Hi, Dick smith have this for $59 Click And Connect..a better choice http://dicksmith.com.au/product/M7664/belkin-600va-6-way-ups…

DSE sold these postage free for $49 earlier this year. I have the unit and it works well, especially for the given price. However, these have never ever been $250. Retailers, please stop wildly inflating 'before' or RRP prices. It just makes you look ridiculous.

    • To be fair, the retailers don't inflate the RRP.

But they damn well shouldn't quote it in any advertising. It's completely misleading.
RRP is really an ancient, useless term and doesn't give any useful information on the actual worth of damn near anything.

After shipping, only 4 bucks cheaper than DSE, & irrelevant RRP has been reproduced in the title, so NEG to stop people getting misled and making a mindless purchase thinking they're saving $200 when the saving is only $4!

Yes a much better option than just a "surge protected powerboard" as you get the UPS function as well.
it is surprising how often my UPS clicks during the day as the mains supply voltage changes.

good price or not so good price?

  • Trickie dickie everyday price of $59 and on special once in a while of $49 free delivery wins over this one. I have one and it works well.

Huh? How do you think a UPS should work? They are not a generator, or designed to allow you to keep working during major outages of power. They are designed to guard against minor fluctuations in power, and in the event of major event loss of power, they operate off battery power while alerting you to power down your devices in the correct way.

Would be a pretty useless UPS that didn't alert you to a power failure, just run off batteries for 15-60 mins, then hard off all of your devices connected.

      • The beeping is annoying lol
I estimate mine runs for 2 mins on battery before it dies.
You really have to shutdown straight away.
And if it runs completely dead on battery and the power returns you have to press the on button before it will work again. Grrrrrrrrrr

        • if it only lasts for two minutes either your battery is stuffed OR you have too much power drain on the device for its capacity.

The capacity of UPS's is usually hyped too much. Yes, it can do 600VA, and it can do up to 30 minutes backup, but NOT BOTH AT THE SAME TIME.

At 600VA, running from internal battery (probably 12V), it has to be drawing AT LEAST 50 amps from the battery. Cars draw that much from their battery when they are cranking.

This entire device is about half the volume of a car battery, so the internal battery must have much lower capacity than a car battery. I'll bet the battery leads aren't nearly as thick as a car's battery leads, either.

Typical example: 7.2Ah battery, supplying 200VA, and the UPS circuitry has 80% efficiency. The maths says you will be drawing 20.8 amps from the internal battery, so you will get about eight minutes of power, according to the datasheet from this battery:
          http://www.jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=SB2486

At 600VA, three times the power, you should expect less than three minutes runtime - quite possibly significantly less.

You can turn off the beeping if you install the software on your PC and connect by USB. Under "UPS Control Settings" and "Disable audible alert"

Interesting that it beeps. Me think that 99.99999% UPS on the market do the same. Maybe it trying warn you about something. Hmmmm let me think, I got it, power failure…….I wouldnt ever guess that one…….

  • Huge brick

  • Never $250.00 rrp.

  • Officeworks, $59 + Free Delivery

Good service, easy to return for warranty replacement.

    • better yet, price match it at OW.

      • You are more likely to get one with a fresh battery too, if you price match at OW. The lead-acid batteries in UPS age when they aren't plugged in and on charge, often the reason for a sale is that the units are getting too old.
