  • They never have special deals on weekends, which is the only days I have time to go out to eat. :(
This is a great deal, even if it's only small servings.

  • I had no idea that there are only 7 Ikeas in all of Australia! Why so few??

    • Because they need a huge block of land (usually close to Hyw) to build and hence the cheaper prices.

    • Ikea is planning to build at least two more… including one in Campbellfield (VIC), set to become the biggest in Australia (and only five minutes from my house gulp)

      • Well, luckily the one in Richmond is less than 4km from me :P

      • if it's gunna be the biggest in australia then it'll be the biggest in the southern hemisphere

      • At the Pipeworks Market site I understand. Great access from the ring road.

"Revive yourself at the IKEA Restaurant and Café with a plate of our scrumptious fish and chips for only $2! (Normally $7.95)"

IKEA food is powerful stuff. Not only is it cheap, but it also brings dead customers back to life :-)

    • +4

Revive doesn't mean resurrect. They're two different words.

      • the term revive was used correctly and you understood what it meant. "an ambulance officer was able to revive the patient using cpr" is a common term

        • What may be in common use is not always correct use!
I have cancelled my trips to the graveyard - it did not work ;)
No matter how many times you apply CPR or other marvels of medicine to a legally dead person, it will not bring them back to life. Hence the term dead!
(The ambos are bringing back health & vital signs to a person who would probably die with out their help, not bringing people back from actual death. But 'back from death' sounds better on the news!)

But, you are also (partialy) correct as the word is derived from 'back (to) live'. It is used by Ikea in a different, but also correct way.

Luckily, 'Driver Reviver' stops for tired motorists does not only mean what you think it does!! www.driverreviver.com.au/ "Zombie drivers lower the road toll"??? LOL!

      • i dont know why you feel the need to attack peoples grammar. its mean

      • Incorrect kwaker.

The use of revive assumes the person is not already dead.
If you read what Cluster wrote, he said it brings DEAD customers back to life.
You cannot revive someone who is dead, hence why I said resurrect.

I appreciate your firm stance on grammar. Henceforth you are now a superhero, I dub thee

Only problem - revive has more than 1 meaning (like a lot of words), but is used here in the sense of impart strength & vigour to the consumer.
(As it is not possible by definition to bring people back to life after death, in common use it is used in the sense of bringing a person back from a state approaching death, but not legally defined as dead. At least outside Zombie movies!)

        http://www.thefreedictionary.com/revive
        1. To bring back to life or consciousness; resuscitate.
        2. To impart new health, vigor, or spirit to.

        http://oxforddictionaries.com/definition/revive
        1. regain life, consciousness, or strength: she was beginning to revive from her faint
        2. give new strength or energy to: the cool, refreshing water revived us all
        3. restore interest in or the popularity of: many pagan traditions are being revived
        4. improve the position or condition of: the paper made panicky attempts to revive falling sales
from Old French revivre or late Latin revivere, from Latin re- 'back' + vivere 'live'

        • Not sure what your point is here.

Anyway, you can be Grammartron's sidekick, Grammario.

Done & underwear printed. Am honoured by the (lesser) title. I look nice in my cape. (I use the lower case 'g' to Grammartron's 'G'.) But Mummy won't let me wear it outside.

A lot of pointless heated discussion on these threads seems more about grammar than the deal. Debating 2 correct meanings of the same word? (but only 1 in this context, shown by grapedrink)
Just having fun with the pointlessness.

        • :)

      • When Pokemon faint they can be revived using "Revive". But "Revive" doesn't work on a dead pokemon.

        Case closed.

    • What a morbid discussion!

  • is IKEA in Melbourne reachable by public transport??

would love to go there to eat and shop but have no idea if I can get there by tram and or train and or bus. Anyone know?

New to melb and vehicles are in QLD.

    • +1

Yes, Victoria Garden via the 109 Tram to Box Hill.

    • +1

Victoria Gardens is - jump on the 109 tram from the city.

Mind you, by the time you've paid a tram fare, its no cheap meal.
There may also be a bus option up Burnley St from Burnley rly station. Or you could walk, its only a 24 minute walk according to google maps, or about 17mins the pace I walk.

    • Thanks you two! Kindly appreciated.

Just to confirm (because I have no sense of direction whatsoever of Melbourne geography), the tram stop at IKEA is near or outside IKEA and I would see the big IKEA store before the stop?

Just a bit paranoid as I've gotten off the wrong stops a few times on the trams because there are too many specific stops.

      • +2

You can use ptv.vic.gov.au/ to ease the paranoia. Mind you missing an IKEA sounds pretty difficult.

      • +1

just outside ikea. you'll see it. big blue building.

      • +1

Just hop off when you see the neon Skipping Girl sign.

        Thanks, thanks and thanks!

I'll treat the 3 of you to a hot dog at IKEA!

        • +1

I love you cheapstakeasian, you are a true definition of a cheap skate

        • +1

One hot dog for 3? :)

        • @greenpossum LOLz +1

      • One reason I like trams better than busses is because all the tram stops are numbered. Use PTV's Journey Planner, write down the stop number you need to get off at, and just keep an eye out while on the tram. And if you get off too late, just follow the tram tracks back :P

    • yes 109 tram to Box hill as people have said. The journey planner website is very helpful.

    • If you're near the South Morang (Epping) or Hurstbridge train lines, catch the train to North Richmond and then get on the 109 tram

ate at the ikea food court the other day and the food there is pretty disgusting.. Oh well you get what you pay for.

    • the food is exactly that bad, i had a bow of chip and it was half decent.
They even help you lose the calories by making you walk around ikea to get to the exit

    • yeah.. it's pretty bad!
i definitely wouldnt go to ikea specifically to eat.. no matter how cheap it is

    • It's far from gourmet food, but it's good value.

  • As long as we don't have to endure that long-ass walk from start to finish!

  • +2

Fish and chips and CARROTS - sacrilege.

  • IKEA is now the preferred place for breakfast and lunch for pensioners.

Wouldn't eat too much of the fish though, it's heavily processed basa blended with fillings and then crumbed very heavily.

  • so, this offer valid from 11am, until closing?

  • based on the portions you get at Ikea Restaurant, it's probably the right price to pay!

  • This is slightly out of topic but while this is on fish and chips, Sea Salt at Chapel St is having a $3 deal on their fish and chips (or fish with salad/ fish with rice combo) on Sundays, Mondays and Tuesdays this week and next (promo apparently started last week). I was there just tonight- ordered fish and chips and fish with salad. The grilled fish was smaller than the crumbed fish, however they were both fresh and lovely. The salad was borderline sourish- suspect it had been sitting in their chiller for a little longer than they should. For $3 I couldn't complain, and would think that it's a better deal than Ikea's!
