Apples and oranges. Oxo quality runs rings around these cheapies

  • Thanks OP, bought one .

    • Get a few. Trust me ☺️

Do these have an aluminium or stainless steel rivet? Most brands have aluminium ones that degrade over time in the dishwasher which I feel is planned obsolescence.

    • +2

When that happens I replace it with a stainless steel bolt. Will last forever then.

      • +1

please share link to bolt, as i'm having a hard time looking for a right size.

        • +5

Look up sex bolt, gotta love engineering names.

          • +4

@Gusper: THANK YOU!! I've tried to buy bolts like these at various times for years and have had very little success finding what I need. Turns out I was just missing the right name.

It's been a while since two little words, one of which is sex, have made me so happy. 🙂

          • @Gusper: thanks! i still need to look for ones that'll fit the hinge systems of common sized tongs though. So was thinking if someone has already done so, would be easier to reference at.

it's also referred to chicago binding post and screw

            • +1

@slowmo: That name is no fun.

Checkout Amazon that's where I purchased my last ones. Chicago bolts tend to be book binders and brass, either will work, one is more fun.

          • @Gusper: Useful for me too, thanks!

          • @Gusper: Don't image-search that…

I'm a one-handed Tong kinda guy - you know, squeeze the tongs the aluminium ring slides up allowing the tongs to open - squeeze again, slides down, locked in place.

None of this two-handed tong opening/closing for me…

My perfect set of tongs would have a ring at the end, like to OXO or similar, to allow you to hang when not is use (but lets face it, when youre standing at the BBQ, the tongs stay in the hand!)

A bottle opener incorporated into the handle.

    Silicon Tips - No scratchy… (removable… hhhmmmmm…)

And the aforementioned Sliding Loop Lock for ease of opening/closing one-handed…

    —- Wish List —-

Built-in LED Light on bendable arm (rechargeable (solar?))

    Temperature checker attachment

    Butter/oil dispenser.

Wifi (everything's better with Wifi) or IoT

    • With skill these are perfectly lockable and unlockable with one hand.

Sausages stand no chance against a dual wielded pair

    • This guy tongs.

I recently threw all mine out and got the Joseph Joseph Duo Lockable Tongs for $16
which don't get food trapped in them, are not difficult to clean and don't rust. And they have non-stick feets so they don't touch surfaces.

Highly recommend. I will never go back to these aluminium basic tongs again.

    • +2

these look great, will wait for a sale!

    • +1

I like the little sticky out bit that means the tips don't touch the table. Great idea.

    • Can the Joseph tongs cut into meat?

    • +1

Whilst I await the Tong engineers of the world to unite and design and deliver to me the Tongs of my dreams (above), I too have ordered the Joseph Joseph Tongs of goodness.

I will pick up, thereby saving a fortune in shipping…

    • can i use those in a deep fryer? it says 200c……

      • You raise a valid point. I don't deep fry.

Although if I did I wouldn't even though the temps say you could potentially

        Deep frying food …. temperatures typically between 350 °F (177 °C) and 375 °F (191 °C), but deep frying oil can reach temperatures of over 400 °F (205 °C)

  • I received a $5 discount when I bought 2 (9" and 12"), bringing the total to $18.98. Not sure what the promotion was and it didn't show up until I started the checkout process.

    • I didn't get any discount when I added 2. You may have had a $5 credit sitting in your account

      • You may be right, but its hard to know. Out of interest, did you proceed to checkout from your cart? The discount didn't appear to me until I was at the "place your order" screen.

It showed as a discount when placing the order and now shows as a Promotion Applied when reviewing the order.
