super cool 2 in 1 chuck with lock. really with more brand start doing this.

    • I think a few do now but that's what attracted me to it as well. Shame it doesn't have enough torque to take advantage of the 1/2 drive though.

Any battery deal?! Battery is the most expensive part these days and they are making a lot of money selling them!

    • +1

Generics off eBay are fine. Bought several generations, multiple sellers

      • -1

They always use lower capacity cells. Thus cheaper. But work just for shorter time

        • -2

          Source?
Cos my first hand experience with originals & generics says you’re wrong. Even the minute you said “always”.

          • @Ulysses31: What do you search for when you're looking for generic batteries? Didn't find a lot when I just tried but interested in trying..

They're charging less for a reason, they skimp out everywhere.

So yeh your drill still works but won't last as long on charge and over its lifetime too.

And a lot of people will be happy with that lower life. That's fine. If you're using them casually it wouldn't matter

            • @aoeueoa: Agreed. Marketing and branding, and probably some extra protections inside cost a lot. Others are happy to pay for FUD.
My guys & I run OEM & generics side by side. All the same to us.

  • i was going to get a makita, should i just get this instead?

    • Get the one you already have batteries for and failing that get the better spec one (which is likely the Makita). This is a good price though which is hard to ignore but tools are a long term investment.

    • +1

I'm in the Bosch system now
But there is a greater range of price and gear for Dewalt and Makita.

    • -1

No argument definitely go Bosch blue over Makita if you are looking for a system

      • Funny how people have widely different opinions and experience. Makita appears to have more tools in the range (including garden tools if that's of interest) and in my experience the quality of Bosch has been slowly declining. I'm not particularly a fan of Makita either and have had bad luck with those that I've owned but if someone told me I had to choose between those two brands it'd be Makita. I'd happily trade my Bosch Blue tools for the equivalent Ryobi One+ model.

        • It IS funny! BTW I only recommend the blue if comparing between the two. if not, then Milwaukee or Metabo. From actual hands-on personal usage experience, not fanboi or heard a mate of a mate talking about a mate's stuff blah blah blah…

        • yes, I have the Bosch system, but am frustrated that there are no garden tools. I need a hedge trimmer and need to buy some other crap.

    • Another thing to think of is actual usage. Ryobi (for example) has a shit ton of skins. But they’re all toys.

I ask myself what MUST be cordless. Used on top of a ladder, hang a few off your waist etc.

And everything else is bought corded. Better tool, smarter spend. But everyone’s usage really is different.

I've had this for a year… I use it to work on my car but I find that my breaker bar does a better job to loosen really tight bolts. I now only use it to take the already loosened bolts off quicker haha

    • That really means it is unfit for purpose. Wheel nuts, etc should be a breeze for an impact. This model does look suspiciously small to be useful.

      • People get confused thinking an impact driver is an impact wrench. Two similar but different spec tools. I have the previous version of this and it's fine for driving small screws (which is it's real purpose) or removing nuts that have already been cracked etc but it doesn't have enough torque for work where an impact wrench should be used which is why I said in another post you can't take advantage of the half drive despite the combination of 1/2 square and 1/4 hex drives in one tool. Any fastener large enough to require 1/2 drive you're not going to be able to break free using this. Even the latest version of this tool only has around 200nm of torque but they quote it in inch pounds so it's a big number to impress the uniformed.

      • Yeah I find that bolts that I've torqued to 150nm or more takes a long time to loosen and is super loud… A 60cm breaker bar does the job with less effort 😅
