    inb4:
    * Why would I need this, the guy at Harvey Normans said my TV is a smart TV and can do everything.
    * This or Chromecast, AppleTV etc.
    * Is the streaming service Dancing Dolphins available on this?
    * What's side loading?
    * Are there ads?

Hint, these have all been answered before on past deals. Past deals can be found here https://www.ozbargain.com.au/product/amazon-fire-tv-stick-4k…

Severely limiting the comments on this deal @PainToad ;)

You seem very upset about the prospect of people asking reasonable questions about an item… on a post about the item.

Go and have a lay down - it must be tiring being an expert in everything.

    • try selling a non smart tv on facebook marketplace being asked if its smart tv…

    • +4

      @PainToad

The whole point of peeps asking here is so those not fully versed with the tech don't have to go trawling through piles of crap for snippets. Sure, it means you have to put your patient and helpful hats on together but try it sometime.

  • this is good price with cashback upto 7/8% from SHOPBACK/CASHREWARDS, I have sideloaded few apps for live TV shows and movies so well worth it.

    • Which apps would you recommend sideloading?

      • +4

For TV shows and movies - Bee TV, Nova TV, Kraken TV
Live TV around the world - LIVE net TV, Kraken TV for Amazon Firestick.
Download filesynced app to open the whole new door of side loading.

        • Does updating of these app happen OTA or need to redownload and sideload again?

        • What website do you use to download the apk files?

          • @Ice009: Download filesynced app and it will allow you to download whole heaps of apps.

            • @Jadeja: I usually just sideload with a USB stick on my current older model Firestick (I want to get the 4K Max, though). The reason I sideload from USB is that I use a VPN and the Firestick itself wouldn't let me get apps from different regions. Does Filesynced allow you to get apps from different regions?

edit : I just checked apkmirror, one of the main sites I download apks from manually, but none of those apps came up. Do you get them through Filesynced only? Just wanted to know if there is also somewhere to download them manually.

For live TV, you can use the legal streams that Samsung has licensed.
        https://www.techdoctoruk.com/over-10000-live-tv-channels-feb…

        • wow 8,000+ channels for freeeeeeee yeeeehaw!

  • Can you hook this up to an external hard drive via the USB?

  • If i have an android app on a usb…. can i somehow load it onto this stick? I have one of those chinese tv apps that i usually put on USB then load onto my set top box, but my set top box is getting pretty slow.

Alternatively, does anyone know if there are any good chinese tv/hong kong tv show apps on this?

    • it's android based so yes you can.
There are multiple ways to install android apps, either from downloader apps, explorer or usb.
For usb, you need a OTG cable to make it work.

    • +1

what chinese tv apps do you have, and how do you install? asking for my elderly parents :)

      • I install TVPlus for my MIL. She loves it.

        • This might sound dumb but which app is this, when I look up tvplus I get
Samsung tv plus? Apple TV+? TV+ (Turkish? )

          • @LiteDough: search for the word above, plus "chinese" you should see the file to download.

      • Thank you

      • That app has way too any ads though and it requires a mouse…. To navigate good on tablet bad on TV

    • TVplus

      • link?

        • I cant put it, its against the rules. You will need to google it. put "chinese" as well to assist. it will appear on Google.

      • Actually pretty bad app lags even if you are on good ISP. The last you want is your MIL complain to you and you become a permanent IT support

Lag free Chinese TV channel no longer exist. And it varies on what channel you stream . Unless you can get CDN service or paid subscription you ain't gonna be happy

  • How fast is this if I want to, let's say, change my streaming from one service to another? I have the first gen of Chromecast and the loading time is too long.

  • Just bought this one for $59 for third time few daysNo w ago with FTVUPGRADE coupon plus 10% cashback from cashreward. Amazon often give FTVUPGRADE coupon so if you are not in hurry just wait.

I believe that’s targeted, correct me if I’m wrong

The same company that brought you this epic failure (followed by back peddling) https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/22523

    • Wrong deal.

  • How good is this at handling 4k remuxes from a NAS server?

Recently bought an Nvidia Shield and love it but primarily use is Plex but want to be handle 4k remuxes

    • I use mine for Plex primarily as well, but I don't have any 4k files on my NAS. All of mine are 1080p

    • It works well for streaming from Nas.
Unlike my Google chrome tv, this fire stick max has better hardware for streaming my 4k content captured from my GoPro via samba share without issue using the VLC app.

Google chrome tv just stutters and fails miserably.

Not sure about 4k remuxes tho

  • Wasn't this $49 ?

    • different version, has MAX at the end, supporting wifi6

  • Is there a way to get Kayo to work on this? Other than in the browser, which is a bit clunky. I've tried sideloading the app from different sources, but with no luck to get it to actually run.

    • Kodi + Kayo add-on

    • Yes. Side load kayo. I've done it on the one I have already. Works flawlessly.

  • This will be $59 or cheaper on prime day for anyone who cant wait :)

    • Save $10 and wait two months?
      How very ozbargain of you.
