Seagate Gaming Halo Reach Special Edition Xbox Game Drive 5TB - $119 (Was $219) C&C/ in-Store Only @ The Good Guys

440

Type: Game Drive
Colour: Green
Storage Capacity: 5TB
What's In The Box: Seagate Game Drive for Xbox Halo Infinite Special Edition Hard Drive, 18 inch (45.72 cm) USB 3.0 cable, Quick Install Guide
Manufacturer's Warranty: 36 months

Reviews not very promising but personally I do not care with that price and 36 months warranty. With IT equipment mostly it can be hit and miss and we know reviews only comes either when product is extremely good or when it does not work for someone. If it just does the job, not many people bother to write reviews.

EDIT: It seems product is "Halo Infinite Special Edition Game Drive for Xbox 5 TB" there is mismatch in the title on their site and description.

Review is not too good and this is definitely smr drive

      smh

      • +1

Can I please ask what is SMH drive and is it regarded bad for everyday use?

        • +7

SMR is Shingled Magnetic Recording. Lets you fit more data on a single hard drive platter by overlapping the bits of information like shingles on a roof.

Fine for write-once, read-many applications, but if you want to edit the data, you also need to modify the overlapping bits around it, like redoing shingles on a roof you can't just replace one shingle if it's nestled under others.

Write speeds okay, read speeds not good.

Sorry, brain fart. Initial write speed okay, read speed fine, it's when you're trying to modify existing data, or write to a section of a drive that already has data that it bogs down.

          • @OZKap: Thanks a lot and how to check if it's SMH? I bought a Seagate Expansion HDD yesterday 5tb. How can I check or do you know if it is SMH? I want to use for plain simple data backup only.

            • +3

@ashftc: It's SMR, not SMH :) I think King Steuart was making a joke.

              • -1

@Zorlin: Yup SMR :) Do you know if Seagate Expansion 5TB is one of those?

                • +1

@ashftc: Yes. All portable (2.5") drives over 2TB are SMR.

                  • @lorikeet: Is it just Seagate or other brands too?

                    • +1

                      @ashftc: Probably all brands.

SMR is not that big a deal unless you frequently write a lot of data. The drives have a CMR cache and as long as the cache is not filled it will not slow down significantly.

Would never use spinning rust again but kinda want it just for the Halo theme

    • +9

Shuck it and put an ssd inside? :P

    • +15

Pretty sure some moron didn't check the original listing in the site which shows “Halo Reach.” Wish I could paste a screenshot here so some morons won’t have to whinge.

      • +1

Oh, well maybe I should have explained better, but I meant the actual listing and not the post.

    • +1

      I don't get it?

Edit: oh it's an Infinite edition not Reach. I thought it was just really old stock from the 360 days lol.

  • +1

oos for delivery and instore. maybe just me seem like a clearance. maybe new drive coming? new theme should say. LOL

    • Likely trying to price match gaming hard drive on Microsoft site but Microsoft is selling 2TB in this price. When I looked initially 3 stores in SE Melbourne had stock.

BTW that negative vote is not from me :-)

Springvale, Moorabin and Brighton stores still shows stock.

    SSD?….

    • +1

      I wish :)

    • +2

Yeah, it's a 5tb SSD (do they even exist?) and it's just over $100 and it's portable.

      Hop to it :)

      Seriously.

      • +1

One day that'll become a reality. But we'll have 100tb SSDs costing over $500

    • Whoosh!

  • +1

    Lowest ever for 5tb?

    • +1

No way, there’s a guy here who paid $100 years ago for one.

  • Can this just be used as a regular everyday, non gaming backup drive?

    • +1

You can definitely use it for media. It will ask you on the Xbox how you want to format it.

    • +1

Yep, it's just a normal drive with a halo theme.

    • Any other halo infinite branded hardware on sale?

  • How long would it take to transfer 100gb to/from it, assuming I'll still play on the console SSD?
    I've got a Samsung T5 but it's only 1tb

    • Just move everything overnight.

      • -4

What if you want to play overnight… ?

        • +3

It'll take less time than posting stupid comments.

    • Should be around 20 min (assuming ~100MB/s).

  • Appears to be no pick up or delivery in NSW

    • +1

SE Melbourne has still 3 stores with stock.

Moorabbin, Springvale and Brighton. All are close to each other's (10kms give or take).

    • Just checked, Chatswood and Bankstown have it

      • +2

But when check out it says no stock.

  • I wonder if this could be a collector item?

    • They wouldn't discount it that much of it was that collector.

      • +2

Lol that's not how it works. I got my N64 on clearance from EB for $30. Now it's a collectors item.

Not saying this will become a collectors item (in fact I'm almost certain it won't), but something being discounted in the present doesn't mean it won't be a valuable collectors item in the future.

    • +1

No. Never. It'll get old and be more prone to failure and will be slower and slower as new tech comes out.

  • +2

I bought this for about $220 around Dec and haven't had any problems with it. It's just used to store games for an Xbox that's used daily.

  • Anyone tried calling the stores that have it in stock?

    • Yes, the checkout page showed no store available for pick up but when I called the Chatswood (NSW) store they had stock and I was able to get one.

There was a few other at the front desk but I don't know if they are reserved and if there is more stock.

  • +1

No pickup or delivery in South Australia

    • Success…!!! Got the last on @Marion store. Even got the SB 8% discount in-store, since online said "nothing in 500ks of your location"…lofl

Just showed the Tech salesperson and it was authorised immediately

      $109.48 aft 8% discount ($9.52).

  • Can I use this for SeriesX or is this restricted to older XboxOne consoles?
    Cheers

    • You can use it for external storage, only for non Xbox Series X/S games. Anything X/S must be installed on the internal storage, or the rear mounted storage expansion card (NVMe).

      • This sucks! 1tb is stuff all today. The bloody nvme costs as much as a console.

      • You can use it for external storage, only for non Xbox Series X/S games.

You can store Xbox Series games on it, you just can't play them off it.

  • Yeah nah I had 3 Seagate portable 2.5" drives failed on me. Pieces of crap.
Seagate 3.5" drives are good though.

  • +1
  • Sb 8% cashback today

    • Yeah. Now to just find it available. Gonna head around the corner, as it's a 1min drive…🙏

      • +1

I doubt got any left in nsw

        • In SA. The CB wasn't working, but showed an employee, and got it down to $109.48.
Not as good as the $30 in-store Easter sms, that someone has commented, but equivalent at Officeworks is $239 (SGSTKL5000400)

      • +1

        Price match at JB.

  • +1

Great purchase! Bought it for $89 using $30 Easter in-store only credit that I received via sms. They had plenty at Hoppers Crossing. Thank you for the listing!

  • +2

Tried to buy this at the Good Guys, they were out , so went across to JB Hifi to price match. JB were selling the exact same HDD for $219. They price matched and sold me the unit. Kudos to JB hifi.
