  • Tempted on the red switch full size, do they use Cherry's or their own make?

    • +8

Definitely not Cherrys. Also, all my Kogan keyboard switches have started to fail (one after 6 months).

If you are looking for a keyboard to try out, then give it a go. But would not consider this a long term keyboard.

      • +5

My last kogan mechanical keyboard lasted 5 years and just got a new one. Can't fault it but everyone's experiences will be different.

        • +3

My one is same but it was cherry at that time

          • +4

            @findcaiyzh: Just found my receipt:
Kogan Backlit Mechanical Keyboard (Cherry MX Brown): $66.99
            Wed, 24 Dec 2014, 18:23

        • +2

Got my Kogan mechanical keyboard in April 2018. Still going strong. Use it for work everyday. The only issue is the F11 key has stopped lighting up. Key still works though. Other than that, its been amazingly good for the price.

        • Wild, I've had mine replaced 4 times and each have barely lasted a few months…

They never asked to send the old ones back which is a bonus ig, I now have a literal pile of these keyboards with various keys on each that either don't function, or only function if you slam the absolute heck outta them.

I could probably send the most recent one back and collect even more useless keyboards, but at this point I think it's worth spending a little more and getting something that's going to last instead of feeding the popularity and production of this junk.

          • @ilu: Mate, can't stop smiling the way you put it

          • -1

@ilu: maybe you have heavy fingers?

            • +1

@gizmomelb: Haha, nah my physique is a far cry from keyboard warrior

      • Same here. My brown key Kogan had dead keys in the first 9 months. These keyboards are trash.

        • Yep. I have had their Cherry switch version which was completely fine. Their non-Cherry versions since then (I've had two myself and my friend had one) have all failed within few months unfortunately. It's probably still worth it if you never tried mechanical keyboard, but don't expect anything like a proper mech keyboards with good stabilisers.

    • +3

Neither; if all their previous ones are to go by; its Outemu's.

    • +2

The Outemu switches used in the current Kogan ones are OK, I went from the Kogan Outemu Brown to Razor Orange (Gateron I think) The consistency of the higher grade switches is very noticeable, the Kogan one was great for $35 but it cannot be considered the same as cherry or even gateron, they just aren't consistent in the same way, but for the price it's hard to beat if you just want an upgrade from a membrane keyboard, and don't want to spend $100+

  • +3

I got one of these for $35 and even then I considered it great value for those getting into mechanical keyboards. I noticed no fault in quality despite being kogan branded.

  • What's the difference between "Kogan RGB Mechanical Keyboard (Blue Switch)" and "Kogan Full RGB Mechanical Keyboard (Blue Switch)" ?

    1) https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/kogan-rgb-mechanical-keyboard-b…
    2) https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/kogan-full-rgb-mechanical-keybo…

    • +2

I think the RGB one does static color (like it only does exactly that effect shown in the picture, one color per row),

and the full RGB one each key can display its own color.

    • +4

The full RGB keyboard is using the Outemu Blue switch, its a better keyboard compared to the RGB keyboard that uses generic switches.

    • +1

      Go the 'full'

  • so this iis a noisy keboard?

    • I have the red and it is noisy. It's fine for home use but not in a shared environment.

Had one key not work, but pulled the key out, which clean and works.

6 months plus and that's the only issue I had.

    • Blue switches are "double noisy" as they have a designed in audible click mechanism in the key, in addition to any over travel backplate impact noises you make.

  • Rainbow RGB means the keyboard will look like a rainbow. You can't have same colour for all keys.

    • -1

You can have the same colour for all the keys.

      • Not with rainbow RGB. Only with Full RGB. Rainbow RGB = fake RGB.

  • -1

The picture is wrong. TKL (ten keyless) keyboards do not have numeric keypads.

So which one to get, Kogan or the ALDI online?

  • Any way to get free shipping? I have already used up the trial.

    • I can help you buy it if you want? pm me

  • what is the difference between blue switch and red switch ?

    • +2

Generally - Blue mechanically clicks when engaging, before bottoming out, Brown has a tactile feel when it engages, before bottoming out, red just bottoms out, no click, no tactile, and I think it also technically engages before bottoming out, but has no feed back. Kinda Blue is noisiest - best for Typists, red for gamers, brown for hybrid users

Would say it's more down to personal preference (and how loud you want your board to be) than just what you're using the keyboard for. No problems at all gaming with clicky switches or typing with tactiles, it's more just what you like best.

