  • Can anyone suggest monitor which comes close to Apple Studio Display. I have tried other dell monitors but something about apple display that are glossy and are much more better at rendering text. I think LG Ultrafine 5K comes close to it, i want to see more option for something around 800$.

    • Not sure if this is what you're looking for, but came to my mind when reading your comment ; https://youtu.be/jFdtJzAgPtA

    • Only Apple does glossy nowadays, of all the trends manufacturers copy, glossy screens wasn't one of them.

Alternative is the good ol lcd + driverboard

      panel

      driverboard

About $600 plus materials for stand and power cable (officially detachable)

You'll need to diy a stand for it or buy an old 27" mac and slot it all in there for that mac swag.

  • why is it still at this price? I thought there was now an M8

    • I’m hoping the prices drop further when the M8 comes out

  • So, my work laptop has an 8th gen intel processor and cannot support UHD. If I set my resolution to whatever the highest my laptop supports, will this screen look okay?
My current UHD monitor turns off the pixels that aren't used, rather than upscaling. And that results in huge borders.

    • 8th gen intel processor and cannot support UHD

Which model you have? I think they support 4k

      https://ark.intel.com/content/www/us/en/ark/products/graphic…

      • To add to this, what laptop and what cable are you using?

      • Sorry, I should have been clearer. Thanks for your support here. It's an i5 8365U and is limited to 4k@30hz - which I find unbearable. The mouse moves so slow it makes me dizzy.

        • Which laptop is it exactly - make and model. Im thinking you are you on a Lenovo X1 (possibly yoga gen 4) - that laptop does have hdmi out limited to 4k@30hz but the usbc dp-alt/thunderbolt does upto 5k @60hz

also let us know the current UHD monitor make and model.

          • @ccrap: Dell Latitude 5300 2-in-1

Current UHD is an oldie - but I haven't upgraded it because I'm worried about compatibility. Acer CB280HK.

    • Depends on the resolution you're outputting. I've used 32" @1440p and it looks ok. I much prefer 28"@1440p.
My in-laws have 32"@1080p max and it's horrendous.

    • My previous 8th gen iCPU could comfortably do UHD, but was limited to 30Hz depending on the cable. I've got a woefully underpowered Intel compute stick with an Atom processor that can do 4k@30Hz as well, so I'd suggest yours is more than able to.

    • If you have one of the dodgy Dell ones that only supports 1080p through HDMI then a USB 3.0 Wavlink converter will give you 4k@30hz - I've got exactly that config…..

Postscript - would not have brought the dodgy Dell if I had known in 2020 that a hdmi would have only supported 1080p.

    • My laptop is an 8th gen Intel and I can run at 4K60 with this monitor.

      • How are you achieving that, though? I have a USB3 hub that supports 4k60hz but only gives me 4k30hz when I plug in a HDMI cable.

        • Mine only supports 4k@30… It's an older version of https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B093VPD2ZN/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_i_3…

          • @CachePC: I think you need a USB-C hub with 4k 60hz support.

            https://www.amazon.com.au/s?k=USB+C+HUB+with+UHD+60HZ&crid=I…

            Your hub spec said this

【High-Definition Video】USB to HDMI adapter transmit video or image from your USB3.0/ USB C to your HDTV, monitor, or projector with HDMI or DVI port, support resolutions from 640x480@60Hz up to 3840x2160@30Hz. USB 3.0 Port supports high speed up to 5Gbps. (For USB 2.0 port, it also can achieve UHD 3840×2160. The DVI converter supports resolutions up to 1920 x 1080.)

How are you achieving that, though? I have a USB3 hub that supports 4k60hz but only gives me 4k30hz when I plug in a HDMI cable.

I just plug it in with a Type-C cable. It also works with the Type C hub with HDMI output that came with my laptop.

My laptop runs an i7-8550U which has 4K60 support. It does say the max res over HDMI is 4096 x 2304@24Hz and DP 4096 x 2304@60Hz. I'll test it over HDMI again to be doubly certain.

FWIW the XPS13 9370 which is also 8th gen can do 4K60.

    • It never really looks good when you're not running native resolution

      what make/model is your laptop?

      • Dell Latitude 5300 2-in-1.

        • +1

Does it have the USB-C Thunderbolt or DP option? Check the icons in this image
If so the M7 just plugs in with USB-C & I'd be confident you should get 4k@60hz.
Then also plug your wireless kbd/mouse dongle into the tv - the laptop will detect it and also charge the latop on the same usb-c cable.

          • @mlakmlak: Mate, you deserve heaps of good karma!
I have a Thunderbolt icon and will purchase an M7. Thanks a billion!
