Help Me Choose Between The Lenovo IdeaPad S540 or MSI Modern 14 Laptop

I recently purchased a Lenovo IdeaPad S540 - https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/165196462683 for $939 but this MSI Modern 14 from the Microsoft eBay store attracts me to for $720 - https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/175053791433

Wondering if I should cancel the Lenovo order and order the MSI Modern 14 from the Microsoft eBay store?

What do you plan to do with the laptop? If you're carrying it around and bringing it to work/uni or whatever, keep in mind that the MSI Modern 14 is 3KG. That's heavy. The Lenovo is less than half that, at 1.3KG.If it's a stay-at-home laptop, the MSI might suit you better as it's a larger screen, but it's 1080p compared to the Lenovo's QHD display. What's your use case with the laptop?

MSI Modern 14 is definitely not 3KG, my chonk-tastic Lenovo Thinkpad E570P with a GTX 1050 is 2.4KG.

      It should be around 1.3KG

      • Weird, the product description might be wrong then. According to the official Microsoft site, it's 2.98kg. https://www.microsoft.com/en-au/d/msi-modern-14-b11mou-644au…

That is likely referring to the boxed weight, which includes all the accessories packed together with the laptop plus all the shock protection that laptop needs when in transit.

          • @scrimshaw: True. It is weird though that they would refer to the boxed weight for the laptop description. I don't see why Microsoft would do that, granted no one else does.

    MSI is not Microsoft (https://au.msi.com/)

MSI is a Taiwanese Company. While Microsoft makes Surface devices.

Probably OP meant "from Microsoft eBay store"

  • Geez
This seems to be a common occurence

FYI as previously mentioned MSI isn't microsoft, even if it is from their store.

Much over muchness really, Lenovo tends to be the more reliable and trusty brand, bit like a toyota.

If you don't mind paying a little more ($1169 with eBay Plus) and putting up with 1.65 kg, the Intel Nuc M15 gives you

    • 1080p @ 460 nits, SRGB 94%, DCI-P3 72%, AdobeRGB 72%,
    • better build quality
    • a touchscreen
    • huge 73 watt hour battery
    • dual thunderbolt ports
    • two years of warranty, (battery only 1 year)
    • very fast 4266MHz LPDDR4 memory for even better GPU performance

    • downside: still 1080p at 15 inches.