  • Don't wanna pay for shipping and used my trial, are these sources and rebadged from somewhere else

If your ordering one for your dog then make a new account and trial for it.

    Your experience may be different.

I am currently typing on this keyboard. The quality of the keyboard is no way near as good as my Razer blackwidow tournament. It does the job fine. My only problem is different key keep failing on me over time.

This is the 3rd replacement keyboard I've got from Kogan since I originally purchased it and the "B" key is going again soon. It's coming towards the end of 1 year support so I guess I'll just dump it after the 1 year warranty goes. For the money it did its job fine.

Kogan has been generous enough to keep sending me replacement keyboards without asking me to return my broken one so I don't need to pay return postages.

    • For me my D was dysfunctional, but I had spilled beer on it…

      • +7

For me my D was dysfunctional

You know these days you can get help for that.

        • the blue keys have helped many.

      • Did it grow a beerd

    • My "d" key is failing but they asked me to send a video of it not working, not sure how I logistically do that as it's not a consistent issue. How did that work for you?

  • If we do get a faulty one, what's the return process like? Is it possible to DIY fix the broken keys

    • +2

if you want to replace the keys you need a soldering iron to de solder the key before putting a new one in. More work than the keyboard is worth

  • i wound up with so many kogan mech kbs over the years.
used the TKL blue switch for well over a year and was mostly fine, but as always with kogan boards, there'll always be that one key starts becoming temperamental. treat the kogan boards as gateways ;)

i'm using a razer blackwidow v3 tkl greens as my main board since november last year. i don't need fancy rgb effects/side-lighting, just a solid backlight where i can choose the colour. on my other computer, i'm still stuck with the cheapest kogan full-size. the right shift, 'a' and 'e' keys make me want to throw it out the window sometimes..

  • Guys, there is a kogan Cherry MX version, is that worth to buy?

  • +2

Geeze… how deadset sh!thouse is Kogan First… Tried the trial, and my postcode is getting hit with a $13.99 shipping cost. Changed it to larger areas around me, and the cost still remains. Change it to the state capital, and yeah, of course it works… eBay and Amazon would have (and have had) no problem shipping to my post code for free with eBayPlus and Amazon Prime. Sh!thouse system, Koags…. Sh!thouse system…

  • I got the Kogan brown switch a few years back and a couple of the keys stopped working outside of warranty. Also had some issue with waking my Mac from sleep where it would require me to unplug/plug the USB in again for the keyboard to work again. Was otherwise a good intro to mech keyboards.

  • Here is the red full not mentioned in op. Cherry Red also on the site $63.99.

Kogan Full RGB Mechanical Keyboard (Red Switch) $21.99

  • Would either the brown or red ones suitable for a shared open office environment? Want to get something to type on rather than the typical Dell OEM keyboard but I want to be mindful of my coworkers :)

    • None of them really would be imo (this depends on your work environment and your coworkers as well though). A lot of the noise is from the switches hitting the bottom, red and brown switches still have that.

      • Thank you. My coworkers are well into their 40s so migraine is too real at that point. Will give this one a miss :)

        • You'd be much better off with a good membrane keyboard or mechanical keyboard with silenced switch that has dampeners inside

    • Brown > red for quiet if youre new to mech keyboards (it's easier to teach yourself to type properly with the tactile feedback).

If you're already familiar with the required pressure and travel to activate and not over travel then reds are great.

Either way you can get dampners (like orings you put on the back to muffle the impact of the key against the backplate)

  • Good keyboard but noisy. I had the brown switches and it's not cherry.
I noticed a good difference when I upgraded it to Logitech G815.

But does that difference worth the extra $150 that I paid - definitly not.

  • Interesting why blue is always the cheapest (or one of) in those Kogan deals?

    • 'cause it's loud and annoying if you're using it in the office, video conferences or gaming.
but works out for me since blues and their clacky equivalents are what i choose most of the time.

      • Haha same as u I have chosen blue when it was $30, but seeing the blue now at $13 so kinda regret I did not purchase brown/red last time — Thus i can grab this blue now at minimum cost lol

        • i was tempted to pick up a spare throwaway board but…i picked up my logitech g915 today (clacky of course) and it is amazing. not loud as loud compared to other blue/clacky keyboards i've had and i'd moved over low profile mech switches sooner.

i got it for work and everyone hates me
