Breville Infuser BES840BKS Manual Coffee Machine - Black Sesame $399 (Was $799) Delivered ($0 C&C/ in-Store) @ David Jones

530

Pretty good price for the Infuser at the moment. RRP of $799 is pretty steep, and this price is not the cheapest, but post COVID is not too bad.

looks to be $549 on Amazon, and is same price as the amazon price for the Breville duo temp

The Infuser delivers optimal espresso flavour in every cup. It pre-infuses ground coffee with low, steady water pressure before extraction, gently expanding the grinds before stepping up to high pressure. The result is a more even extraction, which produces balanced coffee flavour.

Precise Espresso Extraction - Maximize espresso flavour potential with:

  • Low pressure pre-infusion,

  • PID temperature control that delivers water at precisely the right temperature adjustable in 2 degree Celsius increments

  • Pressure gauge to guide you to the right extraction

Volumetric Control - Programmable, semi-automatic function controls the volume
of the espresso pour at the touch of a button.

Fantastic machine. I found one on a council cleanup pile about five years ago and I've been using it daily since (including in a sharehouse where it got absolutely hammered). Still going strong.

      You are ozbargain royalty.

      • +1

Only thing better than cheap is free ;-)

        • +2

Indeed. I'm clearly residing in the wrong council area. Best you'll do here on council cleanup pile is a half broken, mouldy thighblaster including the original VHS demo of exercises.

          • +2

@seamonkey: Mosman council cleanup is surreal. So much great shit - but so many people picking at it.

Inner west is good too and places like Balmain and Rozelle have some serious nouveau riche players who throw out some mint stuff!

    • +1

Just don't get the internal control board wet.
      Irreplaceable.

    • +1

Good on you for doing that!

$899 wow? It was $299 last November when I bought from GG.

    • +1

that price is great. $899 is a signal not to buy it from them!

  • Just get a used bambino plus on market place for $300, lots of them advertised as used like new

    • Not surprised these are a difficult beginner machine and most people just expect the ease of a pod like machine.

Get a good grinder to pair with, and these machines can make exceptional coffee

    • Im actually just about to sell mine, amazing machine would highly reccomed getting one

      • Why you selling mate? Upgrading?

        • +2

          Wife got a Lelit

  • Very happy with mine. Got it for $299.

  • This is same as express minus grinder?

    • +1

      Yep

      • Very cool. 299 is a great price for it if so!

        • If available for $299 at the right time, I would have bought another in a heart beat.

  • Great machine, I’ve got mine coupled with the Breville Smart Grinder.

  • Thanks svenson, bought one online now.

I now have to cancel the one I ordered from Amazon last week (for $549), which is on its way and will be delivered in two days. I hope I can just refuse the delivery so it gets cancelled.

  • showing as $799 on the website now…sorry, just saw the small print underneath

  • I have a Delonghi Dedica. Is it worth upgrading to this?

    • This

    • +1

Dedica is one button convenience. This is quality, but a bit more effort.

If you are happy with Delonghi coffee, stick to it. If not, change.

    • I have a Dedica and I'm not at all unhappy with my coffee, the coffees I make are nicer than most I buy. So no need to upgrade imo unless you are unhappy.

      • Which beans/grounds are you using? I assume you are using single wall basket and bottomless portafilter.

        • Airjo Sumatra beans and yeah, got a new portafilter and basket off Amazon for like $25

          • @theguyrules: Thanks. Are you using breville SGP? If yes what grind and timer settings if you would like to share. And the total brew time (preinfusion to finish). Appreciate your reply.

            • @sixsense: Every grinder is different.
              Time depends on grind settings.
Grind settings depends on your grinder, your beans, temperature, humidity…
Sharing someone's abstract numbers is useless.
You should adjust YOUR grinder to grind YOUR beans in YOUR conditions to achieve proper extraction.

            • @sixsense: Yeah like SickDmith said, best to dial in yourself. Still - I use 18g at grind size 7 for my portafilter basket.
18g in, 36g ish out in around 30 sec. But I'm not that fussy. I just got it roughly to that and programmed the double shot button to dispense roughly the right amount of water for it.

              • @theguyrules: Thanks for your comment. I am here to get an idea only on what settings the folks who support this machine use. Personally, I have tried for more than a year with various baskets, portafilters, beans and grinds using SGP and dedica but never got a consistent taste. Same settings also dont give repeatable results. I have measured and timed my shots and have done all the youtubing tips to preheat etc. Nothing works with this machine. Will change to a better machine if I can.

                • @sixsense: I'm admittedly really not fussy when it comes to coffee.

                • @sixsense:

Nothing works with this machine. Will change to a better machine if I can.

Don't be offended but I believe machine here is the last thing to blame.
Grinder and beans make a lot of difference. Barista skills make some difference. Machine itself - the smallest contribution compared to all other things.

Since it looks like you did some homework (YouTube) :) I would suggest to try better grinder.

In my books Breville Dual Boiler is in the top list of espresso machines competing with other machines with 3x-5x higher price.
While Breville Smart Grinder is bare minimum you should get (or probably shouldn't, actually). :)

I had some experience in the past where I just could not get Breville Smart Grinder to grind my light roast fine enough to get good extraction. Eureka Specialita didn't have any issues with the same beans.

Also in case you are using Breville's single basket - this is really hard to get consistent too.

My shot-to-shot extraction became very consistent once I stopped using Breville's single basket and upgraded to Eureka grinder.
At the end of the day machine itself is just pressurised hot water. :)

Edit: I just realised you might be using Breville Infuser but not Breville Dual Boiler.
Anyway, my comments still stands - beans and grinder first, skills - second, machine - third.

  • How does this compare to the Bambino Plus?

The TL:DR seems to be the Bambino Plus has good automation for frothing, temperature setting but the
infuser is, probably, better if you want to do everything manually. We have the Bambino Plus, and like it, but we aren’t coffee/hot chocolate aficionados.

    • +1

The Bambino Plus has the newer thermojet technology so heats up super fast, including steaming which is really good.

The auto milk steaming is great for those that don't want to get too involved in the process, but still want good textured milk. I believe you can still do it manually if you want just like the infuser, just with the benefit of a quicker transition to steam due to the better thermojet.

  • Looking at a Breville, cant justify price of Dual Boiler. Was looking at the Barista Express and Pro. Is this basically the same machine as the Express with no grinder? And the Pro is slightly better grinder than express. So if the Infuser is the same as the Express, this might be a good buy then put $$$ towards a better grinder ?

    • +2

barista express is the same internals without the grinder.

we use ours with a Smart Grinder

      • Cheers, thats what my googling also found out. 400 for the infuser or 600 for the express, maybe the extra 200 aint worth it as seems like putting the 200 towards a better grind would be money well spent. Seems like the extra few bucks for the smart grinder pro would be much better than the express grinder.

        • +1

I figured that if the machine packed it in, we could pair the grinder with a newer, improved machine.

  • Has the RRP of all Breville machines gone up? I'm seeing the dual boiler at a super high RRP when 26/12/21 TGG were selling it for 809 on a sale. It's on sale at Myer for 1700. I think the whole COVID and supplier chain tax has hit these machines

  • I am using Nespresso Creatista Uno at the moment. Any good manual machine to recommend or not worth to upgrade? Thanks

Anything is better than a pod machine

      • +1

Yea but we do understand that it involves a learning process which is not for everyone.

      • Anything is better than a pod machine

I could not master Blend 43 - no matter how hard I tried pods are better. :)
