Continental Grand Prix 5000 Clincher Black/Transparent Tyre 700x25mm $79.99 Delivered at Bikebug

80

Rare as hens teeth these days. The nice looking transparent sidewalls are in stock at BikeBug. Won't last.

GP5000 really is the best allrounder in the field, as testing on Bicycle Rolling Resistance shows.

Won’t last? Did you mean the life of the tyre or the deal?

  • +4

The clincher tyre hasn’t really been hard to get a hold of, it’s the tubeless tyres that are extremely hard to come by!

  • +5

this just looks like RRP/full price? I don't see the bargain here

    • Sure but there's no stock anywhere. Hence the post.

      • +1

In the Bikebug webpage, when you look at an item which is out of stock there is an option for "notify me when stock arrives".
If you use it, they will send you an email when stuff becomes available.
There's no need to post here only to say they have stock

    • but is ok to post about PS5 non deals?

      • to be fair a PS5 is a mainstream consumer item.

the kind of consumer that is looking at spending the equivalent of a basic 14-16" tyre on their 4 wheeled runabout vehicle instead on a bicycle tyre are going to be clued in consumers.

I don't equate the two, one is enthusiast level product and another is consumer level.

Expect deals around $60. Really miss the days with $30 GP4000s and $20 Michelin Pro3 from worldwide websites, no import duty.

Tell me about it. Started looking recently for some deals on fast commuter tyres. Best I found was Michelin Pro4 Endurance for $63. However I needed to buy 4 of them to qualify for free shipping. Dark times indeed.

      • So buy 4, you will need them eventually. I have a draw full of tires from doing this. :D

        • I would have in the past, but I'm fully work-from-home at the moment and the commuter has taken a bit of a back seat. Would take me years to go through 4 at the current rate! Been taking the roadie out instead and I have a stash of tyres for that.

      • For commuter tyre, a lot of choices, just get whichever on sale. Personally, I have good experience on Maxxis Re-Fuse Kevlar, they were $20 when on sale, sometimes you can buy new ones from marketplace for $10-20. Never had a single puncture until10,000 km.

same with 4season at around $40-50 and free delivery over $99 at wiggle

      • +3

4 seasons is such a great tire, ridiculously priced now

        • yea, the grip on it is amazing! Only got 1 puncture after 2000km, lots of glass in melbourne CBD :(

          • @pippohippo: So frustrating! Still 2000km around the CBD is fantastic. They’re comfortable, pretty long lasting, puncture proof and have great grip. What’s not to love (except the price).

            • @JSONBourne: yep, extra grippy for sure. Road a commuter up Kinglake (VIC) and boy cornering with these tyres were amazing. Due to the price, I have stepped down to gatorskins (just as good in punture proof) and as spares, Vittoria Zaffiro Pro Graphene 2.0 (haven't tried but reviews looked okay for the price).

Running the Rubino pro on the roadie and so far holding up well after 1500km

        • They are my go to commuter tyre, but I refuse to pay the price they're asking. I like Pro4 Endurance as well apart from the fact that they are a bitch to get on my rims.

  • +1

The 2 x Gatorskins (now expired) for this price represents much better value.

    • A much worse tire though. The best for puncture resistance but worse for everything else (wet weather grip and rolling resistance particuarly)

  • +2

Gone are the days when a pair of GP4000 costed $80 :(

  • -1

I think this might be a price increase as these were $74.99 2 weeks ago and the black sidewalls were $68.99 at bikebug just a few days ago which have now gone up to $79.98

    • Indeed. Past tense. We all got a bit complacent!

      • My guess is that it has to do with Pushys taking over and not giving the discounts bikebug used to have.

  • +1

Still on my 7 year old gp4000's and not 1 puncture
Gatorskins were more likely to puncture than them

    Swear by them

    • +1

Always buy conti's that have the vectran layer. Gators didn't have it. GP4000/5000's do.

  • +2

They are only $3 cheaper than 99bikes. Yeah, this one is delivered but most people got a 99bikes nearby so pretty much the same thing. The deal is only the free delivery really

    • Who goes to a store these days?

  • They had GP5000S TRs yesterday in 28C.
Bought 2 sets for me and my partner. Happy days.

    • +1

now the 28cs are the rare as hens teeth! Jealous

  • +2

$140.17 delivered at PBK with code AU14 today. New Michelin Power Cup supposedly rates better now.

    • +1

Can't edit but that was for a pair which is $70ea.

    • Good catch
