    The 250ohm are fantastic

    • +2

That was fast. I literally posted this 31 seconds before you commented xD
I bought the 32 ohm ones because supposedly the 250 ohm ones need an amp to drive them.

I'm not quite invested enough (i.e. I'm too poor) to buy an amp :')

      • +2

The 250ohm work just fine out of my iPad or MacBook, yes you’ll have to drive it about 70% instead of 25% but it works fine for me ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

        • -4

Wait for some audiophiles to drop in here and tell you that you MUST have a separate amplifier for these :)

          • @kackstelze: i only have the 80 ohm and my motherboard struggled to drive them, they were way too quiet without amp. you might get away without an amp, or you might not. i went for the 80 ohm because they were supposed to be able to be driven without an amp

          • +3

@kackstelze: I mean, you don't have to have one, but you'll have a better time with them if you do. Saying that, Apple products usually have half decent amps in them so it's not as much of an issue. Cheap motherboards on the other hand… yeah…

          • @kackstelze: Must and recommended is different champ.
Depends if you want to get the most out of your sound.

Recommended getting the 32 ohm version if you don't intend on getting an amp.

Most people will get one if it's for a home setup, these aren't aimed at portable (as they are pretty large, and must phones don't even have a hp jack anymore.

  • I own 80 ohm, it’s good.

  • had the 80 ohm for near a decade and they are still going strong. just replaced the cups last year.

  • PRO-X series is out

  • The 990s are so good, I want to buy a second pair just to take advantage of this price.

    • bought it… do you use an amp? I would assume so but I don't have one. Will probably give it a go without and then see if I can justify splashing out…

      • +1

I did the same, I do use an amp. They worked fairly well without an amp, but an amp unleashes their true potential.

        • +1

Thanks for the reply. Any recommendations on an amp to use? Given the headphones were only ~$160 I find it hard to justify spending hundreds on one but who knows…

          • @BarneyKB: I'm currently using a Creative Soundblaster X3. But the soundblasterX G6 is also a strong reccomendation. Both are <$200.

    • How much does the sound leak out for the open back?

  • Thanks bought the DT 900 Pro X for $221 to replace my HyperX Cloud which has had no audio coming from the left side since December.

  • Thinking of upgrading from the OG ath-m50 that I have been using for 10 years. Which should I get??

Edit: Typical use is for listening to music, video editing at home

    • If you still want a closed back, it's the AKG K371.

    • I'd stick with closed back since you're used to the m50s, you might find open backs abit anaemic in bass, plus the beyer treble might shock you. I've had the 770, 880 and T1 and really caution people about beyers treble

I'd second the k371 suggestion above. Harman curve tuning is a safer bet.

      • Thanks but looking at beyerdynamic for couple of years but haven't done the research. If choosing between 32, 80 and 250 ohm, which one to go for?

Also, what does beyer treble sound like that you caution others?

Thanks jasswolf, but looking for beyerdynamic, only because it's design and been waiting for price drop

Dammit! Everything within my budget is no longer within my budget!

        • +2

Depends on your current set up. Do you want to plug it straight from your computer? Do you have a collection of flacs or a tidal account? You already have a dac? 80ohms if no.

250ohm would be "best" but honestly without having all side by side, i dont think its worth having to spend an extra $150 for a dac/amp combo.

Treble in one word is sibilant. If you have an eq like peace on you computer, crank up your treble at around 8.3khz by about 7-10db. That spike gives it nice air but makes any "S" sound dig into your head, its sharp.

I know youve made your mind about the beyers but honestly give the K371 an audition before buying. Theyre better for just listening to music imo, works on all genres.

  • dt 770 pro 250 ohms sold out already lols.

$120 is about right for the quality level these are today. Tonally whack, comfortable and consistent fit, wide stage, but competitive at $100-$130.

If you can live through the treble murder, they probably dial in a bit better after 2-4 months of pad wear, but you've also got the option of the AKG K371 for closed, and open back you've got the Sennheiser 6XX, 560S, the HIFIMAN HE400SE, and the AKG K612 Pro.

    • +1

the ones you recommended are more expensive tho?

      • They pop up in Amazon sales for $150-$170. Then you can get discounted gift cards and cashbacks.

    • +1

How's the build quality on the K371 nowadays? IIRC they (or was it the 361's?) had some issues with the hinge. Whereas by all accounts the DT770s and 990s have rock-solid build

      • +1

They are more flimsy than Beyers, which are designed for professional use and fitment consistency required, but they are through the early issues AFAIK.

      • They’re absolute junk. I have one pair with a floppy hinge (will not stay in place) and another with deformed earpads (returned).

Beyerdynamics are in a completely different league.

      • They're pretty plastic, mines pretty loose now that it will adjust itself when wiggled.

My T1's tensioner mechanism broke after 2 years, feels like it's all rusted now when adjusting the headband. So not German tank like how everyone makes it out to be, but definitely leagues ahead of the akg.

Now I either spend $250 on a new headband or a new pair of k371s.

  • Damn this is probably the cheapest I have ever seen these. I use the 770 pro 80 ohm for gaming, they're great. Also have the MMX 300's. At these prices I feel like picking up another to try!

  • Absolute bargain.

  • +3

Looks like some went back to original price?

    • Hmm, yeah. Only the 990 Pro (non-X) seems to still be down :O

      • Or not. For some reason, the prices seem to change…I refresh the page sometimes and they're back down. Other times, they're back to full :/

  • Anyone know how these compare to the Sony mdr1am2? Deal of the day: Sony MDR1AM2 Wired High Resolution Audio Overhead Headphones, Black https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B07BCBT3KC/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_i_d…

    • They’re great for that price. My only qualms would be not being able to try them first to see if you find them comfortable.

  • Price error

    • Nope. Just got mine today :D

  • +1

    That didn't last long.

  • +1

Where the (profanity) did 7 people bob up from just to downvote my comment? LOL

  • So was this a pricing error or legit? Mwave never discount these much

  • My 770s cost me $550 20 years ago. This was an insane price.

  • +1

NOOO I have been waiting so desperately for so long to get a pair and I missed the deal.

    • Me too!!

  • Gah. I always miss mwave bargains. I'd have been on those 80Ohms like a shot.

  • Was this a price error?

    • +1

I haven't gotten anything regarding an order cancellation/modification. But they have only been open for an hour today.

      • +1

Despite missing out while doing last minute research on which to get, I hope you get yours honoured. Thanks for sharing the deal

    • +1

      Mine got dispatched

    • +1

No need to neg me :(
Was just checking so I know the level of sad to have for missing out on the deal

  • +1

I have owned 2 pairs of DT 770 (80 Ohm version) since about 2011. Only needed the second par because after about 6 years I accidentally left them in an airport. I cannot recommend these highly cans enough. I have amplified them via a variety of headphone and desktop headphone amps which improve the sound even further. I'd consider myself to have exceptionally picky tastes when it comes to headphones but these ticked all the boxes and they've been a pleasure to use since. I still use them nearly daily and they're sitting right next to me as I type this.
