  • This looks crazy fast coming from DDR4 but this is like having DDR4 2133 right?

Yes, and don't be fooled by the numbers. As Linus would say, "just buy DDR4", a speedy DDR4 to be precise.

Even if you invest a lot more (e.g. DDR5-6000), you'll only see limited gains in gaming as suggested below

      https://www.techspot.com/review/2387-ddr4-vs-ddr5/

I would say this is a good placeholder for anyone entering the DDR5 realm. Once things get cheaper, which already has, one could buy faster DDR5s

      • It's one of those weird changeovers. If you have a dual dimm ram module the DDR4 has better latency and split over 2 dimms is great, however DDR4 has better speeds, do it'll process the data faster once recieved.
Honestly the tradeoffs make good DDR4 similar to low - mid range DDR5.

I will also mention DDR5 does have more processing on chips as it has ecc modules built in, so if data protection is important this could be very helpful.

I’m amazed the redemptions haven’t run out yet for this code

    • i've run out of things to buy from my wish list!

      • How many accounts do you have now? Did you collect all your items at once?

        • i think about 15.
5 accounts were created earlier this year. 10-ish for this round but didn't make all the orders on one day. some things required a bit of thought and research. so i did 3 collections over the past couple of weeks.

          • @tdw: Sheesh, I thought I was doing well with 3. They didn't clock the multiple accounts at pickup?

            • +1

@Master Bates: they didn't seem to care. i wrote down the order numbers on a sticky note so it's easier for them to check off, and they only needed to see one of the "ready for collection" emails each time i showed up.

  • If for some reason you're a person who 'has' to buy DDR5, and this is all you can afford, I would suggest you look into RAM timings and sub-timings, cut those all down as far as possible before turning up the frequency/mega transfers, and if you get it right you may not even be able to turn the frequency/mega transfers up.
