Is interesting the Canon r5c does not have IS which is weird considering it is a video oriented hybrid https://www.engadget.com/canons-eos-r-5-c-offers-8-k-video-a…

    • +2

When you really think about it, since it's marketed as more of a cinema camera, the exclusion of IS makes sense since normally filmmakers would rely on a focus puller instead. Although I agree that having IS would really make it a brilliant all round camera!

      • That's a shame because the event videographers/photographers market volume would be very lucrative…

  • Stock supply has been an issue with the A7iv, I wonder how many they have in stock, if any. It's DD so I can assume none, so be wary folks.

    • Man. I orderred my A7iii from them couple years back. It took 4 months before I get a call from them that's its ready for collection.
      Same story with my X-T3.
That was back then when covid was just an idea in Contagion * cough *

    • People can price match at Jbhifi, and also pay with discounted gift cards :)

      • not sure if they would price match ebay

        • +1

          Depends on how the staff.

I price matched eBay things before at Jbhifi

Paid $3700 at end of Jan this year.
    Big discount!

WHAT? $3k for an A7IV?! I was prepared to pay $4k. Alright, there goes the rest of my savings…

Always be careful with Digidirect, they will tell you there is stock and happily hold your money but your order quickly goes to backorder.
If you check on their main website, this camera is a preorder, so I'm guessing you'll be waiting months for this to arrive.

    • A lot of Sony gear has been on backorder regardless this year from Sony themselves lol. They are struggling to get stock in the country.

      • +1

Yep, and I think this should always be reflected on a retailers site when showing stock levels. It's happened to me a handful of times with Digidirect, to the point where I don't really shop with them anymore.

        • I agree but at the same time their current practice is also useful for price matching/price protection claims.

          • @eecan: That is true, I have done that as well, works most of the time.

          • @eecan: I've been living under a rock. What is price protection that youre talking about?

            • @trantonz: A lot of credit cards have a price protection policy where if a product's price drops below what you paid for within a certain time period, you can get credited the difference. Most of the bank ones require it be advertised in a catalogue in 30/60 days of purchase or something which is not particularly helpful. I use a 28 degrees card (they have discontinued the price protection and are only supporting existing policies) which allows me to make a claim if the product drops in price from any Australian retailer within a year.

    Wtf that’s insane 3k

    • +9

      Surely you’re trolling.

    • -2

nah. An oneplus with that hassleblad camera would beats all of these above.

    • Phone cameras are a "good enough" camera that suits most peoples needs. But would you say $1million for a Ferrari makes no sense when you can get a Hyundai for $20k? They're both cars but they're not in the same league. Smart phone cameras literally try and mimic the look of DSLR cameras using AI.

      • Not even a fair comparison really. If the iPhone is $2400, and this camera is $3200, it's like a Hyundai for $20k vs a $26k Ferrari - that can't make calls or access the internet though.

        • If you have a think about it, we are saying the same thing. The whole point is the DSLR is more expensive, but its not as versatile. It does one thing, takes photos, and that image quality is better than a phone.

E.g A Ferrari can't take the kids and/or dogs out. It probably doesn't even have back seats. It can't tow anything. It probably has crap boot space. But it's a Ferrari, it looks nice, and its fast, that's what it does. People don't buy a Ferrari for the practicality just like people don't buy a DSLR to make phone calls.

You didn't even mention image quality in your post, so you completely missed the point.

Nothing makes sense when you got no common sense. Try to enlarge pristine photo taken from $2400 iphone on a monitor and you'll see why.

  • I blink and its gone. I wonder if its a price error and if they'll honour it if it is.

    • Manage to buy one and also manage to price match at sony

  • Can we cancel order once purchased on eBay digidirect (if they said it's on backorder)?

  • +4

Priced match via the sony website even after though the eBay listing is OOS. Just got approved.

    • Could you share how you went about doing this?
In particular, how did you indicate the final price?

Edit: Nevermind, just went through the standard process and filled out their web form. Hopefully it gets approved too!
      Thanks for the idea.

    • Lucky you. I got this response:

Thanks for requesting a price match with Sony.
As it falls under an exclusion of our price match terms and conditions, your request has not been accepted.

