You rotten miserable sod, tempting me with a sub that's too big to fit under my bed. Sorry, no christmas card for you this year. 😁
Great find, price and sub! Got it's PB brother in the lounge.

    • Now there's an idea that had never crossed my mind. To put the subwoofer under my bed! Genius! Now to see if it'll fit my bed haha

  • +1

Wouldn't think twice about buying another SVS product. High quality bass pump out of these things

  • I'm unable to add to cart

    • same here - probably a bunch of ppl stock piling on it

      • +2

Fomo kicks in at 30 positive votes. Then it gets ozbargained.

  • these will go great with jamos i brought i while ago https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/87258

  • +2

    Buy 2, thank me later

    • +2

Yes sir, finally got my order through for a pair (website was crashville). Will ask the better half for forgiveness later…

      • +1

Don't worry, she'll enjoy these more than you would* lol

  • Brilliant find. This is a no brainer for anyone looking for a sub

  • I've owned this model for several years (got it for ~$900). I had to replace the amplifier inside it once, it was done under warranty and the process was painless. Otherwise, I love it a lot and it works great in my mid-sized living room. I've paired with q-acoustic spears.

  • Do recommend a mini DSP to EQ the subs into a setup; because these have integrated DSP the response is flat which can often create noticable peaks at certain frequencies in many rooms, subs with a more natural rolloff you wouldn't notice this as much.
    Speaking from experience.

  • Purchase finally went through. Hopefully they have stock to complete the sales

  • +1

I can still buy 10, please continue to buy as pairs :D Site is back

  • +1

Ended up getting one since i'm literally missing a sub for my HT - SVS subs are all the rave so thought eff it.

  • Black Ash OOS?

  • I have an old skool PB-12NSD with the Sledge Amp and even after close to 10 years I have never once had the urge to upgrade. SVS are the value king and at this price, it is a no brainer.

  • +1

Site is OzB'd. West Coast Hi-Fi need to upgrade their servers.

  • Site is down

  • Very tempting! Currently running a mix match of subs.. an older model Klipsch 10", Wharfdale SW150 and a Yamaha 10". Would I see much improvement selling off those 3 and running 1 of these? The room is small but open to the rest of the house through a passage way.

    • +1

Get a pair of SVS Sb1000. If Music is the only thing you want to improve, get REL T9x (pair would be a dream setup).

      • $2600ea!

      • I'm pretty happy with musical performance as I have Yamaha NS-777 towers, I'm mainly looking for that punch in the chest feeling.

      • Replaced an SB1000 in my music setup recently with one of Rel's home theatre subs, and even that is much more musical than the SVS. Really, really curious to see one of their music subs in action!

The SVS now going hard in a theatre setup. Definitely goes deeper and louder than the Rel, but it never seemed to gel with music as well.

        • I had a Rel HT 1205, it was a definite upgrade over Sb 2000 previous model. Now I have T9x, I feel like I have new pair of ears.

I might get two predators or a pair of T9x.

REL feels in your chest, the impact is huge. The speed is lightening fast.

    • I've heard that SVS subs sh*t all over any thing else in the same price range - well at least on most forums…. even the SVS center speakers are some of the best money can buy.

  • Site down for anyone else?

    • Yes OZB has taken it down. They need better servers.

  • Site is back no Ash

  • Hmm site back up but price for both colours $749

  • +4

Hi All, we had a surge in traffic which resulted in having to pull the product from the website. Anyone who placed an order will be contacted tomorrow WA time. Cheers

    • Is it still available to purchase at 674?

      • No sorry, we had very limited numbers. Those who have purchased will be contacted tomorrow regarding options

        • +2

Meh! If it's a very limited number, then it's not an OZB deal.

        • Oh boy.

        • By limited number do you perhaps man 10-15 of them?

        • +2

Just got a call from a very confused and overwhelmed rep. They are going to call again later on.

  • This or Yamaha NS-SW300 for $500 delivered?

    • Definitly this.

      • You were supposed to say the Yamaha one!!

I bought it yesterday on special for $500 new on ebay. Is the SVS SB1000 really going to be that much of an improvement? Worth a 34% increase in price? Surely not lol

        • +1

Don't think too much on this. SB-1000 is approx $900. And you will not get 50% improved performance for sure. :)
Also this version of woofer (sealed box) is good for Audiophiles. For hometheater systems ported are the best.

          • @BargainBuddy: Haha yessss you have convinced me of my good purchase, thank you kind sir!

        • possibly yes.
This is a matter of opinion of course, but the general audio community consensus suggests that the entry level subwoofers from the well known subwoofer manufacturers - SVS, HSU, RSL, REL, Rythmik etc. are in a league of their own in terms of price/performance value.

          • @Khartoum: I'm sure I won't know a difference and happy to save the $174 tbh haha. Plus it matches with my yamaha soundbar :D

        • +1

SVS SB-1000 > Yam NS-SW300…. 12" vs 10" driver. Higher power limit. SVS has proven itself to perform extremely well time and time again. Worth 34% ($170) extra? imo, yes.

          • @NixMo1: Shame it's hard to get the American ID subs. They are on another level. I have managed to get a few Seaton subsonics and would love to try out some of the JTRs as well as a couple of the other brands that are ID. Can't compete with them for price.

            • @lonewolf: Agreed. I tried to import a pair of HSU subs a few years back but had a heart attack when I saw freight costs.

  • i was super triggered that i missed this deal, but my slipper'd foot is gently rubbing against my white gloss version.

    • It's still good even at $750. These usually sell for around $1000 new

      • This is the older version. The updated version is selling for $998.

        • What difference does the newer version have?

  • I know deal is done now, but how would a 10" 100w Yamaha sub compare to this? It's a fairly older model:

    https://www.newegg.com/global/au-en/yamaha-yst-sw216bl/p/N82…

    • A third of the power…

    • +2

That Yamaha is basically a child’s toy compared to this. Avoid.

      • Haha thanks guys, will definitely keep an eye out and be quicker next time!

  • Great bang for your buck

  • +4

Hope you do a deal on the SVS PB-3000 one day, super keen!

  • And here I was thinking a little Voll S8 sub would be ok for my "needs". Then I read this thread :)

    • The SVS subs are pretty heavy duty man - those other, cheaper subs are great for bass, but this one is (apparently) for really great for high quality bass.

  • +1

just got a confirmation email for my 2 subs
