  Doesn’t really feel like a bargain when you can get the Echo Show 8 for $59 here.
  I get they are different devices however I’m sure 99% of people will consider the 8 superior.

        Interested to know too, my Echo Spot (A round screen) is really small and looking for an upgrade. The $59 seems to have a bigger screen, should be a better deal?

          @onomatopoeia: Gen1 is a bit more laggy and camera is worse apparently. I don't think Gen2 is that fast either…
          Having used Echo Show 5 Gen 1 for a while now, it's basically a clock with ability to watch occasional youtube and amazon prime shows.
          I also integrated it with my arlo cameras, but it's not instant and I haven't tweaked with it that much since.
          I don't know what else I can use it for.

          Compared to your echo dot, sound is improved too, more bass.

        I got Gen 2 echo 5 and was disappointed to find it dropped the 3.5mm headphone jack. Just got the Gen 1 echo 8” from the deal recently posted as it has the headphone jack for plugging in old stereo or powered speakers.

      What? Have you honestly looked at the difference between Gen 1 and Gen 2? They upgraded from a 1mp camera to a 2mp camera and REMOVED the aux port on the back… I think I’d actually prefer the Gen 1 lol

      Both the Gen 1 “Show 8” and Gen 2 “Show 5” use the same processor. They are basically the same device with a better camera, bigger screen and better speakers for $10 less… I thought this was Oz Bargain?

  I have a couple of Gen1, and useful mainly as a glorified bedside clock only and occasional youtube. Got it for less than Echo dot so can't complain.
