Straight from their facebook page (minus their typo): Samsung Galaxy S3 is now for sale at Kogan at Australia's best price!

PRE-SALE ON NOW – expected dispatch date 28th May

The Samsung Galaxy SIII i9300 (S3) Android Phone is the most exciting and state of the art Samsung phone yet! The S3 is absolutely world class and is set to be the hottest phone release this year. With a 4.8in Super AMOLED HD display and an 8-megapixel camera that captures 1080p HD video, this phone has it all.
The Samsung Galaxy S3 is, according to Samsung anyway, 'inspired by nature – it sees, listens, responds, and allows you to share the greatest moments’. The nature theme is evident when you touch the phone for the first time. It has brushed plastic and comes in “Pebble Blue” and “Marble White”. With a larger screen then the S2, but weighing less (133 grams) this phone is a must have!

  • Im hesitant to buy this until it can be confirmed that this will work on Australian 4G networks (Telstra or Optus). Good to see an Australian price for this though. Let the price wars begin.

correct me if i'm wrong. i don't think it will work on Aus 4g (or any other 4G network) since it doesn't have an LTE/4G radio. US LTE version of the S3 released in June.

      • +5

Correct, LTE model will be released later for the states. No confirmation for Australian LTE release yet.

hmm wth? kogan is still grey import.that means kogan could've buying from http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/69414 and drop ship for >$80 per order. Simply by passing our orders to them. why is this a deal at all?

    • local warranty.

      • +1

        local 3RD PARTY warranty?

      • Yup. Some people feel more comfortable mailing it to a local address than an overseas address, especially since you officially can't mail phones overseas via Australia Post anymore (unless overseas stores accept warranty-return phones without batteries now). Sea mail back to the UK will take a long time, and a courier like Fedex will easily cost $80+.

Also if something goes wrong, you have a better chance of making noise about a local company than an overseas company.

Some people don't mind the extra risk involved in ordering direct, and that's perfectly fine for them.

Another plus for local sellers like Kogan is that smart people who buy them with their 28 degrees card can claim the ~$150 price difference in 6 months. :)

  • +2

    Talk about optimistic pricing…

  • THis one is cheaper http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/69414

I think if you have problems, you could send it back a couple of times and still be ahead?

  • +3

It costs more than Handtek, one of the best if not the best supplier for this phone.

They don't mention where the stock is from, they don't have 24 months warranty.

Worst of all is that they fail to accurately advertise the features of the device. The Micro SD card slot accepts up to 64GB cards officially, it has Bluetooth 4.0 and has a very high speed Wifi chip.

I understand one mistake but it just seems that they copy and pasted a generic feature list and don't even know what they are selling.

EDIT: On the specifications tab there is almost correct information.

On the specifications tab there is almost correct information.

      For Kogan, that's a home-run! :)

  • +3

Lol $1000 for a phone, they are just as bad as Apple™ now

      • +15

Apple™ discussions may only take place in a coffee shop or cocktail bar; pubs are not suitable venues for black skivvies! :p

  • +1

Why buy from Kogan when you can buy direct for much cheaper? Squeeze the unnecessary middle man out! (By the way, don't rely on Kogan warranty, they will take ages to send your phone off to whereever they bought the phone from)

  • +1

    (accidental double post)

  • +2

plus from me for getting rid of their typo.

  • Looking at the picture for the deal, I thought you get a TV free when you buy a Samsung S3 :-)

  • Minus the typo?
It still says then instead of than :P

  • Wow….must say the prices of the new phones r so high. Htc one x wasnt this expensive.

  • Telstra are currently offering the GS2 4G which is almost exactly this phone but with a dual core 1.5ghz instead of quad core 1.4ghz. Guaranteed to work on 4G network and a local warranty. Its $64pm (over 24m).

    I got the GS2 4G because I don't trust Telstra's release schedule after the GS2 debarcle (3 months late).

    Also, GS2 4G v 3G speed tests resulted in 10x faster downloads for 4G.

    • +1

Does it also drain the battery 10x faster? ;)

      • Surprisingly not :/ it does have a larger 1850mAh battery (compared to 1650 in the S2 3G), I should also mention that the S3 has 2100mAh so that's another benefit.

        • Ahh, that's good. I've played with the 4G Evos at JB before, the download and upload speeds are seriously amazing, even after changing the speedtest server to Singapore. I couldn't set Speedtest to use a US server for some reason though.

That said, with my usage, I'm still quite happy with NextG. I'll give 4G chipsets another generation or two before I start longing for it.

  • price at Expansys for 16gb SGS3 is $745.91 + $25 fedex shipping = $770.91approx, haven't bought from this ppl so not sure if any good?!! at least on paper is cheaper than Kogan

    • At that price, you might as well get it from Mobicity. $789 for 16GB. They ship quickly too.

  • +2

These are more expensive than iPhones. I thought only Apple could get away with charging those kinds of prices. I hope S3 drives down prices of other Android phones though.

    • +1

It's early-adopter pricing. The price will drop quickly. The S2 was around the same price when it first came out, you can get it for $400ish now.
