this is standard. They always had these deals. it's free entry and free vip area and service and sometimes first drink free but then you and guests pay for your own drinks. That's how they make money.
We held two of these through uni and the catch was we had to find at least xxx number of people to attend. It's the only way to generate traffic and business.
There's really nothing to it except free entry and a reserved seating space.
