Remember the time everyone was talking about how good this earphone at their price… good old days 😂

    • Time to relive nostalgia ;)

    • +2

Those were the Pistons. From memory, the base version was a lot worse + more fakes around.

      • The base version are pretty rubbish, the Sony's are better from the recent deal

  • +3

Not sure if I just bundled with a lot of fakes but I would churn through one of these a month. To be honest, the sound was okay but learnt over time it is better to invest in a more expensive pair of earphones/headphones and not have to order and wait for delivery etc.

    • Fair enough. Though for me I'm not concerned for expensive wired earphones as I use my default Apple ones occasionally when I can't be bothered grabbing my xm3s. Am interested to test its quality compared to Apple's

  • Why are we still bother with another pair of cheap earphones? Don't all of us already have a few spares lying around somewhere at home? Isn't it why so many mobile phones now i.e. iPhones no longer include earphones?

  • +1

Without mic, they aren't much useful.

    • +2

Where'd you find that? PCByte says it does have it?

      • I could be wrong but I read the full text on the link given on this post but I didn't find a mention of mic unless Kogan's description isn't accurate.

        • You can see in the 3.5mm plug

Two lines for stereo and the third for microphone

If anyone wants decent-sounding IEMs that don't break the bank, you might want to consider spending a little extra and grab Moondrop Chu's: 20 USD, or 2 extra for a mic: https://shenzhenaudio.com/products/moondrop-chu-headphone-ti…

    • +1

Holy shit, moondrop makes budget now? How are they compared to Aria? I know it's a completely different class, but I'm curious

      • +3

Scarily close. I own both. Aria feels more "full' but the tuning is really similar

        • +1

Ok, thanks, you piqued my interest! Getting it now.

          • +4

@Wonderfool: Just keep in mind expect a few weeks delay for shipping because apparently they didn't prepare enough units to catch up with orders. I ordered 2 weeks ago and still not shipped

            • +1

@zjz93: That's fine, my Aria still works perfectly well, so I can don't mind waiting lol.

              • +2

@Wonderfool: Why would you want one when you have an Aria already?

                • +6

@ven041: Well, to try it, of course! Aren't you curious to see if a 20 bucks iem sounds as good as a 100 bucks one? Especially if it's one of your favourite IEM? And if it is, don't you want to gift it to your friends so they can also enjoy the joy you've been having for the last year or so?

Chu are overordered. Will be delays. Buy CCA CRA if you don't mind more bass

      • Have you tried the CRA? I have them and really like them, but my normal preference is for neutral. So, the Chu sounds like what I want, but I hear from some that the technical performance is not as good as the CRA. Namely the detail retrieval and treble extension are what I most appreciate of the CRA, and while the bass is plentiful it's balanced out well enough. I've ordered the Chu now anyways, since I have been missing a good neutral IEM + for the tips.

The CCA CRA seems like a very safe general recommendation IMO, I think more people would be put off of a neutral sound sig than the more fun (yet reasonable) tuning of the CRA. The magic with the CRA is how it performs so well with the technical aspects while retaining the fun and impact, so I think it's almost the perfect introduction IEM.

        • I have CRA as well. in terms of detail retrieval. I'd agree with you to say that the CRA appears to be more detailed. However, its that the Chu presents the music in a different manner, since it has more of a treble boost near the pinna gain region, music still sounds be detailed. It balances out, kind of.

          • @zjz93: Thanks, that's pretty much what I was hoping would be the case. I've had a few neutral IEMs over the years that were let down by lack of detail, mostly with treble that was just too soft to compensate or add any illusion of detail and just left it with that defect. Glad to hear that's not the case with the Chu.

These seem to be the best performing IEMs for the price right now.

But as zjz93 said, there'll likely be delays with your order.

“They were so obsessed with whether they could, but they never thought about whether they should…”

These might be cheap and provide some basic functionality, but please think about the environment before buying these.

Headphones these cheap are likely to break, and/or be poor quality. Flogging cheap products like these is bad for the environment, not to mention the carbon cost of shipping these things from China.

I’m prepared for the downvotes from the chimps with boxes and boxes of useless and/or broken $2 cables/headphones/stickers/pens

    • +1

Agreed. Same thing I thought from this deal. Though definitely don't buy this if you already have many earphones that are sitting around.

    • I leave them at work in case I need a spare headset. Don't care if they go missing

  • +1

Had a pair of these a year or so ago, fell apart within a year with relatively light usage (probably around 3hrs a week of wearing whilst sitting down). The earphone itself fell apart, and the component inside fell out. I have nothing against Xiaomi (I own several products from them) but this isn't worth the $4.

They sounded okay, but they didn't last nearly as long as my pair of Panasonic Ergofits, which went strong for more than 2 years with very heavy usage. You can pick up a pair of Ergofits for less than 15 bucks.

Would reccomend getting a pair of these over this. They fit like a glove and sound good too.

    • Considering it's Xiaomi's iem, I'm surprised it managed to last you a year lol.

      • +2

The more expensive Xiaomi products work well and are good value; their phones, especially (have owned and used some in the past). But you can't realistically expect a $4 pair of earphones to last a long time, no matter what brand it is. Better off getting a slightly more expensive pair and have them work for a number of years rather than a number of months.

        • +1

Eh, I'm simply talking about their in ears. I own every iteration of them, from piston 1 to the last one that had 20 different names. All broke very quickly lol, some, like the hybrid (or piston 4), broke 2 in a year.

          • @Wonderfool: I had the mi 4 hybrid. Lasted me a few years of 3-8 hour use 5 days a week. They were still fine, but I ended up changing to over ear headphones to block out other people.

  • Eh why not!

  • How do these compare to my HD 600s? Should I upgrade?

    • +3

Yeah bro make them your endgame iem.

  • +1

They look nice for 4 bucks.

  • +1

Wow that Amazon user "got a few pairs to put in my jackets while I research better models to buy" is the reason why environmental sustainability becomes everyone's problem.
    Buy once and buy well.

Also worth noting these could 100% be fakes.

    • It's funny cause these days, 20 bucks can get you very far.

I remember when the swing ie800 came out and I was shocked to hear the sound that came out of a 15AUD earphones.

Like CCA CRA is 20 bucks for earphones that have detachable cable, which is something that would've costed you 70AUD last year, at least.

  • which step do you enter promo code? I couldn't find the option to input FREESHIP code.

    • Code expired 29/4 at midnight.

    • -1

The input for the code appeared when checking out, but then expired when I'm guessing it went out of stock

  • +1

Are there any budget IEMs that are USB-C? Don't have anything with a 3.5mm anymore and don't have many adaptors lying around.