      • unlucky,
they dont match OOS item, it is in their TOS

        • Can kind of take their conditions with a grain of salt for now, their price match T&Cs supposedly disallow price matches involving coupons as well but people have been getting those approved for this and other recent A7IV deals. If you get rejected its justified but costs you nothing to try lol.

          • @eecan: Got price matched and still in my Sony cart for the discounted price even though I had an email saying they rejected the price match lol

            • @RichieVn: Lucky you! All I got was a rejection email and a full priced A7iv sitting in my cart.

Anyways, hope you guys enjoy the new camera! good catch for the price.

              • @Orginal: Digidirect has it back in stock on eBay. Don't know if they actually have physical stock but at least you might be able to put in an order or try another price match.

  • I ordered the A7IV yesterday 10:45am. Located Melbourne, is being delivered today, also ordered a 35 1.4GM and some accessories about 2hrs later, seems they didn’t make the cut off unfortunately. I was also worried as website showed pre-order for the body but seems they had stock.

    • From digidirect eBay or Sony website?

      • digidirect eBay, it was delivered around lunch time which is awesome

        • Wow I bought mine 10min after you, just checked it was at Alexandria nsw at 8.45pm last night. So hopefully it's in melb today and delivered tomorrow

        • Got my a7m4 today too. Very disappointed about the Sony box for the camera. Sony changed the style of package box for the camera, looks really cheap and lame. Agree?

A7 IV is back in stock! Just grabbed one! :)

    • +1

      Thanks, I grabbed one too

    • Didn't last long enough :(

      • Strange, because they removed the 20% off code and it still sold out.

        • What do you mean they removed the code? Code is still working even now.

          • @eggboi: Ah I think the code is only valid for total 1000 discount. So he can't use the code anymore. I need to create another account to use the code for battery + sony sd card + battery charger.

            • +1

@sanglt: the sony tough M SD cards are way cheaper on amazon. They're great - I've been using them for over a year. much more rigidly built, they resemble giant micro-sd cards if that makes sense - in the way they are carved from a single solid piece of material. https://www.amazon.com.au/Sony-Uhsii-Tough-M-Memory-Card/dp/…

              • +1

@eggboi: Oh thanks for that. I may request a refund for the M SD card. I buy 128GB for $160 (After discount).

          • +1

@eggboi: Sorry, my bad. I think because I'd already used the code it wasn't showing the discount offer.

            • @mattachino: Yeah fair. i didn’t even buy from them and the code stopped showing up. But it still worked when I later did buy something. Weird.

    • Do you get the shipping label yet? I made a separate order for the lens and only have the shipment notice for the lens. Feel like they going to hold the order for the camera.

      • No, I actually did the exact same. Lens arrived today, no camera body yet. :( Hopefully there isn't much of a delay.

      • Got mine yesterday! Any luck your end?

        • Yeah I got mine this afternoon.

  • Is this a good enough deal (eg little loss if I need to sell second hand) to destroy my 2.5k budget for?

Was holding out for another 2.2k z6 24-70/4 deal or similar.

    • Assuming this is a once off I would say that you could probably sell it for a profit or a limited loss within the next few months at least. No idea where the pricing will settle exactly in the long term but it seems like Sony's model is to price newer products at higher tiers and then keep selling the older products at the previous price point.

  • Just got a dispatch email for my price match order on the A7 IV approved last Tuesday night.

    • How did you word your price match with Sony? Curious, seems to be luck of the draw!?

      • +1

No wording, just filled out the form (it's just a simple web form where you enter your details and the price, no ability to write a convincing sob story lol). 3 times with 3 different email addresses. One got approved, the others were denied. Then after they approved, they emailed again later to say it was "out of stock with unknown ETA and likely discontinued" lol… So I referred them to their own website saying stock was about to arrive, and they organised the price match. My order just arrived about an hour ago.

Edit: also just noticed I got negged in my comment above re dispatch lol… I guess someone was extra salty after getting denied. It's happened to all of us…

        • +1

I’ll have to give that a go next time and set up a few email addresses! Thanks!!

  • Gee, I've reached out to JB, Sony and Digidirect. No one wants to price match. Very lucky to those that managed to get a positive response from Sony. Hopefully some more sales come on soon.
