Would suggest saving up for something with a 6R35/6R15 movement and sapphire crystal.

1 automatic watch should be enough, at least daily wearing will keep the watch wound.

    • +5

      You'll be spending a lot more than $220-oidd for a Seiko with sapphire and a 6 calibre….

You need to go for a "King" something or other to get sapphire in the Prospex range at least, and if you want a 6 calibre as well, then you're looking at a Sumo for example for $699. Not really the same market.

      • -5

        Yes, they are different.

I guess what i am trying to say is, one automatic watch is enough for most people not using it as a dress up accessory.

And 700$ for a sumo is not unaffordable, a much better watch for the money.

Rather rather than having 3 of these cheaper Seiko 5, 1 sumo will be more worthwhile.

4R35 at cir. 40 hours means one should have 2 Seiko 5 and needs to rotate Every day just to keep them wound.

Personally, I would rather a cheap plastic Casio + a sumo than 2-3 Seiko 5s. Which costs about the same.

    • hand-winding it for 10-20 seconds every day will also keep it ticking over.

of course 1 auto should be enough but no watch collector stops at just one, especially with the array of colours and designs out there.

      • -4

M… Yes, watch "collector". Seiko 5 is definite not the watch to collect.

Hand winding is detrimental to the movement and increase wear and tear.

        I will see myself out.

        • +2

          I will see myself out.

that's too bad, i was hoping you'd instruct me on what watches to collect instead.

    Seiko 5 SRPD75 $223 Delivered
This one is made in japan apparently reading through the reviews.
    Looks very unique

    • I was just going by the dial images - the ones at the bottom all have 'Made in Japan' at the base of the dial. If the SRPD75 is also MIJ, that's a pretty good buy!

      • +1

Tempted to buy it to add to my collection of unworn watches lol

      • I thought all seiko must be made in japan?

        • Some are made in Malaysia, K is outside Japan, J is Japan.

  • Here’s a review of the most interesting one imo the green with the Milan strap. However I skip this time. I really want to buy a watch to wear and I’m just not sure. https://youtu.be/w3ugsiw1Ddo

  • Why called bezel less? They all have bezel…

    • +2

Bezel less as in they dont have the rotating dive timer bezel.

  • +2

    better than a moonswatch…

  • Just started my watch collection on Saturday, are these any good ? I know seiko is quite reputable

    • +1

Can't really go wrong with a Seiko

    • +1

Depends what you like and what your budget is. The Dress-KX, as some of these are referred to (e.g. SRPE65) can be dressed up or down to fit many different occasions. Being Seikos they are also very moddable, if that's your thing. A nice sapphire crystal and a decent bracelet will give you a great timepiece for the money but, to the point @Domicron made, you'd then be getting closer to Seiko 6R calibre watches so the law of diminishing retuns would start to take effect quite quickly.

If you have a large enough wrist for it, the Sumo is an excellent, albeit quite chunky watch but there are plenty of non-Seiko alternatives out there, all keen to wrestle your hard-earned cash from you. Glycine Combat Sub anyone?

    • +1

Most Seikos are pretty good. IMO these models are all pretty basic, though that may be a good place to start if you are investing in a new collection.

Personally I prefer the higher-end Seiko models, except that Seiko have been pushing their prices up over the last 5 years, so what used to be higher-end $600-700 is now $900-1,500. IMO it's also true of the lower models - I don't think I see as many really cheap options as I used to.

As per other posters it depends what style you like. I would always try to get a Seiko with steel bracelet and sapphire if possible, and again those models tend to be the higher price.

But absolutely as part of a collection, a $200-300 Seiko is good bang for your buck, and if your collection increases over time, a cheaper Seiko can be a very good "beater".

  • There's a 20% off promo for anyone who hasn't ordered fashion items from amazon.com.au before - I just got the Seiko 5 SRPD75 for $178.40 delivered! :)

Anyone recommend a different bracelet or strap for it?

    • @axlos how do I redeem said promo? Cheers

      • +1

It seems to have disappeared from my amazon browsing pages now; possibly because I used it…
Perhaps it was a targeted thing..?

There was a highlighted 'Promotions' button just above the price and range selections..

I'll post back again if I can find it..

The code I used was '1stOrder'

        • @axlos that worked for me, thanks!

  • Does anyone find the design to be archaic and ugly? Does anyone feel the same?

    • I actually like the design.
What does watchnerd think about it

      • The Seiko SKX007 is one of my favourite watches, but I don't like the way they look without the bezel.

    • I love the old school dive watch design. The Milan band is not my favourite though.. I might try a nylon or silicon band on this..

Update: marked deal as unexpired - two watches are still available. Check prices between AU and US to see if it's worth the wait to get it from US for a few cents cheaper.

    • Seiko 5 SRPE65 is $210 Delivered @ Amazon AU now.

      • +1

They then had a further 20% off discount on this price. Bought this watch for $168, and it's the made in Japan version as well!
