[VIC] IKEA SYMFONISK Bookshelf Speakers $139 (RRP $199) (End of Line), 2 for $254 for IKEA Family Members Only @ IKEA Richmond

170

For those on the SONOS platform, this could work for you.
IKEA has 'quietly' EoL-ed their SYMFONISK Wifi Bookshelf Speaker
It's been taken off the IKEA (Au) site. I saw this at the Richmond (VIC) branch and it should be across all of their stores with the possibility of it being cheaper at other stores.
It's a cheap alternative to a SONOS PLAY1.
Alternatively if handy, you could gut it to get parts for a cheap SONOS Amp.

  • how good are these, can I use them as bluetooth/PC speakers?

    • +1

Good sounding speakers. Couldn’t use as Bluetooth as no Bluetooth only wifi. Could use airplay 2 on a mac.

        Guess That's why it's so cheap…

        • -1

no idea why you got neg. Airplay is a big hit and miss. I have 2 original homepods, 2 homepod minis. Excited when first bought them but now they're just gathering dust.

          • @trantonz: Perhaps because nobody forces you to use airplay.

They are not BT, but also it's not like you're taking them to the park. They're not cordless.

            • @pizzaguy: Well, nobody force me. As a normal consumer who's into Apple ecosystem, it's easier for me to justify buying homepods. However just because I'm into their ecosystem, does not mean I have to say good things about their products. If it does not work properly, I will tell people that it does not work properly. What's wrong with telling people what the actual experience is like?

          • @trantonz: Well, Apple fanboys just can't bear with any negative things about Apple …

            • +1

@HD9990: I'm Apple fanboys too but if any of their products is not good, I will tell people that it's not good. Bad products/ features need to be called out so they can be better in next generations.

            • @HD9990: I'm sure we were talking why you got negged.

I didn't neg you, but your mate, trantonz, got that "no Bluetooth only wifi. Could use airplay 2 on a mac" is a reason for it to be cheap, with which I disagree - Airplay is rather a bonus and these speakers aren't cheap because they are some proprietary protocol-only, but because they're simply wired speakers.

Then you label me as an Apple fanboy while I don't even airplay.

    • SONOS is great but its an audio ecosystem with its own app etc that you can use with their radio channels or Spotify etc

  • This or the Creative T100 speakers?

  • +1

Before someone comments the link to product is Ikea USA, so different pricing, looks like no AU link.

These were RRP$149 since launch - went to $199 recently now reduced to $139 for clearance 🙄

    • +2

Good point, less of deal then

    • +2

Yup I remember seeing them at 149 and thinking not bad for the price… Then walked past them at 199 a few months ago and took a double take

  • Cheers will check it out

  • Great speakers for rears in my sonos arc surround system.

    • +2

Wait till you hear play 3 or 5s as rears.

Anyways, i got rid of my sonos and built my 7.2 yamaha home theatre for free from fb marketplace giveaways.

It's only being EoL because a gen2 is on its way. Hasn't even released here yet, but available elsewhere.

    • +1

Sounds like gen 2 is a minor refresh - faster processor, more memory, lower standby power consumption, longer power cord, and changed button layout, but with the same physical dimensions and appearance.

      • Sq any better?

        • I haven't seen a comparison yet. That's the $139 question.

    • According to the product tag in the image, gen 2 is already available in black and white.

  • +1

I 3D printed brackets and put them under my kitchen island facing the tv.

  • These sound really good, just wish I used mine more.

  • +1

Just looked at my receipt, i have two bought in Jan to set up as SONOS TV surround rears as above
They were $149 ea but I got 5% off so $141.60 ea., love the rest of my SONOS stuff but the ‘deal’ aspect is questionable

    • Exactly

    • They are selling for around 50 on fb marketplace. At that price i would mod it as an amp

      • I haven't been able to find any in Adelaide at all. eBay prices were more than regular retail!

  • Also useful if you want to hack the thing to use as a gateway to run a non-sonos powered subwoofer with your Arc, Beam, Playbar or Playbase. I use them in our family bedrooms though as they're decent enough for that purpose

    • Cant you just use a sonis connect. They are cheap on fb marketplace
